For a while i've wanted to do something different with our video backdrop and decided to make better use of the bigger wall in our studio space.

You should paint the pine dowels red and glue a string in the end of each so you can pretend it's dynamite....

While this idea is admittedly hilarious, painting may also allow the wobbly dowels to be tighter.

I've got a massive sheet of Oak leftover from another job and was tempted to try this with the oak, or is that a bit of a waste?

Looks great! Those pine boards from B&Q, really any wood from B&Q, you have to pull out A LOT to buy the ones that aren’t warped because most of them are. You could go with some ply for something strong and flat.
