That turned out really, really well!

And my weird brain went immediately to what a shame the blunderbusses (or is the plural blunderbi?) would have to get tagged with the tacky orange tape at a convention to show that yes, they are props and not functional. Beautiful work!

I was actually going to include an insert for the barrel end that can reprinted in bright orange that just clips in. I really tried to strike home just how non functional this thing is, I even went as far to make the whole flintlock mechanism completely one piece to remove any doubt that the whole thing is nothing more than an ornament. I am really happy with the end outcome though, the look and feel just is so good. Thanks for watching Cindy :)

@@SamhainPropworks The security volunteers for some of our past cons have the reputation of being overeager (and inconsistent) in banning props - I like the idea of the orange barrel, this way it can be swapped out when photos are taken. Again, what a fantastic job!

Thank you mrprice! I really enjoyed the build on this one, the 3d printed elements made a lot of the slow work on a build like this a lot faster. Mind you it did take quite a few hours to design the whole thing digitally to make sure everything fit together right after it was printed and carved :)

@@SamhainPropworks I was wondering about the actually time put in. But after you figure out one, building another is really fast. And yours looks very similar to the Denix one I bought a few years ago for our production of Beauty and the Beast. High quality work.

Lol, I already spent no less than 3 hours reading Canadian law to make sure that I was not going to get in trouble for making the fake one. I'm 100% sure that if I ever made a functional one I would have our local constabulary knocking on my door before I know it. Canadian Firearm law is goofy and navigating it is horrible. I will stick to the fake ones. lol. Thanks for watching :)

The Blunderbuss is the easiest of the three styles to build and I really enjoyed building them. The musket was a monster and the hardest of the bunch! Feel free to share you end result if you end up building them :)

Ahoy ya rum soaked sack o squid guts, haharrrrr!! These are AMAZING Samhain, they turned out soooo rad!!!! I need one buddy!! I think I mentioned to you that I turned my office at work into a pirate tavern and I’m also completely theming out my work room at home into a pirate den! I’ve been buying actual 17th and 18th century antiques but also using a lot of replicas too! Anyway, let me know if you will be selling any of these, I’d love to grab one! I wish I had the time to make all of your awesome pirate props, they are all so amazing! Super fun tutorial buddy! Cheers!☠️🏴‍☠️🍻😜

GRIM! I'm so happy to see you commenting, I almost emailed again! :) Canada makes things very difficult when it comes to these things, as mailing them across the border they are treated as a real firearm and is simply not allowed to be shipped internationally. I would love to have offered one for your Pirate cave, but alas the world can be a complicated place. :) Maybe I can find a prop I can send you to add to it though! Have a good one!

A pirate weapon cage? A closed display for all these would be kind of cool. Though I worry the amount of people who could build it may be small. I'm working on swords this week, so before I know it a cage may be needed to store them all regardless! lol. Thanks for watching Fabworks :)

Really nice work. I did something similar a few years ago. I used blue foam for the body, pvc for the barrel and craft foam for the mechanism. Now I 3D print my weapons but I might try your template on foam again.
@SamhainPropworks
@SamhainPropworks Год назад
Thanks Asmateru! I had meant to mention that someone could use foam to make the stock using the same templates! Though, I hope that people would try to make it out of wood, as the final result just feels and looks so authentic. If you already 3d print then you are already half way there! Thanks for watching!

