I don't understand why you would want to spend $500+ on a printer when you could have something way better for a lot cheaper like this? This thing is awesome!

bkpickell if the whole purpose of having a 3d printer is to create/engineer things, then why would they want 3d printers if they aren engineers? They're just lazy in my opinion.

Now that is probably the most interesting printer anyone has made. How awesome is it that you could just fold it up and take it with you like it was a briefcase? Mind = blown!

I didn't have any other those cool tools for most of modding career, so now that I do I love using them and it is hard to go back. Keep in mind that you don't have to use a case just like the one I use - be creative and stuff your project in whatever you think would be cool. We'll keep your input in mind - thanks for sharing!

i want to see a helmet with a HUD that is hooked up to some gloves that recognizes what you are holding then showing you what it is on your HUD. example you pick up a pop can and it can tell you how much soda is left. and since this is a definite halo build, if you pick up a gun it will tell you what model of gun you are holding and how much ammo is left in the mag. i want to see how good you really are Ben. DO YOU EXCEPT THIS CHALLENGE?

It will fit in a overhead bin on an airplane very nicely, but my guess is short time after showing up on an airport with this briefcase you will be on an airplane down to Guantanamo Bay :) Very talented you are indeed. I don't know who you are but you're that kinda guy that could spontaneously innovate very useful stuff, and get rich doing what you love doing :) Great video btw.

An idea... take 2 photographic equipment hard cases (ex., Xit XTHC40 or similar)with desired dimensions , cut matching openings in the bottoms to allow print bed pass-thru (could chamfer the opening corners for strength), then attach them bottom to bottom (pop rivets, or such). Easy peasy... ;-). Might have to extend "feet" a bit on standing edge to get lids to lie flat on "butterfly" style opening. The cases are relatively inexpensive (all metal will be more, of course), and found on Amazon. That's my plan, anyway...

You work on the X-Y plane, Z axis gives you the layers. So moving forward/backward is the same as up/down on the 2D X-Y plane you would have on a paper graph. It is all a manner of perspective.

hey Ben just some info for you to share you already know that imperal thread are rea as (number of teeth - per - inch e.g. ) 15 TPI however metric is read a little differnt its read as metric bolt size 10mm AKA M10 then tread pitch 1 or 1.5 so in metric for e.g. 10 x 0.5 / 10 x 1 is classed as a fine thread where as 10 x 1.5 /10 x 2 is a corse thread so 10x2 is 10mm bolt with a thread pitch of 2mm per thread. the thread pitch is how wide the thread is from 1 peak to the next have fun CYA
@warywolfen
@warywolfen 11 лет назад
My guess is it doesn't matter very much. In the U.S, there's a better selection of components with SAE threads, but metric parts are readily available, too. Outside the U.S, I'd guess that metric might be best.
@improprietary1
@improprietary1 12 лет назад
If you use threaded rods for movement is it easier on yourself to use metric threaded rods or imperial threaded rods?

in engineering terms, an area is depicted by the use of mm^2, for ben's purpose, he would have been better to go 200^2mm to depict that he meant it as a single measurement. or just use notation and go 40x10^3

No, 200mm^2 = √200 * √200 Unless your talking about 200mm * 2 which would be 400mm. If he was talking in terms of dimensions he would've said '200 by 200', area is '200 squared' as in the total area is 200mm

200mm by 200mm is 200mm^2, what you mean to say is 200mm by 200mm by 200mm or 200mm^3, which isnt the dimensions this is made with, its 200m^2 width and depth and 100mm height
