You can build this sword with only PVC pipe and a single threaded bolt!

Amazing video. Different from most videos you showed an easy but awesome way to make a katana

Thank you very much! It was one of those where I just wanted to show the whole process on something that I wouldn't normally do!

How hot does it need to be. I was wondering if I could use a hairdryer but I need to know the temp. Preferably in farenheight
@GriddlockCosplay
@GriddlockCosplay 2 года назад
I'm not sure the precise temperature, but I know for sure that a hair-dryer does not have enough power for it. The heat-gun I got was only $40, and has lasted for years already. It is a good investment.

I had the same problem all I did was make a heat retaining box and it softened pretty fast. It’s just a box with 2 hole one for the hairdryer and one for the pvc pipe and inside is aluminum foil all around

Or you can heat the handle up and then insert the blade to the handle.

Thank you! It was fun to make, especially when my normal stuff has to be cosplay safe, I just wanted this to look more realistic.

Can I use the blue pvc pipe? Like I think it's for sewer pipes I think
@GriddlockCosplay
@GriddlockCosplay 3 месяца назад
I have not tried it before. Just be careful of the fumes from heating it.

@@GriddlockCosplay oh one more thing can I use flat bars? Like it's made of stainless steel for my katana replica? And what are the measurements of it? Thank you sorry to bother you mate....

You could use bondo or wood filler instead of caulk. Would be stronger
@GriddlockCosplay
@GriddlockCosplay 3 года назад
I have never used bondo before...I'll have to pick some up then.

Can we add wire in the blade to give it more strength

Question, how durable is it? Can I do practice swings with a build like this? Amazing work btw.
@GriddlockCosplay
@GriddlockCosplay 2 года назад
Since I sharpened the blade, it is very fragile and would nick easily. Unsharpened it will be much more durable, except for the paint. This is more for a display piece or prop than actual sparring.
@samuraijackoff5354
@samuraijackoff5354 2 года назад
I tried it and didn't sharpen mine. Depending on the PVC, it's pretty strong. It can take a real beating without breaking. Getting a thicker and durable PVC is the ideal.
@Jierk
@Jierk 2 года назад
I was really just talking about swinging it around and doing routines, not going as hard as sparring. But from your replies, it seems like this is more than durable enough. Thank you

I also made that but i used stove insted of heat gun
@GriddlockCosplay
@GriddlockCosplay 2 года назад
I've heard that can work well because the oven can make it uniformly hot and generally get it hotter than a heat gun, since it is doing it all at once. Did it work out well?!

Is it possible to make a sheath for the katana?
@samuraijackoff5354
@samuraijackoff5354 2 года назад
You need a wider PVC pipe but it should be easy.
@GriddlockCosplay
@GriddlockCosplay 2 года назад
Anything is possible! A larger piece of PVC is a good idea, basically treated in the same way, but enough to get the sword in and out. But it would be tricky, and need a lot of adjusting the shape of the pipe.
