I just realized that the pretentious guy at the bar who said "geopolitical ramifications of bioengineering," was asking "what do you think about super soldier programs?"
A couple episodes ago, in "Fear Itself", we learned the Scoobies' deepest fears. Oz's fear... was that he would lose control of his wolf, and hurt Willow.
Fun fact! The reason Beer Bad exists is because the writers were trying to write an episode with an anti drugs/alcohol message to get funding from a government program (I’m not sure if that was mandated by the network, or what). This is what they came up with. Cursed beer and guys turning into literal cavemen. The show did not get any money 😂. A lot of people did not like Beer Bad when it aired; personally, I think it’s a hoot, and the behind the scenes stuff just makes it funnier
It was mandated by the network and Joss didn't like them telling him what his episodes had to be about, so he made this ridiculous premise to stick it to the network. 😂
You either hate Beer Bad, or you have a great time. Personally, I think it's super fun. Willow played Parker so well, showed him he really ain't shit. Foamy. SMG really got a chance to show off her physical and comedic acting chops. Love it. Wild at Heart flips the heartbreak. Buffy has the "i can't breath Will, i feel like i can't breath." from Season 2, Willow in this ep. Both our girls really acted their asses off with those scenes.
"Don't you love me?" Very heartbroken Willow. Yeah, Oz loves Willow, hard. He just killed someone to protect her. But he cannot trust himself - and like he's consistently done before, he intends to tackle fixing himself on his own. Oz has never really asked for help. It seems like he's been on his own, no parental guidance or assistance, since we first met him. He's always been very self-contained. His actions, while unwise perhaps, were very much in character. I think Buffy inadvertently given him the idea for his "solution" when she said "you might have a roomue in there."
12:33 One of my favorite Willow moments. It shows how much she's grown as a person. Reminded of how she tricked Hyena Xander into thinking she believed he was back to normal just to get her to let him out.
I actually always liked “Beer Bad”. For me episodes like “The Witch”, “Where The Wild Things Are”, and “Doublemeat Palace” are the 3 worst episodes of Buffy in my opinion.
I actually really enjoy Beer Bad more than most I think. I liked the silliness. :P Wild at Heart then proceeds to rip my heart out. Alyson Hannigan is one of a handful of performers that, when she cries, I can't help but cry too. You REALLY feel it. And I could understand where Oz was coming from, too. He couldn't really help it entirely, though he DID make specific choices here that he didn't have to. Still, I wished he would have stayed. I love that they wait for just that MOMENT when he's in the van, to allow us to think he MIGHT decide to stay... and then he goes. Heartbreaking and beautifully executed.
Such a good point about the music in older shows. I have discovered so much great music through Buffy and Angel (and Supernatural) - not so much with Charmed as it's less my vibe - but I do love the live sets that they feature. The fact that Buffy heavily featured up and coming bands was great.
Knowing the backstory behind Beer Bad has really improved my appreciation for the episode. The creators tried, unsuccessfully, to get funding for making what is essentially an anti-drinking PSA. It was unsuccessful as the evaluators hated the final product. Knowing all this, the episode becomes a tragically absurd, comic failure. Everyone hates it, it fails on every level, and that’s camp to me.
Happy "Buffy, the Vampire Slayer" Thursday evening with Cody and Sergio! 😊 Episode 4x05: Buffy becomes under the influence of supernatural alcohol. Episode 4x06: Our favorite platinum blond vampire is back. And it's sadly the end of Willow and Oz. Alyson Hannigan gives a great performance as Willow in this episode. Especially during the last half. Looking forward to the next reactions. 😊
Oz was supposed to have a season long arc dealing with his issues and Veruca, but due to Seth Green needing time to film Austin Powers 2 they had to wrap it up quickly.
Beer Bad is widely considered the worst episode of Buffy, but hey, its not boring! It was originally supposed to be funded by an anti-drug government organization, but they backed out when they saw how ridiculous the episode was! I still enjoy the episode because I can’t believe they actually made it 😂
Beer Bad gets a lot of hate. While it's not a great episode, it certainly isn't the worst. It's not even the worst episode of this season, although it was written by the same person.
