Hello, can you tell something about corematerial and thickness and also thickness (oz or g) and quantity of layers of fibreglass on each sides.

Did the DIY press actually worked well? I am wondering to press the same way my snowboard. What is the flex of the board?the thickness of the wood core? Excellent construction!!!

Servus und Fröhe Weihnachten, Magnus! I've been considering trying this out because it would be cheaper than simply buying a snowboard in my current situation. Obviously your video and the one by Signal provide a great deal of insight, but I would like to know if you used any other online guide or resource. I'm having trouble finding in depth info about the whole process. Thanks

Captain_Aggron Gutes Neues Jahr! I dont know if you should think of it as a cheaper alternative, see it as a fun project. I would judge the outcome still below what you can buy off the shelf. I had a lot of help watching the very extensive Never Summer factory documentary. Of course I had to invent my own methods since I dont have access to that type of equipment, but it helped a lot with understanding the steps that needed to be done and in what order. Good luck man!

Hi, I would likte to try this myself, can you list the materials you used for this board?
@MrBav02
@MrBav02 6 лет назад
does it matter that the sidecuts are made out of wood and aren't waterproof? won't the board soak up the water?
@magnusgoransson8054
@magnusgoransson8054 6 лет назад
MrBav02 the sides are made of ABS plastic, Glued to the wood core. You are right that without them the board would delaminate with water reaching the core

Volkl made a board with wooden sidewalls... Wonder how that worked around the moisture issue

hey mate.. thinking of making a board myself.. was wondering where you found the dimensions and thicknesses of the core for the board..
@magnusgoransson8054
@magnusgoransson8054 6 лет назад
Calum Yule I knew the tips of the core needed to be 2.4 mm since that is the thickness of the nose pieces. Then I measured the total thickness at that point on the board I was using as a reference. The difference would be the thickness of all other layers. Then it was easy to measure the center of the reference board and subtract the thickness of the other layers. That gives the thickness of the core. I dont remember the exact number but It was around 7.5mm. It was tricky to get the curve between these two but I kind of winged it. In the end I made the core a little thicker, around 8mm, because the inserts were too long. You should use 6mm inserts not 7 like I did. This decision made quite a difference in the weight and flex of the finished board. Good luck mate.

I'm also building myself a board. What type of epoxy did you use?
@rustyshackleford3278
@rustyshackleford3278 6 лет назад
Amna Khan check out snowboardmaterials.com their epoxy is great. QCM advesives also makes a snowboard/ski epoxy. If you choose marine epoxy make sure it is a slow curing epoxy, fast cure is brittle and dangerous
@magnusgoransson8054

The epoxi was from Entropy resins

niiiicccee....how long did it last mate?
@magnusgoransson8054
@magnusgoransson8054 6 лет назад
soopasock 3 days of riding, then it delaminated at the nose. Not bad and I could glue it, but then again it would be more fun to improve the process ( mote pressure ) and make another one, wouldnt it.
@soopasock

delam from contact with rock or from construction fault .....? can't wait for next build once again nice build mate .
@magnusgoransson8054
@magnusgoransson8054 6 лет назад
soopasock thx. construction fault. Probably didnt get enough pressure at the point where the nose starts. I need to update the mold.

You should put the vds rubber between the base and the first layer of fiberclass, on top of the metal edge.

Yo hello, what is this paper you are pulling off at 2:26?
@magnusgoransson8054
@magnusgoransson8054 5 лет назад
Hey, it is butchers paper. Or waxed paper, the same you use in the oven for making food. It was the best way I could think of getting the epoxi not to stick to the press. Worked very well!

All was good until you called it Fleischkäse
@magnusgoransson8054
@magnusgoransson8054 6 лет назад
Captain_Aggron Haha! Fleischkäse is a traditional food in Austria. It is made from left over from the meat industry - snouts and assholes - and tastes great. It is the staple food of skibums because of price and transpotability. Try it with mustard, onion and jalapenos and a Müller Milch on the side. In my mouth it tastes like powder heaven.

Magnus Göransson Oh nonono I am well aware of the beauty and splendor that is to be found in a good slice of Leberkäs. I personally enjoy it with sußsenf. My Bavarian friend just taught me to pick on people who call it Fleischkäse :p

Captain_Aggron Great that your tastebuds have made aquintance with this god given snack! But why does he not like the name? I know some parts call it Leberkäse - just regional piss off?
@pequod_

Magnus Göransson Yeah pretty much just regional banter. Mostly aimed at Berliners lol. Awesome video by the way. Considering doing this myself, despite my lack of any workshop skills.
