Hello and welcome back! During our absence, we've put together a video that's a bit longer than usual. Rémi has built a dovetail log cabin from A to Z in just two months. We'll be showing you every step of the construction process, including the dovetail walls, rafters, insulation, and roofing. Grab a nice cup of coffee, get comfortable, and enjoy watching the work of an entire summer unfold. Our aim is to inspire you to pursue your dream construction projects while you relax.
Here's the link to the online course on this exacte cabin:
woodmagecanada...
This course includes a step-by-step guide, a plan, all the necessary cuts, a 3-hour RU-vid video, and much more.
Enjoy !!

Excellent vidéo sur le sujet! Et presqu'en français... Hi H... Grand merci. Beautiful work matey love the musical logs and your chisel work is beautifully accurate, I’ve followed about 20 builds now and your videography is superb just superb. May I offer a suggestion that may assist you in your chinking, I noticed you used a plastic bag, there is in the baking industry large piping bags made in canvas style material that you could pop in a metal nozzle that can be as wide as you make your gap eliminating the need for a dirty plastic bag whose only destination is land fill and a second pass as shown in your vlog, these bags would obviously need washing at the end of each use but I hope this will help you in your endeavours It truly is a beautiful piece of crafted home. This is my first vid of yours I’m now going to watch your playlists and any vids I can find of yours not put in any playlists. And yes I’ve hit the like and subscribed,

I have never seen this technique of putting a spacing board in between the logs of a log cabin. I thought that keeping the gap between the logs and filling it with the clay/straw chinking was very important to keep moisture from getting stuck between the logs if they were touching each other so the logs always can dry out completely. I thought this is why so many log cabins last for 200 years or more. So how does this wood on wood sandwich technique affect the longevity of the logs over not just decades but centuries? Also, does your kit explain how to cut the dovetail joints freely (without using a jig) so that a more rustic cabin without uniform logs can be built? I want to learn how to build a more rustic version of your beautiful little cabin. Thank you for sharing this adventure. The sweet potato looked very delicious! : - D

Using a dry wooden board (here, it's important that the board is dry) helps to maintain the humidity level between logs at an acceptable level. It's the same principle as air-drying beams; spacers must be placed between them, and these spacers are dry to absorb the moisture coming out of the beams and release it slowly. My training does not explain how to carry out your type of construction, but if you have never made a dovetail joint, my training can certainly help you understand the basics. After that, it's just a matter of making small adjustments to each log. Good luck with your projects :)

You'll have to do the math for each log. Here's a good starter, and he offers a document showing how to do the math for a variety of log sizes. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-GoaJijmTbNQ.html

We have been looking for log cabin builds with dovetails, not many good ones on youtube, this one was excellent, nice channel just subbed. Did you dry the logs in the solar kiln or how long did you wait to use them to build?

@remiandnoemiethewildcrafte7503 6 месяцев назад
Thank you so much :) No the log was pretty green, it’s why there is a gap on top off the window and door. If you build correctly , you can totally build with green log and beam and it’s usually a better idea 💡:)

Also good to know: Shutters Energy-saver- protect the Windows with traditional shutters. For remembrance: I am a facility manager and 30 years in building houses homes and office buildings also expert in “Clima-stuff” concerning healthy building. Everyone how was on vacation or lived a time in Scandinavian countries, in Germany Austria Switzerland or other country’s know, how many house owners in colder areas protect there windows from cold, from storm, from wild animals or thefts. We call them “Fensterläden” they are out of wood and “work like a second window from the outside”. Windows like many use in the US or CA are not allowed in Germany because they have not good “isolation capability’s” in Germany it is law to “safe heating energy” so we must use windows with 3 glasses so called “thermopen window panes” between the glasses is a special gas with power to isolate. All 3 glasses are perfect tied- so no gas can escape. But there are windows that have 5! glasses! Bad windows cant keep the heat in the room and the cold presses into the room. So you can lose hour by hour expensive heat and the goal must be “to optimize the window” To gear up such window protection cost not much but the cost will be returned very fast. Also it looks traditional with such a shutter in different colors. As lesser wood must be prepared for the heating, for the oven, as better it is. Some don’t think about the work of preparation of the wood. I love houses with the best isolation that is possible. Even with high energy saving windows- the cold presses 100 centimeter into a room! And when the window is not perfect put into the walls, then much more loosing of heat and cold bridged and later fungi will fellow in that part of the window. The humidity in the houses looks for the coldest places- that’s often “cold bridges” and then the dew point comes and fungi grows. Fungi are a danger for the health. Can produce cancer, allergy’s and lunge problems. Shutters are cheap but in cold days (special in the nights) they work as a second isolationpower if they are build correct. 2 or 3 centimeter strong wood, build like a real door (google in German Fensterläden and you will find inspiration) If they are build right they build a “air-line” between the window outside and the cold. It keeps the cold away from the window and the heat in the house. It looks cool-traditional made, you can close them from the outside and the inside. Here videos for self-made wood protection in German but I think that there must be many in English. On YT: “GAH-Alberts: Fensterladen selbst bauen” or “Fensterladen mit elektrischem Antrieb“ there you get an idea. PS: A mudroom is also a cool solution for saving heat in the wintertime. In Germany we call them "Windfang" its a smale room that protects the inside of the house from the wind cold and rain.

