Buffy the Vampire Slayer Talk || s3e08 "Lovers Walk"

- Cordelia falls down and is impaled - *Alley gasps* - Cordelia loses consciousness - *Alley begins to hyperventilate* - Camera cuts to funeral - *Alley prepares to burn the world down* - Camera reveals it's a fake-out - *Alley: THIS F***ING SHOW!!!!* *Me: Thereeeeeeeeeeee it is* 😅😅😅

Before the start of the episode: Alley: "So I'm hoping Willow and Xander will figure that out and stop," Me: Oof. Alley: "..Before someone gets hurt" Me: *OOF*

Spike with Joyce. Alley: "I kind of love this?!" Same girl, same. They have such an odd, but loveable friendship(?).

We stan Cordelia Chase in this house 🙌

And that fake out is where people who initially disliked Cordi realized how much she has grown on them.

I totally lost it at "If Cordelia dies, I sue" XD

Aaahh, the funeral scene, it never gets old. It's gotten every reactor I've seen so far.

That stunt with Spike’s hand almost got James Marsters into trouble. He wanted Spike to become a recurring character so he agreed to do the stunt with the fire by saying he’d done similar stunts before (he hadn’t). His idea was that he’d impress the show runners by his willingness to do the stunt. The flame effect is produced by having a fuel source put on top of a flame retardent gel. The gel protects the skin from the flame long enough to get the shot after which the flame is quickly put out. Unfortunately James Marsters let the flame go too long and it burnt down through the flame retardant gel. As a result his hand got quite badly burnt. Luckily though this stunt was the last shot to be completed on the episode so he faked like everything was fine and after the end of shooting he rushed himself to hospital to get it treated. It took him years to confess that this had happened to anyone.

Cordelia just breaks my heart in this. She's so happy. She turned her world and social order upside-down to be with Xander and never showed any sign of regretting or second-guessing it. Then he does that. Can't help but hate him at least a bit for that. I don't care how young he is.

Realize that Dru would consider torture romantic.

"Dru and I killed a homeless man on this bench", the things that Spike makes me go awwww for is not a good list.

"Stop… before someone gets hurt" …Well no. That's not the show. This is the Joss Whedon & Friends making-everyone-miserable show. =) This is definitely one of my all-time favorite episodes. Absolutely love it. All the drama… And also Spike. He's really awesome in this episode, a really interesting kind of three-dimensional villain character. I mean, he's evil, but he's also like… Just been dumped. Very, very relatable =) And his friendly relationship with Joyce just kills me every time. Favorite quote: "Have you ever SEEN a chaos daemon? All slime and antlers!"

Who needs an intervention with your watcher and friends when you have Spike that can just come in and point everything out in one episode 😂

At the end of 1x08 the Scoobies all joke about being doomed in terms of relationships, and now in 3x08 all their relationships get wrecked. (While Spike ends up hopeful about his broken relationship with Dru.)

I enjoy all of your Buffy reactions, but this was one of the best yet. Your face when Cordelia '"died" was priceless. That's why we all watch you. I love that all Spike had to do in order to hurt Buffy and Angel was to speak the truth, then let them do the rest.

One of the best of the season, Spike is such a good catalyst with his humor, his threat and his insights. You didn't mention his relationship with Joyce, I love them together, her talking to him like he's a regular person, so funny. Yes sorry about the fake death scene, that's Joss messing with your head but it also lets viewers realize how they feel about Cordelia, how their feelings towards her may have evolved since the beginning of the show.

Can we all take a minute to appreciate how daring Spike is? Most vampires hide from the sun and would just wait until the night to drive out of town but not him, Spike blacked out the windows of his car so he can drive in daylight, even if it means he can only see the road through a tiny hole and getting to close to said hole could potentially burn or even kill him, other vampires are scared of the sun, Spike treats it like a small inconvenient. Also going into The Slayer's home and hanging out with her mom for long enough to share his relationship problems over hot chocolate? Makes you realize what makes him so dangerous as an enemy, he has no fear, it's no wonder he managed to kill two Slayers.

So when Charisma Carpenter was a child, she had a very similar injury. She was playing in her backyard when her family was building a pool, and since there was no fence around it, she fell in and impaled herself on a rebar pipe that was sticking out.

