Building a Beautiful Basic Humidor

@@brianknarr2056 I drilled a hole with a forstener bit that was the same diameter as the bottom of the hydrometer. The hydrometer has a gasket around it that makes for a snug fit and a lip around the top covering the hole I drilled.

Does that lack of finish also apply to the outside of the humidor? Or is that specific to the inner wood (cedar)?

No sir. Just the interior. Preferably cedar or cypress.

@@MrMrwoody1 other woods are safe to use as well such as American red cedar which is what that is I used and mahogany is also acceptable. Spanish cedar is not the only acceptable wood for humidors but is the most commonly used. Thanks

@@hankswoodshop With respect, red cedar is indeed "safe to use," but it's never used in a humidor due to the strong smell it can impart on one's cigar collection. You'll reduce that aromatic problem by using either spanish cedar or mahogany--both quite stable in the humid interior environment, and both very easy to work with. (I'm interested to hear how the cross-grain captured bottom has affected your miter joints over time--hopefully the movement didn't bust them open and the brad nails held!) Also, 98% of a humidor's purpose is to create a humidity-controlled environment and the amount of movement between your lid and box aren't going to hold any humidity in. I hope you take this in the manner it's meant--to help you on your next humidor!

I used hillman solid brass. I found it at my local b&s hardware store. I just painted them black and used a wire brush to show some of the brass under the black.

I will agree with you on that. If I had known this video would do as good as it has I definitely would’ve spent more time on editing. I do appreciate the feedback, however I’m a woodworker not an editor so I’ll try harder on the editing next time.
