You have crazy good skills. A tip on cutting thin metal with a jig saw I learned while building a Teardrop camper is to place the metal on a sheet of 2" foam board. It will support the metal and allow to cut into the foam board.

Hey Jer, great project really looking forward to seeing it completed. Just one comment, you're really scaring me when you have your loose hair so close to rotating machines! I was an apprentice some 40 odd years ago and I can still see in my head the pictures we had around the shop of a young guy who had been partially scalped where his hair had gotten caught in a machine. They were there as a constant reminder to us to always where a cap or something to keep hair away from the rotating parts. I also know of someone who caught her long hair in a buffing machine while polishing her dads car, and suffered a partial scalping, so you even need to be wary of hand tools too. I'd hate to see anything like this happen to you, or anyone else for that matter. Please take care. Cheers Peter..

Top notch build and incredibly well executed. I have all the tools and equipment to make this build...but I lack the time and will to execute such a thing. There's a lot of work in this thing and for me I think simply buying one might be more cost effective as I can exceed the cost of my time with my day job. There's a company out of north or south carolina that makes and sells these at a very reasonable price. I truly appreciate your time to make this video. For those more hardy souls that want to build this, this is the video to follow. This is an amazing build video series.

Welcome back! I’m always delighted to see a video from you. In this case, I have made a Pentz designed cyclone, though with much less skill. Mine was probably the first metal project I did. In a few spots I gave up on solder and caulked with liquid nails. I’m interested to see you build the blower next. I just bought my impeller (the major cost of the project) and used PVC ductwork.

Try using larger wire with lower current. You spread the current over a bigger area and it spreads the heat out as well and more material filling in a gap. Usually results in fewer burn throughs.
@Jer_Schmidt
@Jer_Schmidt 2 года назад
Like I said, the current was already as low as it goes…
@oldtimefarmboy617
@oldtimefarmboy617 2 года назад
@@Jer_Schmidt You also said you used the smallest wire you had. Large wire, high current, burn throughs. Smallest wire, lowest current, burn throughs. Big wire, lowest current, not so easy to burn though. Think of hitting something with a hammer directly and the impact it will make, the damage it will cause. Now think of hitting something with the same hammer, with the same force, with a 6 inch by 6 inch plate on it and see what impact it will make, what damage it will cause. You spread the force of the impact over a bigger area and you will cause less damage. You spread the same current over a bigger area and have more material to carry the heat?
@Jer_Schmidt
@Jer_Schmidt 2 года назад
Ok, thought you were saying to turn the current down and use larger wire, but I guess you’re saying to use the same current and larger wire. Sounds counterintuitive, but I’ll try it.
@oldtimefarmboy617
@oldtimefarmboy617 2 года назад
@@Jer_Schmidt I know stick welders are different from wire welders but the principle is the same and should work the same. Works for me with sticks anyway.

Beautiful job Man !!! Cudos to Bill, hes been an isparation to professional selling vac. systems after testing ones in the market they all upgraded one way or another. 14 gage is tough with a mig welder wich I have. No shame in using rivets for some of that build!! I'm upgrading with aluminum scrap stock I've been saving all rivets. 3M 5200 Marine Adhesive will keep two halves of a very large boat in one piece about $23.00 per tube , To remove it you need to heat it up. Cheap acrylic calking would be easire to remove later. ... and using a ball bering to mash the holse for mounting bolts like a punch makes it easy-er. Great Job wish I had the time..wouldn't be as nice but would work.

Obviously it's a moot point now as you are done with your project. However for future reference the band you wanted to attach to the bottom of your cone? You could have hammered just the side that was toward the cone and thereby stretched it to match up perfectly for your weld. Your final solution was also nice though.
