We loved this video and so insightful of you to show exactly how to build in and around the window! Thank you for sharing it with the world. Keep creating videos and we will watch :)
Dude super sweet. I'm in the process of building a chicken coop with pallets and had been watching some videos of cobins being put together & am going to be finishing the coop project with cob. Awesome video & love seeing your chickens doing tricks 😂👍
Inspiring! Thank you! I think I'll at least make a cool-off house dug in earth with lower rock walls for our nasty hot summer highs! Still too little shade for my 1-year old flock. My inherited coop has a metal roof, so I like your roof trim expansion.
Oh yes totally ! and a house too ! Or an oven, a beehive, so many things ! Wider walls for sure, and connected too is better as mentioned at the end of the video.
Hi, I didn't understand what your own percentages were for Clay-soil/Straw/Sand/Water. Also, it looked like you may have used dead or dry tall grass cuttings just from the ground (rather than proper straw from cereal crops). Is that correct? Thank you in advance for answering, if you can. :]
Hello, yes sorry it's a bit confusing in the video. Basically you should have between 15% to 50% of clay in your cob, excluding water and straw. The rest is sand mostly, gravel, silt, and some organic matter is ok too. You can do the jar test to see your soil composition and if you have to adjust it (see book below). As for the fiber, I did use straw, but you can also use dried tall grass. I'd recommend reading the Cob Builder's Handbook, by Becky Bee, it is freely available as a .pdf on the internet. Very clear, illustrated, and she goes over everything. Thank you !
@@niquya Hi Yannick, thank you so much for taking the time to reply. That is so helpful, thank you! I know and read that book a long time ago. So it is good to know I can find something that works that is written down. 💐😊🙏🏼
Thanks Sypha ! I had troubles keeping predators away, because they are free ranging, no enclosure, and the chicken coop has that entrance always open cause I'm regularly away for days. I could have used those automatic screens triggered by a timer or by sunset/sunrise. Some of the chickens ended up sleeping high up in the trees - rain or moonshine - where they felt more safe... build a comfy house and they sleep outside !

Hi Jade, you mean clean the inside ? I left the floor as dirt, not cob, so I can rake easily. I didn't weatherproof the walls. You can make them more resistant with e.g. linseed oil, lime, but to my knowledge the best way is with long-enough roof overhangs (longer than mine...). Thanks for the question !