Actually I think they are two different locations. The cavemen students ran from the bar to the (what looks like a cafe) place where Willow was confronting Parker.
I believe that the government at the time was allowing TV shows to write expenses off if they did a PSA on the dangers of drinking/drugs. That’s why this episode exists. However, when reviewed by the board, it was decided that the episode was too obscure and that it wasn’t reflective or accurate enough to present the message that drinking/drugs were bad, so the show didn’t get the financial bonuses. A far better and more realistic depiction of addiction (if on-the-nose) would ironically come much later in the seasons, having already taken root in season three.
YES LET'S GOOOO BUFFY THURSDAY! I have been WAITING for this! Two great episodes; my friends and I still quote Beer Bad: "foamy!" (a lot of people say this is the worst episode of the season or even of the whole show but I love the silliness of Cave Slayer)
It was always the case with Oz that once the Wolf had taken over he had absolutely no control whatsoever over anything. Oz had best intentions trying to keep Veruca from doing any more harm, but of course this compromises himself. The only mistake he makes here is not telling Buffy what had happened, it could have been all so different. The ending was a big blow, as Willow and Oz were without doubt the nicest couple ever in The Buffyverse, but as with every relationship in this show it's never easy, there is always pain in it. By leaving Oz is showing his total love for Willow, as he knows things will always be that way once he is under the influence of The Wolf. A sad episode for fans, but once again adding the the drama of the show. It is because Oz loves Willow so much he knows he has to leave because he has no control over the wolf, and knows that in the long term he will only harm Willow. It's a shame to see Oz go too cos of his hair, cos Seth Green had the greatest hair in the show from Red to Blonde to Black etc, but it could never be as good as his hair when he was in the X-Files episode Deep Throat, now that was hair.
@@invadertifxiii That's right but as he said the Wolf was always in him, and he had no real control over it, as was shown then as he was turning at that point.
That was certainly... A couple of episodes that exists in the world. xD I mean, Oz just breaks my heart here. Ugh, c'mon man, you were the one good guy!
So beer bad was an anti-alcohol psa episode trying to get some of that gov’t funding…except the gov’t ended up not liking it and not funding it. Lol Sarah Z has a really great video about it.
Buffy’s opening fight scene! 🔥 Xander’s fake ID 😂 Willow’s made up bar story 💀 Kal Penn! Not the pretentious college guys getting Buffy drunk. Curious about this Veruca singer. I wonder if she’s also a werewolf or supernatural being & Oz can sense it in her 🤔 Yes Willow confronting Parker. Them turning into literal cavemen is wild 😂 Cavewoman Buffy was so funny. Not Parker putting the moves on Willow! She’s too smart for that 🙌🏼 Cave slayer Buffy. Giles giving the description of cavewoman Buffy to the student 😂 Buffy to the rescue! Yes Buffy knocking out Parker repeatedly! 🙌🏼 I really needed that. Spike is back & captured! Not making fun of Giles for being old. Loved up Willow/Oz 💚 Buffy scoring better than Willow? Go Buffy! Such an awkward table scene. I knew it! Oh no not her trying it on with Oz knowing he has a GF 🤦🏽♀️ OMG Poor Willow 💔 Oz raising his voice 😳 Nothing like a witch scorned 🤯 Oz vs Veruca fight! “My whole life I’ve never loved anything else.” My favorite couple. The emotional whiplash I have after this. My heart is shattered 😭💔 Excuse me while I ugly cry myself to sleep. Wonderful reactions as always 🖤
Oz has always been the cool guy. But from a couple of comments Willow makes it seems he's always cool, always in control, which results in him sometimes being emotionally unavailable. And that need to always be in control is not healthy. We see him lose his temper a couple of times, here with Veruca and in Season 3 when the mayor has kidnapped Willow. So it's ironic that he's the one to be a werewolf, which involves completely losing control. He seems to be deeply ashamed of his wolf side, to a point where he doesn't ask for help when he needs it. Why does he lock himself up all alone when Giles is completely at loose ends? Why doesn't he tell anyone about Veruca and ask for help? And where the heck is he off to, when what better place would there be to search for a cure than Sunnydale, with friends who know what's going on, and Giles available to research possible cures?
