Thank you for your comment. I was building custom furniture at the time, and I had many scraps of wood from those kind of projects. So this build did not really cost me anything as I used leftover wood, glue, and tools I already had. And since then wood has gone up 300% in cost. I believe this was made out of mahogany. But even now, I can’t imagine this costing more than $10 US. The supplies required are minimal. Your labor is the enjoyable part.
Nice design! Did you measure the sound level before you place the phone on the amplifier and after to have some decibel values? I made an amplifier for my smartphone and the sound coming out had too much highs and not enough lows so it was not pleasant to listen to. My second design which I also used for my HDTV worked very well with no overbearing highs. I used that design to model my second smartphone amplifier and it produces good amplification and is pleasant to listen to. Nice project! Have a great day!
No, I did no acoustic measurements other than my own ear. I build guitars as well and am accustomed to listening to wood. Mahogany provides warm tones.
Ed, thank you for watching. This particular item was made 5 years ago, for an iPhone 5 and the dimensions were crafted to fit that particular model. The wood wasn't 'hollowed-out' but rather the box was built in that particular shape from a block of wood cut into pieces and re=assembled. At about 4min 40 sec in this video you can see how the inside was cut-out.
I do like the idea but This thing is not Green someone cut a complète tree for that little piece of wood !? 😐😕 again i still think that this idea is genius but maybe using recycled wood would be much better ! 😏
Actually no. This one piece of wood was used for many projects with very little waste. I've been using this one slab of wood for years, cutting from it as I need it. I've built tables and chairs from that one slab and, most recently, I used the little I had remaining to build an acoustic guitar. An instrument that will live on for generations and bring music to the world. Using wood for spoons and other small projects is a perfect way to utilize smaller sections that may not be appropriate for anything else. Specifically, for spoons, I like using pieces with grain patterns, knots and other imperfections that render them inappropriate for other projects, even pieces that otherwise may become scrap and end up in the burn pile. So, when we use wood for practical purposes, especially when we build things that may otherwise be made with plastic, we are practicing environmentally sound policy.
Tom Ford let me explain that to you so in your video you did use that fancy piece of wood to make that speaker and probably that is What many off your viewers well do too and the majority of them ignore where that wood is coming from . I am not pointing at you and saying that you are guilty but the big problem in her is those selfish companies that provide that wood you have no idea how much damage they are doing to the forest around the world to be more spécifique in 2010 i did have a trip to the amazon with my parents I was just a kid back then and it was the most enjoyable and beautiful experience in my entire life and after many years I did fly back to the same place hoping for having that same amazing experience again. I was totally shocked from what I seen all the forest that existed ones have been completely disappeared big ugly yellow machines end Angry workers biting and slicing trees that probably have been there for hundreds off years all the organic system has been destroyed all the beautiful birds and animals have been gone for good the local people kicked out from there lands and properties . I won't say the name of the selfish country responsible for that abused but I'm pretty sure that you are knowing who it is. before that painful expérience I did have no interest whatsoever to protect nature but now I can say that I I'm going to do everything to save one tree if possible. If you are interested to see what I'm talking about you can simply Google it and believe me it want be pretty
That's a great attitude, to finally become a conservationist. Human kind needs more like minds. Time to throw away your computer and/or smart phone because i am certain you know how much damage they do to the environment and your health and you wouldn't want to by a hypocrite.
