BUTTON MAGNETS are the ultimate hack for making a bugnet fit any design of tarp shelter. I carry about 8 quarter sized magnets and it doesn't matter what set up I choose, I always have the maximum amount of room inside.

Jess, great video and demonstration. I've been using a similar setup for years. I don't know the maker of my original bug tent inner, but I recently bought a new one from ONE TIGRIS that has three doors ($65 USD March 2024). Doors at both ends and a large middle door like the one you use. Great inner bug tent with a bathtub floor. Keep making these great videos.

For those of us that are to old to sleep on the ground anymore the GI bug net work's well with a hammock if you cut holes for suspending the hammock. This is a great set up so you can sit in the hammock folded in half and still have bug cover. Great video Jess!

I recently got some kind of US bug net tent, it already has holes in it for a ridge line. It’s 17 ounces, should pair well with Aquaquest tarp and my hammock.

Yep. This is my setup too. I had been practicing survival/wild camping/bush craft skills in my back yard for a year.. camped out nearly every weekend from winter ‘22 to winter ‘23, and finally made my first real bare bones camping trip July 4 weekend at a state park… with no amenities except a few porta units. Lots of trout stocked streams tho 😁 THIS method is exactly what I decided to pursue as Spring ‘23 rolled in. I have a RedCamp 10X12 camo tarp, which I exclusively use self supported by walking poles (or sticks from the woods), and I have an enclosed bug net/bathtub from Onetigris. I like my screen, as it has only one angled side to match match A-frame tent slope, but the entry side is flat faced with 3 zippers (2 bottom/one center). When I pitch my A-frame, the entry side of the bug screen tent is open space for gear, so I’m not squeezing up against the tarp as you need to with the A-frame bug screen. While the dimensions are close, I can still obtain decent weather protection. One option I have is to simply roll the top of the screen down a few inches, and I can pick up a bit more spread width/protection. The setup can easily be modified by sticking up one half of the A-frame into a semi/quasi bakers shed! I can also do a fully enclosed “hexamid” based on Papahiker”s design (hiking tarp tent RU-vidr from Netherlands). Unfortunately I’m at about 4.5 lbs for both, but that includes aluminum stakes and guy lines. This set up combined with a red LED head lamp has kept me bug free all summer! Good video!

I had one of those USGI bug nets issued to me back in the day, but it was most often left behind. I think I only ever used it one time, rigging it up on a make shift frame over a cot. I never used it in the old pup tent and never saw anyone else use it that way. Saw them used a few times as improvised screen doors on the big GP Medium tents.

Onewind has come out with a tarp bugnet that is awesome. You can fly an A frame, and it goes around the edges to make a 12 ft screen room. It also has double zippers on each end to run a hammock thru.

Jess, down here in Texas a bugnet is a necessity when camping under a tarp! My primary shelter is a Warbonnet Blackbird XLC hammock, but when I'm using just a tarp a USGI cot bug net works well; all I needed to do was add additional ties to it.

👍👍👍 .. Cool .. and bug-free 😊. Hi Jess .. Nice seeing you again. Yep, bugs are my bone of contention with ticks being first on the list. Strangely, this Summer here in the Northern Schweiz, 'bugs' (except for the perennial Lyme-carrying Ticks 😖) .. bugs such as mosquitos, biting flies and midges have been conspicuous by their absence. Another reason for me being a colder-weather person. Another good share .. thanks. Take care .. Tommy

Long time no see Endurance Room. The way I camp here in Florida, bug net with a tarp, usually during the cooler months, along the coast, on the little Islands that are called Keys and in the forest.. As for the military bug net, while serving in the Marine Corp's I would as some others Marines, set up the bug net with the shelter half over the rear part then the extra rain poncho I always carried over what would be the roof, all set up inside of a bush for camouflage.. That is when we had some time to set up a bivouac. Like you, I can dig both, but these days I would lay down a ground sheet for the Military bug net shelter. Nice set ups, I always enjoy your videos, keep'em coming.

Hi jess...long time subscriber here... I'd like your opinion on my set up .. I use a free soldier hammock/ tent ..with an aquaquest 10x10 tarp.. the hammock used on the ground has a built in,zipped entry bug net with waterproof base .it makes a very low profile set up , plus it can also be used as a hammock if an off the ground configuration is required ... ..obviously my tarp is heavy duty and I didn't want it to be super light , I only wanted this set up instead of a tent due to the huge versatility and ability to have a very large admin area when not inside the bug net ... I know you're one of the world's leading experts on camp craft ,Bush craft and minimalist camping techniques... I look forward to your reply if you have time ,.... another excellent video btw.. Thanks.

3 lbs is a bit heavy for a trap setup, especially without a ground sheet. There are many tent options, even affordable one, that are under 3lbs these days. Generally, the benefit of going trap is the weight savings, but 3 lbs is about my max for a tent setup.

💪...Finally dude... 🏕 THIS is tha video I was looking for to make people understand how to shelter with tent chances and if we incorporate a hammock we can switch frome one system to the other all along the trial with no much weight to support. And also if we carry 3 separated peaces of gear (tarp, bug net attached to tha floor, and a hamok) we can replace one peace individually from the rest, in case of one getting broken... PD: By tha way maybe next video could be to add a hamok to the combo and show to people tha chances we have to switch frome one sistem to the other... or even using all together at the same time. That would be a hamok under the tarp, and into the bug net, and show how much that combo can weight. Just in case that "funky hikes" wonders about...😅😂🤣
