I used mostly materials I already had lying around to build a cart to hold my TH36 Atlas Lathe.

Around the time you were doing that , I was unloading a larger Honden lathe off a trailer by myself and it almost tipped over on me. It is nice to have a helper with heavy toys!

After watching listings in my area for over a decade, I finally scored a 12" Cratsman/Atlas lathe yesterday. Your stand looks like the perfect solution for my needs. I really enjoyed your technique for using scraps for your drawer bottom. I'm going to have to keep that in mind. I've also never seen that style of caster. I'll have to try to find some.

Nice stand. If you use wood glue on the joint it will add stiffness. 👍🏻

I hope there will be future vids on this lathe, especially on the work you need to do on it :D Got access to exactly the same model, and it is rather tired, so I will likely be working on it someday soon. I thought it looked familiar...

that is a very nice lathe! I have one that is very similar to that, its a champion blower and forge lathe model 9L which unfortunately is very rare, so i cant find any replacement parts for it, so im in the process of building a counter shaft mound and motor mount, and attaching those somehow to the stand. It's really great seeing old lathes like this, and people using them, they are works of art!

Excellent, looks very rigid indeed !. I'm curious if being on casters it may tend to want to move around when the motor is on .. if so consider just cut some 2x4 to form some wedges you can kick on the gap between the floor and the frame, that will hold it, and they are easily kicked out again when you next want to move it

Looks like you hit what you were aiming at. Guessing from the two assemblies you said would need servicing, you've got some excessive backlash to deal with?

Nice job and great find! I've been looking for a metal lathe but they just don't seem to materialize in my area, so I bought a new one. Two questions: Where did you get the casters and how is your lathe bench holding up under that Atlas after a year of use?
@AmyMakesStuff
@AmyMakesStuff 3 года назад
I haven’t actually been using the lathe much, but I mean, this bench is going to last a long time. Casters were from eBay, tons of sellers basically selling the same thing.
