I am exstatic..my NANO vanished long ago. I FOUND IT!!! it had slipped between the bed and wall in my van. Never thought to look there. Think I will go out later today and work on my canteen kits... great ideas. Thank you. And maybe cut some little NANO wood and fill my "wood bag"

I don't like coffee, so I build mine with tea bags and packets of real lemon that I find at Dollar Tree / Walmart. I've also put in packages of dry soup mix and instant potatoes -- just depends on what I have handy when I'm restocking the food /drink part. I, too, put in electrolyte packets (I personally prefer the Pedialyte ones over the Gatorade ones, whatever a person likes is what they should use) and Hydration booster packets. You could also add in a small packet of beef jerky, so you'd have a meat source to add to a quick soup / stew / etc. I love the silicone collapsing cups, and the combo fork / spoon is extremely handy as well. You could also just put in a cheap fork and spoon that you pick up at Dollar Tree or a thrift shop. The only thing missing, to me, is a Sawyer Mini or a Lifestraw. For me, that is vitally important in EVERY kit I build. I do have Lifestraws, but my preference is the Sawyer Minis because of their versatility and the sheer amount of water they can filter vs the Lifestraw, for just a small amount more in cost. Overall, I really liked your video, this is the first time I've come across your channel and I already subscribed 😉 I like that you weren't using your platform to plug the 'latest and greatest ' trendy or expensive gear. To me, it's all about getting the basics in the kit, improvising when needed, and keeping it affordable. Too many You-Tubers are so caught up in showing off all the cool gear that their Sponsors send them, that they don't think about the people who are just starting out building their kits, or who are living on tight budgets. Your tip about scrounging condiment / sugar packets at restaurants is a good one, another great source is convenience stores. There you can also pick up salt / pepper / mustard / mayo / salsa / etc packets. Don't grab a handful, just a couple of things whenever you go in is all it takes to quickly build up your reserves. Dollar Tree sells small containers with locking lids just barely longer than a Bic lighter. If you're going to be putting anything in the kit that is wet (ketchup, mayo, salsa, etc), I highly recommend keeping it in one of these. By the way, I use those containers in every one of my Fire Kits -- I fill them with the small box matches, using glue dots to affix the striker panels to the inside of the lid. I also add in a Bic lighter and a fire cube. This is actually what I put in my Water Kits as well, simply because I want my Kit to be one that will provide the Basics (along with my EDC) should I get separated from my main kit for some reason and can't get back to it right away in a Survival situation. After all, it's all fun and games -- until suddenly it isn't. 😊 Keep up the good work, I'll be checking out more of your videos as soon as I can get the chance 😊

I got my Rothco bag today this is the perfect size able to hold my usgi canteen cup cook set with Nalgene canteen water purification tablets,firestarters, ferro rod,opinell knife, small container of olive oil, coffee,creamer,a small amount of first aid items,,esbit stove,salt & pepper and sweetener small wood saw some fat wood and could easily put some food items to get you bye for a couple of days. Your videos are great this and the trekker firesteel are among my favorites.

Firebox makes great stoves. As you say on the pricey side. I use an Army canteen Cup (old L handle), Nalgene Oasis Canteen, Old Canteen Store lid and Canteen Store stove. Then I like to use a Trangia burner when I have space. When I have the space I will add a bottle with a nesting cup. Then my canteen is my cook pot. And the other cup I drink from. And the bottle is stainless so I can put it in a fire if needed.

I did a segment on my Canteen bundled cooking system not too many years ago. For my system though I actually use a metal canteen, which doubled as a container to boil water, making it multifunctional, a canteen cup and lid, and military canteen bag with MOLLE ,but I didn't use your stove for it (i have a couple similar to yours), I used a canteen stove which could use wood, fuel cubes, or alcohol as a fuel source. The end result actually weighs less than what you are using, and they all bundled together with the canteen fitting inside the cup and cup in the stove and all in the snug fitting military canteen bag. Something to look into, as this setup allows you to boil more drinking water at a time, and it is lighter, and smaller form factor so more packability.

Pathfinder has the best canteen kit/setup. That’s the one I have and definitely recommend. The only thing about plastic bottles is the lowering of testosterone levels. It’s lighter but anytime I can not drink from plastic bottles I try. Well done on the kit!!!👍🏼💯

Hes got a close parallel to the pathfinder kit; honestly thought thats what it was till he brought it closer😅 funny that he says the rothco cup was cheaper than surplus... pretty sure rothco is contracted to make those for the military.

The weather in this country is too changeable for smaller kits, I use a regular sized rucksack so I can put clothing layers in there and change with the weather. Do have a canteen type kit in the rucksack, having most of what you need in one small bag cuts down on unpacking/repacking time when the weather isn't so good and you want to get moving to keep your body heat. I agree on the plastic canteen thing, if you have a metal pot you are going to boil water in that, that's what it's designed for. Had a water filter break when I was out for a week, used my pot to boil water. By the time you've drank your coffee the water has cooled, done.

