The intro is still my favorite part of the whole video "why does the ford get a bus engine, II want a bus engine" Would be hella fun to see that on a t-shirt 😅
These and Stanadyne injection pumps use a cam driven design, while modern fuel systems can pressurize fuel well into the tens of thousands of PSI. Rebuilds are mostly for injection balancing and increasing available fuel, but won't help much for injection tip pressure to atomize the fuel as finely as possible. Injection balancing vastly improves engine reliability however, I'm hoping he gets the new injectors balanced too.
Can't wait for the NV4500 rebuild episode! I was thinking about tackling the rebuild on mine on my own so it will be nice to see it done right so I don't screw it up 😆
Great content very informative. Thanks for including the rebuild at Power Driven Diesel of your injection pump. Big fan of the skilled trades people you are friends with and work with to make these projects come to life.
Also Rich, if you happen to see this as well, the engine builder did a copper coated gasket? Are you familiar with this amd does it actually do any good? Might would be a good thing to discuss one day in a video. Also the different injection pumps such as from 8.3's and so on.
@@nicholasbearden5316 copper gaskets are a little bit more forgiving, sometimes if you slightly lift your head you can get away with doing a complete retorque and not having to pull the head to do a gasket. personally id rather just do a mahle MLM gasket or just straight up fire ring the head and be done with it but thats just me
Man this is an awesome build I can only dream of ever having enough resources knowledge and tools to do this stuff having a custom cummins powered truck is my biggest dream
Yeah Rich got me wanting a cummins powered chevy with this truck finally was able to build one alittle over a year ago and have drove it 15k so far 12 valve nv4500 still has push button 4x4 love it ready to do some upgrades to it soon maybe no probably not but a guy can dream lol ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-rh-zgLMryrk.html link for mine
mechanical diesel pumps are precision engineering and genius mechanics . amazing lifespans too . Good build this one, I not a Chevy guy but the older trucks are pretty nice looking usable tool and this one going be extra sweet daily user :-) You going be driving into town just for fun of it almost daily lol .
Hi from uk rich👋 always great watching how you overcome and engineer your problems when they arise 👍 and you have a great team round you and personally thanks to all of the crew who support you in what you achieve👍💓👍 was also a great watch and description for p pump on the moving parts and how they work all the build of pump with the balance etc at end (thanks for their time too for recording and description👍💓) hope all is well thank you for your time and be safe see you👍👍👋
That was incredible to watch that pump being assembled. All this custom tools, the level of accuracy, ALL THE TINY PARTS! Love to see a skilled tradesman at work.
Looking so good. Thanks for the info in the NP4500, might come in handy with the future compound turbos on the 5.3 72 C-10. Use what I have, but upgrade for strength.
I have a 2002 dodge 1500 that I also bought in 07 it was my real first truck. Never got rid of it even when I had another truck. And yes it did a lot for me and deserves a second life. I have a project in the works can't wait tell it all comes together. I ESPECIALLY like the Holley digital dashes you use in the f tree kitty. Makes me hopeful to have a modern look Inside the cab . Great content that gives me good ideas thanks.
Thanks for inspiring so many You should do a tool update video. What’s working for you and what is not What you wish you had And just gotta comment on the parts chaos organizing you do. It reminds me of how I keep parts. Lol. I started using ziplocks for the little parts. A sharpie too. Supply chain issues keeping the piles sitting longer too many to keep track of and CRS (can’t remember stuff) starts to creep in
I know nothing about diesels, had no idea a p pump is a small engine! Wow so interesting. Who the hell was ever that smart to invent something so detailed ? Just amazing!
The P Pump is a reason the 12 valves last so long. 285k on mine and haven’t touched it ever. Still starts first turn of the key (except in the winter buts that’s just diesel things😅)
Would love to see a full tear down and rebuild on the NV4500, I have one in a 1992 Chevy C1500 W/T that lost 2nd and 3rd synchronizing ability, and going to rebuild soon
Hey Rich, I’m loving how this engine is coming along and I really enjoyed seeing what goes into a rebuild of the P pump. I have a few questions though,. 1, What sort of cost is involved in getting the pump rebuild done? 2, What would it cost for the compound turbocharger setup including the turbochargers? 3, What sort of power can the southbend clutch kit handle? Thanks again for a very informative and interesting video 👌🏻
It's looking good. That engine and box seemed to have a crank/input shaft misalignment issue. Evidenced by the amount of red dust present in the centre of the flywheel and the flogged out spigot bush. The bell housing or the block may have a burr or a highspot of some sort that needs a bit of filing. Otherwise, the alignment dowel on the left side of the block might be a tad short and not positively engaging with the bell housing. cheers.
I had the same issue with my nv4500 in my old 96 k2500. The input shaft thrust bearing and pilot bearing said goodbye and caused some serious carnage to the transmission. Not exactly what you want happening when you're on your way from alberta to new brunswick haha! Other then that they are a great transmission
Love the Canadian content!! Thanks for the infotainment. Just a question, (being that I don’t know anything about diesel) What would the cost of this particular build be? Just wondering is all.
Diesels in general are expensive, depending on what you do (if you have a shop do it) it can be low thousands to the tens of thousands. It's expensive but it's fun and worth it
Greetings from Belgium and my Georges 🥳🥳🥳👍🥳🥳🥳👍👍👍
Great build! While I do like the white colour, however, in my opinion panting the heads and exhaust in RED could give you an extra 5-10 hp! Just saying! Cheers
Look into banks twin ram intake there pretty sweet. U tube channel Greg A as a first gen that as one on it. Well then you have looked at them. Love the videos.
Thanks, I like youtube channel. I’d like to know all the steps to swap a P7100 into my Cummins 24v early 2004. You showed us how to do it in a 2001 Cummins but I guess it is not the same for a 2003 or a early 2004.