Not even a spoiler has nothing to do with show but "willow" and "wesley " are married with children and went through alot. Love it. I was waiting for this willow oz arc cause then i get my next fave character as an introvert soon. We all ache for willow Edit... glad yall love xander now he's been my guy and spike since season 1 I'm not an angel girl both shows ha and side note go one tree hill for drama and music
I literally CANNOT watch episode 6. Once was enough to destroy me and I refuse to do it again. I really tried to watch it here with you guys, but I managed half before my brain shut that down. Urgh I really loved Willow/Oz. And I really loved Oz as a character. This sucks.
Beer bad: some say it sounds like anti-drinking propaganda and thus find it annoying. To me, however, it seems like a parody of anti-drinking propaganda. I tend to just laugh at it, roll my eyes, and move on.
Beer Bad gets such a bad rep. It's better than every S01 episode besides Prophecy Girl and better than every S02 episode that doesn't contain Spike or Dru. It just looks bad in comparison to this season, which is fully mature in all of the characters positions, and it looks bad compared to one of the greatest runs on the show coming up shortly.
Seth Green needed time off to go film Austin Powers and Joss Whedon decided to completely ruin him. The Oz we know wouldn't have cheated. I feel like they could have expressed the "wolf inside" without that storyline. I'm conflicted, because I love Willow's progression after this (won't spoil but IYKYK) but Oz could have easily gone on that self-discovery after accidentally hurting his friends or even acidentally unaliving someone. Veruca was completely unnecessary. And I won't comment on Beer Bad because even though it has a few laughs, it's definitely one of the worst episodes of the series.
The weird thing about The Buffverse Fandom, is that if you say really don't like an episode they tend to come for you in droves, as this show has 144 episodes they can't all be brilliant. I absolutely adore the show but this is possibly the worse episode of BTVS ever, up there with Go Fish, Bad Eggs and couple more from this Season, (and a few episodes from S6 and S7 don't want to mention names cos of spoilers). Though very last bit when Parker gets hit over the head again with the club was very funny. There were so many fantastic episodes of this show over the seven series, but this really isn't one of them, some fans say on re-watch it's better, I don't agree, it was a real filler of an episode thankfully lost in one the the greatest TV shows of all time. This is actually the lowest ranked episode on IMDB of all 144 episodes, and tops most lists as the worst episode of the show. Please don't @ me take it up with IMDB.
I don't think anyone is revisiting this episode that much. Nobody is saying that this is not one of the worst epidoes of the show. They are just saying they are enjoying the episode after re watch. Not me, tho. But i don't think anyone is saying this a great episode.
Yes Beer Bad was a blatant attempt by the producers to get full government money for an episode and the network to get a tax credit. A money grab that failed. Also there were morality groups pressuring the networks for wholesome programming and to scale back offensive themes. Buffy was a target and the WB was small and pitiful at fighting back. The network nixed many stories and character arcs because they caved into morality groups threatening boycotts. Buffy is an amazing show but if the network executives had some more courage , the results would have become the stuff of legends. Still, get ready for the typical Buffy excitement to get into gear. No comment on the breakup of Willow and Oz. Still hurts . Viruca and Parker are in the BTVS Hall Of Shame. The Master, The Mayor, Mr. Trick…. None caused as much damage over a season like Viruca and Parker did in a couple of episodes.
Beer Bad is for sure the worst episode of Buffy. I believe I heard this was one of those episodes of tv that the government required as anti-drug/alcohol propaganda? Someone else could probably speak to this better than I lol
4x05 An episode that is harder to watch because, to me, it feels like its telling the audience directly not to drink. followed by 4x06 One of the best episodes in the series not written by the creator.