I like Cantrell, but I don't buy his PF products (can't afford them, although I love how compact his cooking kit is). I do, however, learn a lot from him, and get good ideas on what to look for in Survival gear. I skimp on some things, others I won't. For example, I buy Sawyer Minis, instead of going for the purification tablets and iodine. Iodine tablets are needed for the Thyroid, but I'm referring to the liquid here. My Sawyer Mini can be used instantly with any water source, and doesn't add a weird taste to my water. It also filters a LOT of water before having to be replaced. Even though it does take up a bit of room in my Kits, I make it work -- it's a non-negotiable item for me. Anyway, I agree with you all -- keeping things budget friendly is needed more than ever, especially now.

Remember to keep your "empty" Bic (or other brand) lighters. They are a steel and flint. All you need to do to use them is to gently remove the metal flame protector and it will expose the spark area. I replace the metal guard when not in use, but that is more preference than necessity. Great video as always. Great little stove used in the review.

I’ve heard that the flints from Bics also make good replacements for the ones in a Zippo and last a bit longer than the Zippo branded ones if they are your thing

I couldn't agree more about the plastic canteen. I rarely find myself in a situation where I absolutely HAVE TO boil water because I didn't pack in enough with my kit! One of my water bottles happens to be a regular sized Nalgene S/S bottle and yes, I DO carry a fish mouth spreader. In all fairness most of my trips are over-nighters anyway. I appreciate your candor and the fact that you DO NOT espouse the notion that unless you are using the most expensive items in the world that there is something wrong with how you're doing it! That mentality truly pisses me off and gives newbies the totally wrong impression of our hobby! IN all fairness my first good hatchet was a Husqvarna because of it's value. I eventually ended up collecting all five of their small hand axes. The most expensive axe I own is a Council Tool Velvicut Saddle Axe which quite frankly I have trepidations over taking it into the woods lest I damage such a beautiful tool! I have gotten much useful info from you and several YT'ers over the past several years and I depend on content providers honesty to help me make intelligent decisions. Thank you again for that! First of your videos to cross my feed! Glad it did! Your ideal for a canteen kit is neigh identical to ours!!! Even the Opie saw!!! Now, we have alc (HEET) stoves (tuna cans with rim holes) instead of debris stoves, as we rarely use them, as a few greenwood limbs and stones can make a quick and easy one meal fire pit. So, clearly kindred spirits and minds for skills and kit building, and now subscribers! Thanks for offerings!

This was the first of your videos I have seen when it popped up in the suggestion box. I did a double-take when you pulled out the sachet of KOPIKO. I had never seen that brand in the US. This is a common brand in supermarkets here in SE Asia where I relocated to test out early retirement eleven (11) years ago. Yeah, I am still here and loving every minute of it. A look at the background was a taste of home in the springtime, it could well have been the woodlot on my hobby farm in northern New England. You have constructed a great kit that is functional without unneeded extras to weigh you down. A quick look at your channel prompts me to hit the subscribe button. I am still on the learning curve on this side of the big pond as I have replaced wither ice storms with periodic earthquakes, monsoon season, and an occasional volcano acting up. We work to get and remain always prepared. Watching you from our "secret retirement" location in Bulacan province, on Luzon island in the Republic of the Philippine islands.

I like that bag! Nice set up and demo of yours. Have several various canteens, some surplus and a couple Nalgene ones and an oversized Stainless, could easily make a similar kit to yours. Good job really nice I CARRY KEITH titanium kit WILL have mark over at center LINE center to make my custom bag that has plenty of room & space. It's a little pricey but what the heck iam supporting a combat vet small business owner. When it works 4 you cool. THATS what I just do. I tried so many other kits before I finally saved up for Centerline’s Canteen Carrier. Buy once, cry once. I wasted so much time & money concerned over the price before I finally decided I was done supporting America’s enemy; China. Nothing beats owning quality gear 100% American made by an American Veteran no less! ❤ 🇺🇸 You’re going to LOVE your GCC. If you haven’t already, be sure to order the longer strap along with 2- padded strap wraps so you can turn it into a backpack on the fly. I found a video on this & called up Mark to ask for a longer strap. (ask Mark about this) I’m waiting on The Burrito now to complete my inconvenient camping load out. Enjoy your Canteen Carrier! 😊

