The reason that 3x5 shape looks pleasing might be because it's close to the Golden Ratio which shows up everywhere in nature! Other good ratios that fit the bill are 5x8, 8x13, and 13x21 😁

The gate dungeon is the most impressive thing I’ve ever seen in Minecraft. And this Building with Bdubs series is the best Minecraft content on RU-vid. I really enjoy your videos man.

You did a fab job mending the cliff! I completely agree that it looks a lot better this way. Fits in more with the theme.

To help with the tree on the cliff affecting the size of the cliff, it could be useful to try using birch leaves and glow lichen. This will create a blue/white tint to the leaves helping to blend them into the background and improve the sense of depth by pushing the tree further into the background.

I thought the first cliff looked so organic and fascinating. And then the second cliff gets shown and I'm just instantly hit with "oh yeah, that's a cliff, that's what it was supposed to look like". Really awesome bdubs, thank you for the video.

Looking at the finished build, I actually really do like it without an overhang. More so than if one had been included. I wonder if it would look too strange to use differential detailing on builds: detailed for close-up on the bottom, since that's where eye level is, and using this new texturing approach up top, since that's all you'll be able to see over the surrounding rooftops.

He Bdubs! there is also a /brush rock. if you use this brush you will be able to place randomly generated rocks and not clean spheres. add 3 different numbers behind the command to add roughness and more factors! hope i could help you :D

Hey bdubs! You should look into the “golden ratio” for more stuff about appealing-to-the-eye dimensions. maybe you already know about this but I think it’s rlly cool :)

With the cliff face, make sure to put boulders on the ground around it. I think it will add to the realism instead of a crazy cliff jutting out of nowhere.

Version one of the cliff reminded me of pride rock in The Lion King. It had a cartoonish feel to it which isn'ta negative observation. The custom brush cliff has a shape that looks more natural. Both were great. Version two fits really well in this world.

2 things..first I get what you’re saying about the change to the mountain cliff. Though I was a fan of the first version and noted that it was reminded me of Lion King, it was that very thing that made it a bit less “natural”. I like the change a lot, and wonder if adding water will help cement in your mind the form that fits your vision. Second, you’re a great teacher. Remember that people learn in different ways...some by step by step instruction, others by following your lead, and others by listening to you work through the process. My friend, you’ve been and continue to be a phenomenal teacher. Well done!!

20:35 I got to get more comfortable not using a "overhang" on my roofs. Maybe its my lack of building skills but all houses have at least 1-2 block overhang on them instead of being flat. Bdubs is constantly giving out tips, one day i'll get good enough to use it! :)

I always struggle with texturing my builds, this man is on a whole 'nother level also aaaa! I'm so glad somebody else uses light gray wool in their texturing--I recently did that in my latest vid and it adds such a nice vibe!

I can't get over how great it is to have the visual of the blocks that are being stored in the area. the outside overhang with bricks and stone bricks and basalt is so so pretty

I guess the "unfinished backside" gag that Grian started has spread out to all the other Hermits

"put a tree next to it" is so true lmao now i understand why i build so many trees next to my builds.

Also could use the second stage of copper with granite stairs aswell, reason being its a lighter tone of pink similar to the granite but it also has a greenish hue which could be the moss (or atleast I think its moss) that grows on tiles irl on rooves if they are old or aren't clean

For all that the texturing really makes the build stand out, my one complaint is the utter flatness of the roof at the front. It just seems like a faux-pas to leave a roof without a lip extending over the edge of the front facade. At least to me.

Bdubs has ascended into a god of minecraft building. No seriously he is not just putting some blocks that look nice together anymore, he is carefully using irl laws of architecture and art to make something that is so detailed and honestly perfect. Bdubs plz keeping building like this and I hope, maybe not this season on hermitcraft but another that u use these skills for a giant mega base.

Something I’ve always kept in mind when incorporating a build more into terrain is this: put something from the build onto the terrain, and something from the terrain onto the build. Common examples are piles of barrels/chests and fences, and vines, moss, or living roofs.