A little "under the radar" continuity, the shop where Spike killed the woman was the same "boogity boogity store" that Dru killed the previous owner of after selling Jenny Calender an Orb of Thessela.

Such a good episode. This is possibly the moment when Spike became my favourite.

I love watching this one for the reactions to the fake-out Cordelia death. Everyone responds the same way, and it's so funny but also makes me feel that temporary heartbreak all over again. Joss Whedon is a bad man.

Flashback. Your reaction to seeing Spike come back reminded me of how it felt watching these episodes when they premiered. By "Lovers Walk" I'd gotten passed wondering if we'd ever see him or Dru again. It was just so great and strange that he came back. For an hour, life was GOOD. Also, the trolling in this episode is so mean, XD

Buffy is a brilliant show -- relentlessly so -- but there are a handful of episodes which, for me, stand head and shoulders above even that already high standard. This is one of those episodes.

With the injury and then the funeral... Subversion aside, it really felt like seeing Willow and Xander kiss killed Cordelia. That's such a beautiful example of showing instead of telling us how she was feeling.

Oh thing that always blows me away is Willow's reference to a TV show that's currently still airing, but even then was 'old'.

one of spikes best quotes “I may be loves bicth but at least am man enough to admit it” saying that to angel. The angel spike banter. Ya this episode was fun with drunk dru dumbed spike but also destroys people. Spike and Joyce get along weird old world isn’t it.

Every episode of season 3 is so good.

Not so fun fact: Cordie’s fall was inspired by an accident the actress playing her, Charisma, suffered when she was little.

Fun fact about that "Spike wakes up on fire" gag, James Marsters got **serious** burns from that stunt because he ad-libbed that dreamy, groggy, "wait a second am I on fire" look because he thought it'd be funnier. Originally he was supposed to catch fire and RUN IMMEDIATELY, because the solution they covered his hand in would only last for so long. He didn't tell anyone on set and discreetly took himself to the ER before anyone noticed

So happy to see the QOTD is back. The cat bell every time Angel is in screen is the best thing ever.

When I saw this show up in my recommended and saw the episode title is flat out yelled, "IT'S HERE!" I love this episode so much and Spike is just great. My thoughts on Spike this episode: "Spike is terrible! I still love Spike!"

Love the Willow/Spike scene, he can't actually hurt her because he needs her to do the spell. I also love his teasing Angel while standing behind Joyce.

The whole "sarcastic voice" thing is one of my go to quotes.

I don't know if someone has already commented this here, or if you even remember, but since this episode brought back Spike and almost killed Cordelia, I think you, and everybody that haven't seen Supernatural, should check Season 7, Episode 5 (Shut Up, Dr. Phil) for a little surprise.

13:51 - A standout reaction moment (in a standout episode (in a standout season.)) My first viewings of the Buffyverse were out of order (I caught later events in syndication and then got into it) so I never had the experience of falling for this fake-out, but it's a lot of fun to watch people react to it.

I cried immediately, no hesitation but much disbelief when they cut to the funeral. That look everyone does happened too, where you look into the distance like you're bargaining or calculating how to undo this, why would they do this, wait would they do this? I mean they did it to Jenny but nooo... and then Buffy "So Cordelia's gonna be okay?" Like you think Cordelia's death scene rips you out of the moment until you realize you are processing a sudden death in like a real way, but whew for Buff

This is one of my fave eps of the entire series. Love drunk Spike so much!

Boring facts time In case you were on the 2400 scale like I was: Buffy made like a 2150. Willow I guess made at least a 740×2=1480, which is a 2220. I made an 1860 so yeah that's bananas to me.

I must have seen this episode 20 times at least but never realized how funny Willow's line " Don't move Cordy" was until I watched this edit

So much to say about this episode. Its amazing. Just the title. Lovers walk. Its everywhere. Like how lovers walk in on Xander and Willow. Or how Spike actually comes in on a car, but then goes for a Walk with Buffy and Angel.. And after that he is back to the man he was. A lover. For Dru. Also a handfull of lovers walking away from their supposed s.o. And all that is hardly scraping the surface of the actual plot. So much awesome.

Dru left Spike; Buffy leaves Angel; Oz pushes Willow away; Cordelia pushes Xander away. The title of the episode is incredibly apt: this is the one where the lovers walk.