I have had my eye on this for a while now and it would be the ONLY canteen carrier I would go with...never heard a negative thing about it other than the price.....but most will tell you it was worth every penny. @@amgolfer3591 hey, so the titanium firebox is on my short list of gear left to buy to complete my kit. I agree with you completely. I’ve been saving for items in Titanium to swap out with my stainless because I spend a lot of time out kayaking & have a weight limit, otherwise, I’d have everything I need already. You don’t HAVE TO use 2 padded strap wraps or even one but it sure feels better, plus there’s storage within the PSW’s. I’ve folded up 2-Sea To Summit 10L dry bags, 50’ of dyneema cordage & a Suunto wrist compass inside my PSW’s. As for comfortability, it’s appreciated when/if you have a heavier load out within your GCC/MaDeuce like I do. lol …I have 3 various sized titanium canteen cups plus my filled canteen, Titanium steaming rack mini, 3 days of food, Ti utensils, Ti salt/pepper shaker, Ti straw, Silky Saw, Knife, Climbing Carabiner, fire kit, Milbank bag, Sawyer w/Hydrapak Stow 1L as my dirty bag, 12-Titanium stakes, Exotac ripSPOOL, oLight Titanium flashlight, Multi-tool, and a 9’ X 7’ Silnylon tarp personally made by cottage shop here in The USA & a pair of leather work gloves all fits inside my GCC. As for “The Burrito”, that’s another piece of gear Centerline has on their website which hasn’t received as much attention as it deserves. I came across a video from this guy who has one he carries his Kelly Kettle strapped to the outside of another bag so I messaged Mark about it because I didn’t see it on his website. He said it didn’t ordered as much so he took it down. Wanting to be sure I actually wanted it (I DID), Mark sent me one to test out for a week. I ordered one right after I tested out a variety of configurations with kit to ensure it would work. I -HAD-TO- HAVE- IT. 😆 It’s back up there now. It’s also gone by the name of CFSE in case you want to conduct research on this nifty little bag (only 2 videos besides Mark’s that I can see on YT). You can also rig The Burrito into a mini backpack by twisting the longer strap like I do with my GCC now. The Burrito fits Heavy Cover’s Titanium East German Mess Kit, a down quilt, Warbonnet down pillow, Sleep-n-go’s air mattress, Keith Titanium Skillet, KT plate (inside the lid), UCO candle lantern inside protective sleeve, Titanium shovel, STS’ bug net, Silnylon Poncho, 6 Ti tarp stakes, full blowout kit and even more food. In addition to things you can contain on the insides of The Burrito, there’s molle webbing positioned perfectly on the outside to strap numerous pouches that Centerline offers. NOTE: I wrapped up an extra large wool scarf (125” X 52”) as a blanket, inside the connection strap of The Burrito’s body connected to the lid. With just my GCC & Burrito I have a complete camp kit with tons of gear to comfortably camp overnights on kayaking trips. I recently boughtGrand Trunk’s Alice Mayfly chair to strap on the outside of my kit so I can be a glamper! Hahaha I hope my breakdown of gear that fits inside these bags helps you or others get creative with your own load outs and you enjoy the outside! See ya out there maybe someday. 😊

👍 Nice Kit, I really like the bag. I have a similar kit w/ the Oasis canteen (agree no need for metal), a titanium USGI style cup w/ handles & bale from Boundless Voyage, and the titanium Firebox Nano Stove. I have both the small and large versions of the folding cup (food bowl & drinking cup). I have included a Trangia alcohol stove as well, thanks to the plastic and titanium components the kit still is relatively light weight.

I don't like a single strap bag, as it cuts into my shoulder. Another option, is the little waist pack, Walmart sells for about $17, Outdoor Products, comes with a BPA free water bottle. It will carry a one quart canteen in the center pouch with dual zippers. Carrys nice for short hikes. Just bring it around to the front to get whatever.

I’m kind of intrigued by that stove. I’ve tried alcohol and Sterno with the Pathfinder kit that I purchased. I also don’t particularly care to drink out of a metal canteen. I might actually use my branded kit a little more with these alternatives. Starbucks crystals. Opens your eyes.

5yrs ago you did an canteen kit video and preferred the L-shaped handle instead of the winged style. Is that still the case? I like those little silicone folding cups and also use them in every kit. I'm also a fan of the Walmart dog pet section and the silicone folding dog bowls. Got them there cheap and it's basically same as GSI and others.

Try liquid IV for real electrolytes and they taste better than the sugary Gatorade imo. For coffee Folgers have coffee grounds in a tea bag so you can brew real fresh coffee in the field. Just some findings from experience, I also used the Gatorade and instant coffee in the past and as for the coffee I carry both instant for quick coffee and the coffee bags for fresh coffee all depends on time constraints. 👍🇺🇲

Pathfinder stuff is just rebranded generic Chinese junk. Even Canterbury confirms it in a video or 2. Not that I begrudge them trying to make a little extra cash, but *i* wouldn't pay a premium for the Pathfinder name.