The insights we get on the thought process of buildings are so valuable! Love ya Bdubs❤️

While watching your episode, an ad showed up showing a house without an overhang. It was as if youtube was trying to say, "see, it is perfectly fine- normal even- to have houses without overhangs. Also I'm really enjoying this series (first time watching building with bdubs.) I like seeing how you go about designing and texturing.

Out of all Minecraft content I consume, this is probably my favorite and the one series I look forward to. I appreciate your creativity and patience, Bdubs. Always a pleasure to watch.

I really like the way you are implementing coloring recently. And that cliff. It makes me watch more of your videos even though I normally watch more of the technical stuff.

This video was amazing for me. Whether it’s my art in real life or building in a game I struggle to start my projects. Seeing people build in minecraft the first thoughts are often not seen so it feels like those dynamic interesting shapes and ideas were where it started. For me because I couldn’t think of those interesting builds I often lack the courage to start. Seeing you go from a basic laid out stone box to a full fledged build is inspiring and has me excited for start my next project.

I love the in-depth explanations and ramblings you have in these videos. So useful and entertaining at the same time. The chimney is my favourite part of the build, very bold and imposing!

Love hearing your thought process and how you design your builds, it helps a lot to improve ones own building skills. Texturing is so important. It almost always takes builds to the next level. I really like this more "realistic" texturing approach as opposed to the usual 50%bricks/25%granite/25%smooth granite kind of texturing. Of course both have their place but this is very cool stuff !

This is perfect timing the building I'm currently working on I wasn't sure how to texture it, I mean it's alright as is, but the idea to add Shadow using oak mixed with the birch and things is genius, I'll have to mess around with the building and try that trick out, I really want to get better at building, because right now I'd say I'm decent, maybe I should practice doing just one style until I'm good at it first because right now every new world I start is a completely different thing so then I have to learn a new style which was kind of my intention was to just dabble in different areas until I'm decent enough at it then move on

Using the different brush is also really true to how rocks form their shape naturally. Minerals get squished into specific orientations, and those same orientations are found in individual rocks, in local outcrops and across whole landscapes. Small scale details match large scale details. Good job bdubs!

Honestly Bdubs, in terms of your terrain generation (your cliff), looking into how geology shapes a landscape might be very useful. That kind of cliff wouldn't appear out of nowhere in the real world, and I think that's why it registers as "wrong". In my opinion; the new shape is much better, but it needs a river that carved out the rock and created that cliff, or big boulders at the bottom that fell off, and more similar shaped mountains/hills in the area (although I understand that that would be *a lot* of work).

omg bdubs i knew abaut the gray wool thingy to! i have been using it for like a year and now when you found out abaut it im so huppy, i use it mainly on train, little rocks, it wouldnt blend well with youre stile but i like to use light gray wool, light gray concrete and andersite, gives a nice acrilic paints tipe feeling to the build

Thanks for another inspirational video! I played around in creative for a few hours after your last Hermit Craft episode, and I had a great idea for a build challenge. Build the best scene but the entire canvas must be only 1 block wide.

The barnhouse looks amazing. Absolutely love the attic and the roof of the building and how they're textured. I think the blacksmith roof has some jarring texturing on the edge where the jungle wood slabs are.

Bdubs, this is phenomenal! The way you keep discovering new techniques is truly inspiring, and the effects are stunning! I bet the bigger MC community will start playing around with this method soon.

You're essentially exploring model vs. skin. Think about how many old video games/cgi animations were able to create visually compelling characters despite their low polygon count! There's ways in which what you're doing it here allows you to think more critically about the large-detail form of your work. I'm here for it.

The silhouette of the cliff is much more better! The curve on the old one looked unnatural (which isn't a bad thing if its meant to look man made or magic), this line is alot more interesting to look at because it feels more natural and because it has small parts and big parts sticking out (variation in shape sizes is a great way to add interest to terrain and even houses!) :)

Bdubs texturing and use of color honestly is great and it’s been motivating me to experiment with more texturing in my own artwork. I’ve definitely found myself wanting to create more environmental pieces lately because of it too.
