I didn’t know it was you who built that! I remember going there twice in like 3 weeks and the second time the ledge was completely different. I was so confused
Hahaha dang seeing this finally made it click! Bros videos taught me how to caulk a clean corner a few months back and now I get back into skating and I'm soaking up all kinds of game from his other channel without even knowing 😂
Wow I work in construction (iron works) and have to deal with cutting and using similar tools like in the vid and I never imagined seeing that with something I really enjoy like skateboarding makes me wish I could fine something I really wanna do with the rest of my life..cool vid!!
If you tip the can, it will spit. Keep it upright. The more vibration the better. Mixing aluminiumsilicate makes the concrete stronger and smoother. Actually watering the concrete daily to let it dry slowly is the best to avoid any cracks, especially in warm weather.
I was also curious about the extra aggregate. I thought aggregate was a cheap filler and does not strengthen the concrete. Anybody know? I could be way off here.
@@phillipschmidtpottery concrete without aggregate is just mortar. Mortar is cement + sand. Concrete is cement + sand + aggregate. Mortar isn't as strong as concrete. Strange but true.
thats so awesome man yall created something so many skaters are going to get to enjoy! i really love skating diy parks and spots because rad dudes like you put in the time effort and sweat to create
Great to see others building spots. The guys over in my city built a whole park underneath an overpass and we’re always making more additions. Turning nothing into something beautiful.
@@nikkimelay5293 I guess technically you have a point. But the major benefit of a "wheel" barrow is the mobility!? So any type of bucket, or trough would have done trick....in this particular instance!
@@user-dl3pe3nr1s A wheel barrow is easier to mix with a shovel being open and near hip height and then place with a shovel. A wheel barrow will make the clean up easier since you can move it away from the form after words and rinse it off. A bucket will force you to need a cement mixing paddle and drill and then it's cumbersome to place the concrete from it. Extra tool=extra work. A trough will be easier to clean up and is compatible with shovel mixing, but it will also be closer to the ground forcing you to do more lifting and it has to picked up to be removed from the sight whereas the the wheel barrow can be rolled.
BEAUTIFUL job, GREAT DESIGN IDEA! I love watching D.I.Y videos almost as much as I love doing it myself. I LOVED seeing the stoke after the first 50-50 too. Even made me smile. Now I'm inspired and motivated to finish a 9ft long slappy curb I've been procrastinating on making for a while. I'm making it from "puck-board"(the stuff they line hockey rinks with, but thicker. 3/4 inch to be specific) I have no idea if it's even going to work. I got a lot of it, so if anyone reading can think of anything skateable that'd be cool to make with it, I'd love to hear about it. I was thinking about a mild rainbow ledge/rail(?9 inches wide?) like they have in snowboard parks. I already made a 6ft long, 18 inch high, 3ft wide box. It's accurately called the Slip-N-Die, so you can imagine the slip factor. I really wanted to make a Jersey barrier/wallie-wedge, but after(me and 2 others) trying to wall ride a 4X8 sheet leaned up against my shed wall..."the idea lost wind" ...and I lost the titanium dab-nail I was holding when I tried the wall ride. Did it myself.
You should do more video like this it’s interesting to see what different creative things can be built for just Skateboarding and sure appreciate watching it on your channel.
Best concrete DIY tutorial i've seen. I use diamond polishing pads (400 grit is a good) and water to get a polished finish on ledges. A few coats of driveway sealer all over the block is good too, helps prevent frost damage and helps it dry out quicker.
Dude I don't know why but this side of your page just made my whole year. I've I've been skating my whole life and here in the last few years I've came to starting my own flooring/carpentry business. I watch all your carpentry/ labor videos for when I'm at work. And today I just got the idea that I wanted to DIY a skate ledge somewhere. And just happened to come across your DIY Ledge video. In it just dawned on me that you are a carpentry / skater too as well. I don't know made my year though.
Interesting details I picked up about concrete from this. Answers questions about why some skateparks are built well and others, not so much. It's always in the details.
Nice bit of DIY, great work! When you use the vibrator, put it in fast, then pull it up and out slowly. This will help pull any air bubbles up and out of the top, so you don’t get all the little bubbles spread over the sides like you did. Also really dope idea with the 45 degree thing, but the rebar isn’t going to be too stoked when it comes to cutting it
That was a really nice job!!! I cannot see a logical way to deslike this video. A few dudes building a nice ledge and watching over their local skate spot. That was so inspiring!!
Nice work! I'd love to do something like that but haven't the confidence or found the right spot. I like that it is quite wide but if there was room I'd go a hand-span wider so that you have heaps of space in the middle to use for manuals without having to land on the the waxed up sides (assuming they will wax both sides). Going to be visting Vancouver next year so i hope i get to skate it.
I had watched this video a few months ago, today RU-vid recommended it to me and I’m glad about it, really pleasant to watch. Greetings from México 🇲🇽✌🏽😎🔥
This is was sick!! Ledge looks fun. Going to be building a two ledges at a local foundation spot that i had recently found. It's well hidden so hoping it stays for a while. Much luv Ben!
You really are a carpenter, nice to see it. Using your tape as a scribe, and cutting with that circular saw was so smooth you didnt even hesitate once with your cut. Love the oxylight bags too man
That looks awesome! I kind of stink at doing more than a couple ledge tricks, but I'm going to come try this out in the coming Spring! Or, if the weather is mild, during my Christmas break in December. I'm about 8 hours away from Van/Richmond, so I just need at least a three day window of good weather!
It's gotten pretty chunky with a couple unfortunate Bmx chunks but I am going to grind it down again when the weather gets better. It should freshen it up nicely.
I can't imagine how sick it is skating a ledge you just made. makes you think how sick it was for the guys who created burnside and other major DIY skate projects
nice, man. That aggregate really grinds! Consolidating and rounding the edges really helps, too. Good save with the grinder, though. -We do what we can with the weather/etc.. And brilliant idea with the angled edge...
That’s super cool. I want to do the same thing at my local park. My brother does this sort it of thing for a living so we’re good to go. Just need permission. Nath, uk. 🇬🇧