So beautifully made, Samhain!!! I'm embarrassed to say I was lazy and bought a replica awhile back for my Vampire/monster hunter kit, but these are way more impressive. Did your crowing roosters inspire you to make them and to wish they were the real thing?😆

Thanks so much Fraidy, I really love how these turned out and am excited to add them to some of my scenes coming up in the haunting season. I may try to convince my lovely wife to completely re-decorate the living room into a pirate grotto. I am starting to have enough pieces to pull it off as well! I am actually working on a vampire hunter kit prop build! It's very involved and may be like 5 different videos to get everything into it! We are actually down to I think 3 roosters now, we gave away 5 of our columbian rock roosters to neighbours who needed some. We ended up with just a single one left, a lovely white hen my youngest daughter has named Hedwig! None of the others are crowing yet, as the Brahma grow so slow, many of them still have chick fluff on parts of them after 8 weeks. Mind you those mongers can grow anywhere fro 18 to 31" tall! I'll throw some more images up on Patreon when I have a chance :). Thanks for watching Fraidy

As a joiner, prop maker and part-time Pirate/full time Halloween freak, your video hit all the right buttons. The Blunderbusses look absolutely fantastic. Like you I’m more of an “atmosphorical” maker and aim more towards what other people’s expectations are rather than being historically correct, so I’m definitely going to make both wooden and EVA foam versions of the weapons from your templates. With the printed parts, what type of printer did you use? (My buddy has a Tronxy 100) Also (unrelated) … are you selling separate downloads of your flame diffusers from your wall sconce torches video as I’d love a few of those. Can’t wait to see what you come up with next for your Pirate adventures.

Thanks for the kind words, and yes I find the best place to lie with props is somewhere between reality and stereotypical expectations as quite often the reality of some of our favourite items is a long way from what they actually were. My two printers are both Anycubic Vyper and I printed the parts in PLA (I did do a test run in PETG) but found it was not needed, the supports needed when printed are very minimal, and in some cases a lot of the design of the parts was trying to avoid a ton of needless extra support printing. You know that is a good idea regarding the 3d printed flames and I will split them out in the near future as separate files for purchase. The small one I used on my candles is available already if you are interested in that one. As for pirate adventures, I just came in from my garage covered in sawdust and stain on my hands, with two flintlock pistols coming along nicely, hopefully ready for this week as a tutorial. Glad you found my channel and thanks for watching :)

@@SamhainPropworks Do you have any plans for a full length musket, or doing a barrel amendment to convert the blunderbuss into a musket? (Whilst not ‘piratically correct’ … I’ve always loved the idea of having 3 or 4 ‘stacked’ rifles in our camp, or an open crate of muskets on display.)
@SamhainPropworks
@SamhainPropworks 11 месяцев назад
I 100% do, while I'm in the flintlock groove, I plan on knocking out a bunch of replicas, as like you said, one in a scene is cool, many in a scene leads a whole new level to the immersion. I left the musket for the last as there is a few things I'm still brainstorming on some parts of it. The pistols are fun as I am making two and I flipped the flintlock mechanism on one so would be holster-able if needed. After this I am working on some swords to add to a scene as background props. Pirate fun all the time. Did you see the cannon I built on an earlier tutorial? ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Zluhodlf2io.html

@@SamhainPropworks I did indeed. Very impressive. I’d already made one based on the Livingston Cannon out of 2x 4’ cardboard tubes but it was nice to see I’d followed the same direction as you. The only real difference was I’d made a tapered barrel by cutting a 5” triangle out of 1 piece, and inserting that triangle into the 2nd rear tube with contact adhesive. (The trick I found to getting the newly cut edges of the cardboard to conform to a smaller circumference was to mist it with water to get it damp, and use some massive 60cm worm drive hose clips to pull/hold it in place. I added some 2” rings (cut from another tube) to act as reinforcing, and decoration. The ends I made out of EVA foam. Coated in 3 layers of yacht varnish it stands up to light overnight rain.

@SamhainPropworks
@SamhainPropworks 8 месяцев назад
Foam is an option, but know that it really will be a display piece. You can just use the same template and swap the material to foam and it should work just as well! Two pieces of .75" foam laminate should give you the same thickness needed for it. A table mounted hot wire would be amazing for this. I'm sorry you could not get the wood to work out, this really is a fun project and the wood version is just an amazing prop to handle. I was cleaning up my halloween decorations and came across the set of these props. Regardless thanks for watching!
