Build an airplane with simple materials that uses elastic potential energy from a balloon to fly! As the balloon releases air, it converts elastic potential energy into kinetic energy, making the plane fly. Planes are often powered by the energy from gas or rocket fuels (where energy is stored in a chemical form). But, recently engineers have been able to build solar powered and hydrogen powered aircrafts. When engineers design and build these planes, they have to think about how the energy will be stored and also think about how the plane body will be built to waste less energy.
