In this video, I build a "poor-mans'" resistive dummy load (8 ohms) for testing amplifiers. Yes, you can buy Chinese dummy loads online for $20 AUD, but where's the fun in that? Note: This video took over two weeks to film and edit whilst waiting for stuff, so please appreciate it.
Just to be clear, I could have used 8 1 ohm 10 watt resistors wired in series and achieved the same result. But this would have looked a bit messier as the resistor leads would be at angles if I wanted them to look straight in the case. This can put extra stress on the leads and the tag strips.

Unfortunately, the power dissipation isn't evenly shared between the parallel connected 2.2 and 22 ohm resistors. Because the resistors are in parallel, they will have the same voltage and so the 2.2 ohm resistor will dissipate 10x the power since P=V^2 / R. When the 2.2 ohm resistor is dissipating its rated 10W, the 22ohm will dissipate 1W, so the effective load rating will be 44W not 80W...

Happy Christmas to you too. Yes I assembled the DSO as a diy kit I think more than 3 years ago now. I haven't used it for a long time so am I happy to pass it on to you to be creative with. I don't think the soldering station is meant to be beeping and ranging in temperature like it is. I think it needs 24 volts. You're meant to be able to set it to a specific temperature and it should hold that temperature. Your project looks like A Lot of fun to build. And you look you're having fun. Not sure if it's worth 50$. I laughed out loud at the intro. Try and See if your magic Biro can conjure up A Steak dinner then I'll be really impressed.

Is there anything you could add to this to allow for 100w? What about using 15w resistors instead if 10? I'm not even sure they exist, but I can't think of anything else myself. Nonetheless, this is a great compact design! Thank you!

Yes, you can. You could buy 25 w resistors, etc
