Building a Custom X-Ray SJ-736 with NFC Carbon Grips - {1080p}

In this video I will be building on a NFC X-Ray SJ-736 blank that I cut down to from 7'3" to 7'0". This is a heavy power rated blank with a max lure rating of 1 oz. On this build I have found my favorite grips to go along with my favorite reel seat, the NFC Carbontex Soft Touch Grips & the G2 Razor Carbon Reel Seat. I also did a different, more complex version of a spiral wrap on the guides which I find to be an improvement also.
List of components are listed below for text reference.
Blank = NFC X-Ray SJ-736
Grips = NFC EFX Carbontex Full Grips 9.75"
Reel Seat = American Tackle G2 CCT Carbon Razor
Insert = American Tackle G2 Carbon Insert
Foregrip = American Tackle G2 Carbon Foregrip Sleeve
Guides = Fuij SiC (K Series) 10+1 (Spiral Wrapped)
Hook Keeper = CRB Arrow Dropshot

There's 3 different carbon fiber patterns. Myself personally would have arbored the reel seat and had direct contact to that blank itself. I really dig the thread too

Yea, I can understand that, and I believe I did arbor the reel seat on my xray spinning rod. I'm interested in trying the Pacific Bay Exposed Blank reel seats though.

Nice build… how are you finding the rod now after using it for a year or so? I’m thinking of getting an x-ray blank to build up too

Nice job. Was wondering a few things actually. I thought you said you were doing an acid rod “spiral guides on it” if so was wondering how it throws. Another thing is I’m looking for a blank for my 3/4 oz spinner baits for pike. Was wondering if you throw them on it ever.

It cast OK. I probably prefer regular wrapping for casting. It think it would throw 3/4 oz spinners with no or a very light trailer.

How's the inserts, does it decrease sensitivity compared to a standard ecms seat?

I don't know, it's hard to compare because the G2 reel seat has a huge open contact area and ecms has room for like one finger. But, overall an insert won't be as sensitive as a bare exposed blank. Some blanks you don't need an insert for the G2 Carbon reel seats, it all depends on diameter and where you want to put it. I had one X-Ray that wouldn't of needed one if I didn't cut 3 inches off. I built another X-Ray without an insert and just put a carbon fiber wrap underneath the reel seat.