I am an older men :-) and I love to give information out for free. I love cabin live style and IF I could build one in Germany I would do it but we are not a free country only rich can build what they wont. We have such communist regulations that you are not allowed to build a cabin on or in your own forrest. And you mus accept that other run over your land or drive with bikes over it because of the communist doctrine. The rich build a fance around the forrest and a fence cost hundrets or thousends euros ...@@remiandnoemiethewildcrafte7503

Love and greetings from Hamburg in Germany! I am a facility manager with carpenter backround 30 years in the buis. Of course high end building appartements blocks or malls- office buildings. My grandmother had build a traditionell log house with stone foundament in the year 1925 She hide herself in the holocaust in that cabin with 4 rooms. Cabins are my hobby... Yours is wonderfull. The greenhouse perfect the foundament very good. I like on floor cabins and I dont like high ceilings because the heat rises to the top its energy lost. (Northmen on YT and his "the brith of a wooden house" one of the best He has alot traditinall technics for learning by watching Insolation with wood dust never using fake insolation like spray foam (cancer and fungi) or rockwool- real wool is healthy. I like more the traditionall space system with all rooms on one floor because "of the age and times of possible handycups" or so. There are more then one solutions of stepp support in times of multiscleoses- kickbacks (a friend of my mother had it for a long time) 1: Build strong handrail stairs! And a safty first system with catching rope like the tree climber or roof builders use them for the case of falling. It catches you in a second and you can not fall deep! MS is tricky and weak muscels can let one fall from the stepps.. 2: stair lifts are cheap and used on the market. Its the second help to reach the first floor. 3: Room elefator like the lifton is expansive. My handycup oncle bought one to came from the 1 floor into the second. You can buy them used! In the end it can be that you need some more space and build 2 rooms for you and your wife. Long term the best way. New foundament and logs for a sleepingroom and a creative room! The girl needs also more space in the future! It canbe that you need more protein. 3 times a day. Its good for muscels nervs and bones, if you can get Vitamin d take it speak with the doctor. I take 5800 units a day. Its good for the bones system... Dont give up! Frank

I love the way you work. There is still a time of freedom to live in nature even with not so much money. The illness of your wife is diferend and must be considert. I would build a water toilett into the bathroom :-) And dont forgett: Tattoos can destroy the nervsystems. I grow up in the red light district the biggest in the EU. (Hamburg Reeperbahn St Pauli) Chemicals or other kind of "colour" has nothing to do in a body. They made forensics with tattooed bodys and they found tattoo material black stuff in the lymph nodes. They where full with this poison! Please consider this because of the illness of multi-auto imun...Paint is a poison that the imunsystems has to fight. I am not tattooed even if I was a red light worker. But I got also an autoimun illness called "Morbus Reiter" a form of rheumatism I was blind on one eye 33 years ago I could not walk...1 year hospital. I overcame it by the grace of god. You offer just the right amount of verbal instruction and non-verbal video clips. Keep up the great work and I’ll keep watching.

This is amazing, dont let the negative people get you down. Ive never understood people complaining about something they got for free. Quick question, what was the product you sqeezed in for chinking?

Thank you so much for your beautiful comment :) sometimes people project their sadness into the world, we just need to give them some loving thoughts and after that we can continue our day in happiness :) The chinking is name: “Log Jam “ if you want to read about it :) ✌️
