The issue with recommending Xingqiu and Xiangling to newcomers is that it's all too easy to underestimate how important Energy Recharge is to characters like them (aka burst-focused charas). Basically your first priority when building them is getting enough ER to burst when you want them to. *Then* you focus on damaging stats
While this is true, most players won't be building artifacts on characters early and won't have access to certain sets. I used Xiangling in my first team without an ER weapon and Bennett and found the energy management manageable since monsters shower you with energy particles. You don't need to have burst ready to go every fight. Things like Xiangling's Phys/NA build used to be a thing early on in the game until you can get these characters properly built. Nonetheless, this is still good advice to everyone building Xiangling and Xingqiu.
@@calamitygenshinimpact1255 when i started the game two years ago i had a really different experience. I was told to play her by friends and it did not help that i almost immediately went to dragonspine 😂 Guoba and Xiangling made it a nightmare. So having a word about what is ER needs and how to compensate them (with 4* artefacts maybe?) really helps.
For your suggestion on bow characters, Tighnari is a great pick to build for new players especially for Oceanid since they can choose him on the free 5 star selector on the anniversary.
For me, I’d recommend building the MC but not leveling the skills up, only character level. Usually you’re given tasks while progressing like upgrade 3 characters to level 40 and the best part about MC is his ascension materials are free so you don’t need to spend resin. A good stopping point would be 70/70 and he’s good to use for headcount in the new end game mode where you need so many characters of specific elements. Because traveler can change elements he’s basically like a free slot if you’re short on characters. Also anemo MC pretty strong early game even without talents and you rack up all the cons for MC while playing the game.
Thanks for this video. Biggest thing I struggle w after a month is understanding roles within the team. I feel I'm so heavy on just brute force & attack but, outside of that ... there's just air. 😂

I'm coming from Call of Duty: Mobile, and sure, eventually, I'll have complaints about this game, as well (systems are made to f you over) but, it's MUCH BETTER FOR F2P or Minnow Players. A lot of stuff seems grindable, and least every 10th draw is guaranteed a 4* or higher. Least, if you get doubles, you unlock Constellations AND get Starglitter. Btw, may I ask. When will the BP Weapon choices be updated? What's the cycle of that, and is there any weapon worth getting in your opinion?
I think the thing that is most helpful for new players is understanding energy. In most games, you just generate mana/energy, and Genshin isn't like that. Another thing is that you can get characters for free on Paimon's bargains; that's a tip that most of these new player guides leave out. Fischle, Xiangling, Xingqiu, and Bennet are all on the calendar for constellations, and it's a guaranteed thing, not a gacha (I also like Beidou and Noelle, but maybe that's just me.) Also, you're directed to Dragonspine fairly early in the game, and if you take Barbara, she can get you frozen. I wouldn't recommend Faruzan early in the game (I have her at C6 and still haven't built her,) but new players are now getting Lynette early in the game, and that makes a lot more sense. Heck, I'd build Collie first. Lastly, Lisa can take care of those birds.
I appreciate the helpful advice, but this video was solely focused on what characters to build. Talking about how energy works would be more fitting in a video about combat basics. Energy can be easily farmed from weak enemies like hillichurls and slimes which is how I dealt with the lack of ER early on. Again, topic/advice for another video. You can get characters from Paimon for free, but that is a whole other video of how obtaining that currency works and which characters to look out for, and how Amber/Lisa/Kaeya constellations are the ones players end up going for since they end up being the rarest constellations in the game. Sure, you can get constellations for other characters as well, but I feel like there isn't a need to really rush to C6 for anyone, as new players do beginner, standard, and limited wishes, there's tons of opportunities to get cons even as the character pool grows. Most players will be taking advantage of the skip to Natlan button in 5.0, so I don't see this being an issue. I only recommended Faruzan if players didn't have Surcrose or Lynette, was not sure if new players can still get her for free so I wanted to offer alternatives in case. Lisa can, but she still can't hit weak spots for Ruin Guards/Hunters, so a bow character is still advised.
if the account is new, XL XQ are long term 4* that u need to keep an eye for, but u really dont want to use both when AR is low and u just cannot stack ER, and u need R3+ fav/sac sword for XQ, so its not a good idea to build them first. Bennett is usable even at C0, he will save the sorry ass of a weak party, if u pull Qiqi early on ingame, she will carry your weak party for a while. Faruzan is great at C6 if u use anemo hypercarries, before that building her ER is a pain. U invest in amber, if u want to make genshin a complete challenge, her kit is very challenging.
I'll agree with most of this comment's advice. XQ is ok early on, you don't have to use him to burst EVERY fight, even without sac/fav sword. The particles from his skill + the particles you get from killing weak enemies should be enough to have it available when you need it for tougher enemies. Amber is fine early game if no other archer characters are available, you can just use her for her charged shots and ranged damage until the player pulls for a better bow character.
I dont even play Genshin and watched the video anyway! Just as a thought: Why does everyone say you need X or Y for a character (ER for Xingqiu and Xiangling anyway) when clearly for the challenges a new player is gonna face they most definitely do not need a whole lot of that stat, right? The character would totally still do their thing. Sure its running the character suboptimally but I feel the entire point of the video is just some pointers, not perfect builds for those characters... Question: Do you write scripts or is this ad-libbed with multiple takes?
