Building a Living Space w/Hidden wall bed in Freezing Temperatures | RV Renovation ep. 4
Yo! Its been a while since my last episode so I appreciate the patience with this one. In this episode, I'm trying to build a living space with an integrated hidden bed inside of the wall while dealing with freezing temperatures and snow storms. This bed is a bit different from a traditional style Murphy bed because of the strange shape of the wall that I'm dealing with in my RV as well as the fact that I'm building bench seats with storage into the base of the bed and housing all of the plumbing and electrical components inside of that bench. Hopefully you all enjoy this video and I hope you all have a happy holiday.

You have a great talent that’s for sure. My dad could do the same thing, just look at something build it and it would fit. It was incredible. He’s no longer here but I remember everything he built. Keep up the great work. 👍🏻👍🏻

Wish I could afford his talent..I have a no build van but a nice raised bed with storage would be great..this old achy body struggles to turn a screwdriver these days as well as zero talent on the building skills other than cheap bookshelves, lol..mattress on floor n 2 plastic stands for kitchen stuff..bags for clothes..have spare tire inside van which hogs up space where I could put a small dresser..but van has lots of rust so trying to find a new place to put tire outside bc mechanic says I prob can't put it back up under van..but..hes kind of an ass..I looked under van and I don't see issues where the tire goes so...???

I always enjoy/appreciate your direct and no frills approach, as well as not layering a bunch of goofy and annoying free music over the times you’re not speaking. The camera angles and sound recording only seems simple, it is not, and makes an appreciable difference. I saw that someone in the comments section complained about the drilling being too loud and I sure didn’t find it that way. Take it from me, I’ve had a lot of dental work in my life so I’m an expert. Besides, if construction sounds bother this person they’re here by mistake. Freezing Temperatures. “Dealing with frozen glue is always cool.” Oh, I can’t be the only one who heard that! Clever man.

So funny.....I was remarking to my 92yo dad a few years ago: "how come nobody uses a Murphy Bed design in a van/RV? I want a TEMPORARY bed- not a 24/7 impediment in my way." As for comfort, I've considered a variety of foams, etc.- but decided to go w/ an air mattress/8", using the onboard air pump to quickly fill it at night. I never wanted a permanent bed in my van; it eats up alot of real estate- that I was only using p/t/8hr. LOVE your can-do attitude and mad SKILLS; kudos!
@Dualex_Builds
@Dualex_Builds 2 года назад
I’m glad you like the video. It’s very rare to see Murphy beds in vans and RVs because of the shape of the walls in tiny spaces like these. Murphy beds are easy in a house where you have square flat walls with lots of space. It’s very difficult to get a Murphy bed to work with an oddly shaped wall. Even if the wall is curved it’s usually never at a constant rate. It’s very random. I’ve been wanting to put a Murphy bed into the last 4 rigs I’ve built but this was the only one I’ve been able to make work simply because of the walls. It also depends on what else you’re building into the space as well

Love your work and creativity! Thank you for sharing. I do reupholstering as a hobby, and was taught to stretch and tack my fabrics, then let them sit for several days because they often stretch a little. I'll go back and smooth them out before stapling to get a nice taught surface before stapling, then remove the tacks. Less chance of wrinkles later.

I agree....but I guarantee that the heavier wood products he used has now exceeded the GWR & GVWR rating fir the RV axle and hitch. Both WILL break under that much weight. I guarantee it. That is why RV manufacturers use thinner, lighter building materials. First bump he hits, the hitch will break and the axle WILL crumble....on both his large RV and the little one. And you NEVER leave the RV on the tires if you stay somewhere for longer then a few weeks. Never use the RV tires to stabilize an RV. Bad. Tire rot and warping of the axles can occur. It is vest to lift with the Stabilizer Jack's and put concrete blocks under them, lifting the RV off the tires just enough to rotate the tires. Then you can cover them to protect them from harsh weather. Living in an RV that sits on the tires is like living on Jello.....the RV jiggles. NO lie. I am a full time RVer. I have seen it all....😂

Love your videos! A tip for cutting foam: Check out thrift stores for an electric carving knife (for roasts, turkey, etc). It cuts through foam like a dream. Also, see if an upholstery store will sell you firmer foam, like the black foam they use for some electronics. Then cover that with a memory foam topper.
