Thankyou this helped a lot cause I’m currently restoring a 1966 Chevy corvette convertible and I’m 16 it was my moms car and she passed away and my dad was gonna sell it so I took it and I promised myself I will fix this car for her and I’m paying for it all
Good Info man. I love the tech. I have a 6.0L LQ4 that I want to stroke and bore to a 408 for my 1990 Nissan 300z swap. I will post videos of the build when I start on it.
On the small stuff no one talks about crank key, what are people using mine snapped at 500 miles killing my dragon slayer crank and dampener hence engine is coming out full rebuild.
8.2 DECK NASTY "jumpin soda cans"😂😂 thus is true but I bout died when I heard you and Chris say that.Man every video you one up yourself!Great job guy!And thank you sooo much!!!!
As far as the Melling oil pump, do you recommend a high pressure, high volume or both? Going on an LS2 with a stage 2 BTR cam in my GTO. Doing everything that goes with it and was going to upgrade my oil pump since the timing cover was off anyway. Also any input on the Delphi LS7 lifters or just go with the GM ones. Thanks love the channel!
How far would U push the ls1 alloy block? Was thinking Callie's rods wiesco piston 383k1 crank already have Higgins race heads 30tho off , block being weak point doubt Wana push alloy 5.7 over 950hp what U think ,us Aussies love turbo ls
Jon what turbo do you recommend. I was also thinking about running methanol because I run it in other motors and really would like to stay with the same fuels . Nice to have one drum in a trailer if you know what I mean. This would strictly be a track only motor for me and I'm familiar with methanols maintenance. Would like a turbo that has a bit of room to grow past 1200hp or am I better of buying a different one at that point?
That crank is now over $1K. Hard to do when I got over $1K in rods and pistons all ready man. Can't find a forged crank for under $800 now anywhere. Any help?
@@randybastyr1154 it depends. Single or double spring. The more spring you have the more rpm you can turn. Also if your running hydraulic lifters you can't turn as much many rpm because they weigh more and can fail at high rpm. So what I'm telling you is Brian tooley makes some good springs but depends on set up. Duel spring i would push 8,600 rpm max with LS base with a good crank and oil system
Can you guys build a combination and have it tuned to where you’re not working on it all the time and still lay down a number??? I love the power of a turbo but don’t like the idea of wrenching on it all the time after a pass like you guys especially when a person is not that knowledgeable
All I hear when you're talking is need to rob a couple bank's!! All them parts you're listing are pretty pricey. Then we got to factor in the budget for all the turbo set up!! Then the transmission and rear end set up to hold that power reliably!! Making big power on a budget is unrealistic!!
Why only 150? Brett isn’t thinking about how that engine is already being pushed to the limit before the 150 shot but honestly it really would depend on how hard your already pushing compared to what you have extra done or what it is really. I’d try a 50-100 shot first and then see what’s up but it’d be cool to see what you have going.
What’s the point of putting a high dollar cam shaft in and not spinning it higher. Seems like your throwing money away. Unless your cam is trashed. Is it really worth the money? Well I guess for the sound of a cam hammering is worth it to me.
Good video John you are the only one of the drag racing full time RU-vidrs that has done this even Garrett hasn't done this. You are giving back to the community and help out a bunch of guys with their first builds guys this is top notch information you should watch this video a few times. I can't hardly believe how good it is it is John! JK! 🦅🇺🇸🦅
I’ve never built an engine but wanting to get into it. Just been a bolt on guy with my Procharged C7 Corvette (only makes 570 whp, still stock fuel system). Anyway I’m confused on the 4” stroke Crank? Doesn’t that throw everything off as far as using stock heads and then you have to adjust for cam size, piston size etc? As a newbie you make it seem like any stock block can take a 4inch crank and still use stock heads and “basic” rods/piston. It’s my understanding the 4” crank will now push the piston higher/lower and you have to account for that distant change? Or are you just hoping it increases compression without slapping the valves?
its easy, stroke it to 413, lunati 4.100 crank, Manley 6.125 h-beam tough rods, JE 4.00 flattop pistons 11.1, 823 LS3 heads, decent cam, yt roller rockers, and stick a 98mm turbo and walla 1600hp thats what I did
I’ve heard you say that it would last 3 plus years at 1000 hp. Suppose you were more conservative and just boost to about 700 - 800 hp? Will it last longer? Also, does the 5k estimate include machine work? Any info from anyone will be appreciated. I just sold my sbc and I want to LS/Turbo and this will be my first.
What about the stock oil pan causing oil starvation due to high G's at high rpm sucking the pan dry or because all the oil is forced to the rear of the pan under hard acceleration?
best video of the channel, if you ask really good info budget & -1050HP ain't no joke! good work man, you should do a video what fuel system & intake & turbo etc.
Ok first off I have watched a few of your videos and I find it very informative. I recently had to replace my motor I'm wanting to rebuild it to put back in my suburban. My question is how can I bypass the 100 mph speed barrier. I grow up workings on 350's this is my first time to rebuild an LS1 motor and would very much like to see what my Big Booty Judy can do on a track cause she's got some real giddy up right now just as she sets stock. So any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time.
valve springs? wouldn't you need valve springs too? In my research i've heard that the beehive ls7 valve springs are good enough, but the iron block motors definitely require an upgrade (or so i've heard). In my 5.3 build i'm just finishing up, super budget style, one of the only areas i really dropped cash on was the valve train. Comp NSR 'drift' cam, trunion bearing upgrade, stock lifters, ls7+ beehive valve springs kit with retainers/seats/stem seals. I spent more on the valve-train set up than i did on the car this motor is going in, and the motor combined. Was i mislead? are valve springs not really required? My goal HP is in the high 3's, low 4's. Other aspects of the build include a flat-top 4.8 piston swap, thorough cylinder head cleaning, ls6 intake and injectors, and a custom tune. With the cam i mentioned, is my goal realistic?
ya this is like 1000-1200 reliable hp where you can do normal maintenance go to the track run high to bottom 8s depending on weight and then go to mc Donald's and then drive home you could probably run 1500 out of this setup or pretty close too but then that just a matter of time before you need to replace things
Be careful with those high volume oil pumps. On a stock 6 quart oil pan if you're going high rpms it can pump the pan dry with the high volume pump. Rather do a high pressure, not high volume pump.
Getting a new daily soon and will be parking my 02 2500 with an lq4, gonna rip out the lq4 and build it myself while getting someone else to do the transmission, as well as the rear end gearing. Definitely borrowing ideas 😇 not going super crazy with it, so I'll be just building the 4l80e it has, planning for maybe around 600-700, really just to have some fun with
Great video. Quick question and I noticed you didn't mention doing this so maybe that's your answer, but: Is CNC head porting worth doing at this level? I'm building a similar motor (with a CNC ported LSA and LSA heads so the ports are already pretty big) and I'm hearing both sides of the argument. I just can't see spending $1G just to gain 15-20 hp. Thnx!
do u need trans brake for 6.0 stroker with twin turbo n nitrous. pro 1 dart heads, callies crank n rods, diamobd pistons, 297 comp cam. 4l60e finish line transmission, 3600 yank stall. any info would be appreciated. also what gear do i need in rear end for 1/8 mile
Most plus fuel pump? Never heard of this are there any good or do you really need four of them, also what spark plug in an NGK. Also what would you recommend stock piston how much boost how much timing on E 85 to live. Twin 76/78 's terminator 105mm