Hey Nitemare, I guess the ER is for convenience so that they can have their bursts always ready to go. I didn't find it necessary while starting out. I used Xiangling without any ER and Bennett and found my burst time acceptable, I used a lot of her normal attacks/elemental skill for easier fights and started saving my bursts for the more crowded fights or harder enemies. ALSO THANK YOU, SOMEONE WHO GETS IT. I don't write scripts for my videos; I write outlines of what topics I go over and then ad lib from there with multiple takes.
If you happen to get Chevreuse early on build her immediately because she is excellent at enabling even mediocre pyro and electro units and she has a complete functional and strong kit at C0. She can make lots of otherwise overlooked early game units viable without hyper investment and there are more pyro onfielders than any other element so you are bound to have a few before too long. She also pairs extremely well with Bennett, Xiangling, Fischl to make a strong flex tape core for any pyro or electro DPS. Even Yanfei and Amber can be viable with her support (not great but at least useful situationally)
another panda banger!~ lol, but seriously all of this tracks as someone who's still *relatively* new to genshin. there was a lot of time in the beginning where I didn't have certain characters, and then there were characters I had that I wasn't sure about if I should build them or not. like it took me a while to get xingqiu and sucrose, who I think I got both from standard pulls. but then I was kinda interested in building chongyun b/c he seemed cool, but I got cold feet b/c I was lacking resources.
My list for new players: MC(dendro mc is pretty good), Noelle(You get her from beginner banner and she heals,shield and does dmg), Xiangling(Abyss) and after this everything is based on your luck xD. But 4* i would def build if you get them are: Bennett, Xingqiu, Kuki Shinobu. After Bennett, Xingqiu, Kuki i would build characters that are usable with your main dps. I started in 4.6 and Noelle carried me early game untill like Ar40 but after i got Wanderer my team was: Wanderer, Bennett, Xiangling, Noelle -Noelle +Furina -Furina +Yelan I still only have 5characters fully build with artifacts and lvl90 weapons (Yelan, Furina, Wanderer, Xiangling, Bennett)
I feel for a new player, what should be recommended is hyperbloom, as it is easy to execute you already get collei for free as well as Barbara and Lisa and without constellations and sub optimal builds, hyperbloom would pop off for a new player, Xiangling is not a good option for new players cus even mid game players struggle with her energy issues and the reason why she is even given recognition in the first place is because she is the only option for off field pyro application that deals damage, and you should also take note that she is very susceptible to powercreep by the pyro archon coming few patches away In conclusion, I feel recommendations for a new player should be solely hyperbloom cus even with sub optimal builds, hyperbloom still pops off
Hyperbloom sucks early game because it scales with EM and character levels. I would not recommend it for newer players due to needing EM to get the build running and hyperbloom / burgeon are tertiary reactions, they might seem easy for you, but a new player will be overwhelmed with the elemental reaction mechanics and not quite understand how it works. Not to mention Collei requires floor 4, chamber 3 of spiral abyss. Even harder to unlock than Xiangling. Even if Xiangling gets powercrept, she's still an amazing character. Does Arlecchino being the best pyro dps currently mean that Hu Tao/Yomiya/Diluc/Yanfei or any other main pyro dps are useless/not worth building? Nope, not at all, playstyle and fun first and foremost. And again, Xiangling is more accessible to free/new players.
This is something I didn't touch on so thank you for the reminder. Going to high jack this comment for some additional advice. Traveler is a unique character that can change elements, which changes their entire kit. You can level them and a weapon, sure, but talent levels reset with each element. So, it's advised to find an element you like first before building Traveler fully. Right now, Dendro is considered their best element, but with Natlan coming out, Pyro Traveler could have some potential, we won't know until the update is out ofc.
Overrated for good reason. Good pyro application AND damage with much more freedom than most characters when it comes to her builds. The ER requirement is the only thing preventing her from completely breaking the game. What other utility does she need for you? Her C1 has Pyro RES shred to her elemental skill. C6 adds 15% pyro damage bonus to other team members. Her A2 talent also lets her elemental skill give an extra 10% ATK boost.
@@calamitygenshinimpact1255 Personally, I just find her annoying to use. Burst focused and requires too much ER, and is worthless without Bennett. She's basically just built for the abyss, which is 1% of the game. For early game, it's much better to abuse dendro traveler + Lisa and Barbara (and Collei when you get her). But I also fully am aware my particular early game account experience was shaped much differently since I didn't find the abyss early on (online talking up late game floors made me actually avoid finding it in general), and my first rolled character was Thoma, with someone like Bennett showing up only after finishing Enkanomiya. So "abuse these meta characters" was never an option, and I learned quickly that the more the community pushes "character meta" the less resourceful we're actually making new players. Give vs teach a man to fish essentially. It's much more important to teach everyone how to best use what they got, while keeping the smoother to use characters in the back of their mind to get down the line. The best early game character I ever had was Yanfei. Resource passive. Bludgeoning attack for ore farming. Ranged for pesky flying enemies (never found spectors an issue for instance) with tracking for highly mobile ones. Can abuse overload in the midgame. Still does decent damage in the late game, but has the tankfei build option. Her boss is the shielded rock frog with element switching, so it makes you think about who you're taking into your comp more. Smoothest catalyst character. Very underrated.
