You can change the tuning range of the transmitter by reducing or increasing the number of turns in the coil. To raise the tuning range above 108, simply use fewer turns and you can use audio of TV channel 7-12 on an analog TV set or a "police scanner" as a receiver, or increase the number of turns for TV channel 2-6.

i have built one and it works and surprisingly mine sounded even clearer than yours, every word of the transmitted music is easily recognised up to about 15 meters , thanks a lot man !

You remind me by this fucking moment, when I was young (15 years old) & built a transmitter.. after several tries and hard working it worked successfully.. I was soooooo fucking happy with it and was "playing" with it all the next day since I woke up.. at the evening the same day cops were in front of the door !!!!!! Really well edited video and good content. I am a little confused as to how this transmits FM waves versus producing AM waves. What in this setup is actually doing the frequency modulation?

So I made one of these. Except for the circuit was Stronger, because I wanted a higher wattage.(1.5KW) I wanted the signal to reach further. I don't know it's legal to make an FM transmitter. I had mine running for about six months. Until I was forced to shut it down. Some unhappy Suit dudes claiming to be from the FCC. Had a warrant and confessated my transmitter. Now I have to pay off an insane fine, I wasn't even harming anything. I was just propagating an electromagnetic wave. Apparently you need a License to own and operate a transmitter. At least in the USA. My country has turned into such a dystopia. I don't see a reason why they need to govern Electromagnetic waves. It's light at the simplest. Even GMRs which some walkie-talkies have built into them. You still mean the license transmit on certain channels. I'm honestly to the point to where I want the FCC. Defunded. I don't even see a point for that branch of the government.

I remember vas building those things,when i was in scool, but Today, those are actually perfectly legal in my country as long as they are conciderred low effect devices.

Whilst that is pretty cool, you should really note that you need a license in some places to broadcast on any public radio band. If you get caught, it can land you in serious trouble and a heavy fine! Keep the power low to avoid interfering with other listeners in you neighbourhood.

Finally I can play earrape music over the gas station intercom.

It was very easy for me to modify a 151 megacycle Walkie Talkie to transmit on 100 megacycles to 108 megacycles. It sounded very clear after the modification. I do not know what the person that had me do the modification wanted to do with it. However, it became a 5 watt 100 to 108 megacycle, wide FM, transmitter. It was an easy £150

Connect an mp3 headphone output or other audio output to the Mic leads to properly broadcast music and improve audio quality (Polarity applies).

Must need e capacitor 100mfd 16 volt for power to get perfect signal.And if u want to play music from mp3 player you must connect e 560 k resistance to 104 pf connected to transistor 3094 base pin . And input volume must be low. Other wise u can not get clear signal.

I actually have had a low powered transmitter that I use since 1997 the FCC don't care as long as you don't interfere with other stations who pay for that signal

I have a project and it is a fm transmitter. the materials you used are common but the #18 wire is not available on any of electronics shop I went. what would you sugggest? how about #22? how many turns?

You forgot one step in tuning it. Please turn it off and check if you are not jamming some licensed band used by some broadcaster or carrier. Still you need a license to run this and make sure you are not interrupting something else.

How important is the exact dimensions of the wire? I just used some thin wire i had laying around and wrapped it around a big looking bolt. Should it work if im just eyeballing it?

looking on the transistor flat side facing me - it's EBC from left to right. some pinouts are CBE. mine are EBC but looking on the pictures compared to the schematics it looks like those in the project are CBE. please help. can't tune it. the i've soldered it there's voltage between collector and emitter. can't find it on sdr.

But I starting from this principle I would like to create a project, which is to create interference to my home hifi (I have to take a whim off) and then if for example I put on a CD or trivially the radio I would like to be able to change music or what I want at a distance (5\10 km). A small tipp - you should use ALWAYS a PLASTIK screwdriver since the metal one also works as small antenna and makes it more difficult to get a clear setting :)

Can you state what was the capacitance of the variable capacitor and the FM frequency that you are using?

It won't work at all, I have already tested this circuit with many kinds of transistors, including 2N2222, 2N3904, BC547, and BC546. I also have gathered all of the other components 10K, 1M, 100, 1K, and 100K Ohm resistors, 0.1, 4 and 0.01 uF ceramic capacitors and a trimmer capacitor with range of 0 - 40 pF. Can you help me to find what I possibly did wrong ?

Amazing how things don't change. I built something like this in the 70's. I would recommend testing before hot gluing.

My goodness it's fun to see kids do this. I've done this (probably exact same schematic when I see the parts) back in 1987. Really cool seeing this again. You can even boost the power (and thus range) by using a 12V battery I don't know the specs of these transistors but the once I used back in 1987 actually go up to 30V.

I remember making one of these just to jam my neighbor's loud fm stereo. Instead of using trimmer cap, I used the one from an old am radio, the plastic type variable cap for ease of tuning. Removed the mic and replace it with a female phone jack so I could input various noise making gadgets in it XD

I built this kind of thing back in college in 2004 as a final project. My team was the first ones to use wireless successfully in a final project, our idea was to use it to locate your keys when you lost them. Have a transmitter in a central location and a small, low power FM radio on your keychain. Wish I had this video back then, most of our time was spent researching and circuit building then starting over when the circuit didn't work right. Well done.

Instead of the microphone, connect a headphone jack (maybe need a amplifyer), and connect to your phone. Nie u van connect your phone with car radio ^.^

I totally wanted to build mini fm transmitters like this from kits in the back of popular science as a kid to spy on people. The ones I really wanted were expensive (and tiny), but I did build a slightly larger one (about the size of a travel toothbrush holder). I left it in the room with my parents a few times and went into the other room to listen on my walkman and spy on what they were saying, but it was never interesting.

I remember building a circuit similar to this decades ago. The frequency is very unstable. Simply moving your hand next to the circuit or antenna changes the frequency. The range is good enough for the house. These days you can buy digitally tuned, stable frequency with LCD frequency display, FM stereo transmitters for under US$5 and a simple modification can increase their power into illegal range.
