Building a killer 4.8L Texas Speed LS swap step by step guide. So I finally rounded up the correct parts to fully build and swap in my LS engine into the 1949 Chevy Styleline Deluxe coupe. I started this LS swap from an old junkyard engine that I thought was a 5.3L but it ended up being a little 4.8L which I'm fine with the 4.8L engines are great little powerplants and can make north of 450 horsepower with ease. I picked up a Texas Speed camshaft the Chopacabra which should sound amazing with it's famous chop at idle. I had my machine shop go through the cylinder heads and install a set of Comp Cams valve springs to handle that lift of the cam. I also replaced all the valvetrain with new components along with a new oil pan, oil pump and all new gaskets. This is only my second LS based engine I have assembled so I'm in no way a pro LS builder but I had fun building this one and look forward to more LS engine projects in the future. If you guys have any comments on how I built this engine make sure to leave me your thoughts. If you are new to the channel make sure to subscribe to watch the engine come alive in the 1949 Chevy. Leave me any comments and give me a thumbs up if you are liking the content and the direction this project is heading. See you guys on the next video and thanks to everyone for supporting the channel.

And by the way, I’ve watched like 100 of these videos and yours is by far the nicest .. it’s the most informative and you’re explaining it while you’re doing it, which is very easy to comprehend for people that have issues with books so I feel like it was very easy to learn what you were conveying. Thank you.

Nice job. Only suggestion I have would be replace the welsh plugs (freeze plugs) while you have it out for the cost of about 40 bucks it could save you 1000's if one fails or had an issue before you got the motor

Do these have freeze plugs?
@atomicspeedgarage
@atomicspeedgarage 11 часов назад
@ChevyARt15 yes there are plugs in the ends of the cylinder heads and on the front and rear lower areas of the engine block none on the sides like the old school motors.

Highly recommended to install a .100” thick washer under the oil pump bypass spring on stock pumps. 👍

I highly recommend the correct part with no washers. Melling #10355. Do it right the first time and don't compromise with the life blood of the engine!

Order an LS7 longer dampener bolt, it’s long enough to fully seat in the crank and use as an install tool.

I don’t think the video was long at all. I think it was very informative. I guess if you wanted to shorten it, you could just do like three out of eight repetitive processes when it comes to like the bow training and what not but in reality, I gained a lot of knowledge from this video so I think it was perfectly timed personally.

please don't make the mistake of cutting the windage tray. It's moronic! Before you comment get educated.

I’m curious with the oil pan why don’t you just cut around the pick up tube only and you still have the window tray over the front bearings of the crank or whatever I feel like being on the opposite side would be enough to secure that in place where you would just need to cut closely around the actual pick up to I mean I can be wrong. I’ve never done it but I’m about to do one. I think that’s what I’ll be doing with mine, I’ll let you know if it works out.

Let me know if you like the “bread box” intake on the 4.8 especially with idle/cruise tuning.

How do you know the parts you order are correct for the motor?

I’ve worked In the automotive parts industry for 25 years and I’m an A.S.E. Certified tech. Most of the Gen 3 engines 4.8 5.3 valve train parts are interchangeable you just need to do your homework before putting your combo together.
