Not only it's overly verbose, but it throws unnecessary stuff at you all at once instead of when it's relevant, which makes understanding anything that much harder. I'm also pretty sure the font is not dyslexia-friendly and that the plural of stratum is strata, not stratums...

Unironically, the MOMENT a fight ends, it's like the Devs went "Glad that's over with.", 0 fanfare, fill the screen with another big white rectangle with text on it. Death animations? An enemy fading out at least? Maybe a tune to play for your success? No way! That would eat into valuable TEXT BOXES time!

My favorite part of the game was definitely the tutorial, such a good example of "tell, don't show" or something.

Hey! Dev here! Thank you so much for trying out Stratum Descent! I love your content in general and am excited to see that you tried my game out! Glad you like the general idea of it all. The numbers do get wild and so do the enemies, the first few strata are def easy mode once the understanding of slotting kicks in. Def some things I am fixing up for early access launch. I have actually been working on removing as much of the text boxes as I can. I know that will move it from reading simulator to card game genre but it's a risk I am willing to take. Again thanks!

The tutorial has 15 steps with huge text boxes lol. There has to be better ways of doing it

Everyone is talking about the death-by-1000-textbox tutorial, and I agree. But to me the thing that stands out is how boring and samey all the cards look. In a card based game, I think it's a huge miss to have all the cards just seem so sterile and empty. Are they placeholders, or what?

The MOMENT a fight ends, BAM! Textbox! No animation for an enemy dying or at least fading away, no graphical congratulations, they're just so Desperate to cram more words on the screen that they Need to dominate the space with an empty white rectangle with black text in a difficult font, as soon as possible. For those of us who enjoy dark mode when using stuff, it's like being flash banged, except without any bang because there's no excitement to it.

the barbarian just gave you 30 bleed every time you used a card for attack. the cards you had didnt even matter.

my best guess for the 30 bleed per attack is that when you got a relic you got a duplicate of the barbarian but it did not show it.

I think something similar, otherwise there is something in the card that counted as a second attack when it wasn't supposed to.

The relic might work as an additional attack rather than enhancing the effects of played cards, resulting in double the amount of bleed.

Seems expose is adding 25% bleed PER stack of expose instead of flat 25% + the added damage = to the expose number. Hard to imagine that's intentional but easy to imagine how easy it would be to accidentally code it that way.

I love wordy games, that give all the details and information clearly... But Good Lord. So much of this can deleted, or at least moved to dilute it down. We don't need to be told what we keep at the end of a run before we've even started. A simple example of providing dense information without it being intrusive: Instead of telling us how to get relics, just let us see the empty relic list. Then, when we get one from a drop, oh hey, we know we get them from drops. Then, if they're specific to enemies, as it claims, give us a bestiary that lists each mob we've defeated's number of available drops, and if we have them. Alternatively, have the empty relic list instead show greyed out versions of some of the one's we haven't got, with tooltips when we mouse over them, and the list of un-acquired ones that are shown expands as we unlock more, or maybe when we reach new areas or something. None of that needs a tutorial box, and it actually provides MORE information. And if a dev sees this: no, we do not need a paragraph of text telling us there's a bestiary, and then another one for every single listed piece of information. We need one button in a menu clearly labeled "Bestiary", and provided we know what that word means, we'll know what it is. And if we Don't know, we can click on it and see. And at the very least, add some visual flair to it. Don't just slap in a giant white rectangle with black text over the entir screen. You could put some nice little scroll or something in the top right corner of the screen, show the quest name and description, and a little check mark, then it expands a little and scrolls down to reveal your new quests. Then give us a little animation of our reward flowing into it's relevant resource location. And give us a tiny button, maybe a little scroll with a Q on it or something, that we can click to bring that list up again. And No, we don't need a paragraph of text to tell us the button exists. If you REALLY want to signpost it's existence, a little bouncing arrow works wonders.

I REALLY hope this is just an alpha build, that Should Not have been released to the public. Because this looks like something made to test the functionality, not to in any way present the content to a potential audience.

I def agree (dev here). I have been working on either condensing down or just out right removing a lot of the tutorials. The first big pass should be up soon, and I will see how it goes from there.

12:59 How broken would warrior be, cards have 0-7 base attack but warrior adds a whopping 18, and since barbarian procs twice, warrior might do 36 + card atk per attack
