I think if you welded braces on each tine, like the ones on the outside tines, but longer, would help for strength and holding material. If you wet the hay and drive over it It comes up in sheets ;) That's how we do it with the pallet forks ;)

As someone who has had to turn huge compost piles like yours by hand, I would say that your fork is a success!
@bobcruse512
@bobcruse512 Год назад
I composed for more than 50 years. It took a few years to learn the dos and do nots. I highly recommend a compost thermometer. One can be had for less than $15. The pile needs to be at least 150 degrees to kill the weed seeds and parasite eggs as well as other critters that enjoy a lukewarm pile. The pile should NOT dry out. Every time the pile is turned it needs to be sprayed (water) not soaked.about the constituty of a wrung out sponge. It's best to turn the pile every two to three weeks even when it's covered in snow. If I followed my own afore mention advise, by spring I would have sweet smelling, weed and disease free black gold. ,

I certainly agree about the dedicated unit, easy to hook up. I have a set of bolt on debris forks and they work great for me, just have to make sure they are tight or they can fall off. Needed in a pinch with free shipping and they arrived 4 days later. Like yours a lot better and you don't have to worry about them falling off, mine have ...........awesome work, jb

Hey there. Great part you made. You could have kept them long but you should try hardening them. That is what we do here. Put them in fire. Then in water and then in fire again. And then big points. Then they wont bend anymore

I think it turned out pretty dang good myself. I agree that a pointed end like a bale spear has might work better and maybe a couple less spears...? Hard to say, you'd think the more spears the more/better it would pick up. I was trying to remember how many Pete (Just a few acers) has on his. It seems he just had like 4 or 5 but I might me wrong. Anyway, I think you did a hell of a job.

@jjohnson2553
@jjohnson2553 Год назад
"not sure what it isn't doing well enough" Find some video of a factory made fork and you will see the difference. A good fork will slide into/under the hay effortlessly instead of pushing the pile along the ground like a bulldozer as it struggles to penetrate the pile in order to lift it.
@4knanapapa
@4knanapapa Год назад
Maybe some backhoe teeth will make the tines come to a better point
@harveystephens6115
@harveystephens6115 Год назад
That mod made it much better Smaller or round and sharp pointed tines probably be the best, but be a little more likely to bend but will get under hay. Nice job. Enjoyed Why don’t you make you a hay ring Make a good project video. Might get you a tube bender to bend and make your circle. Or out of 1”conduit and 1/2” rebar

I have a titan attachments manure bucket,I works freaking great.. With that said it is 6 foot 10 tines,the tines are round pointed and changeable. I have bent a tine or 2 kinda the nature of the beast.Like you just push down on a block and straighten it out. I have been able to get enough manure, urine soaked waste hay In/on the bucket it will pick up the rear end of my 45 horse loader tractor.. A little refinement and you'll have a very useful tool.
@bige.3474
@bige.3474 Год назад
Instead of shortening the tines, you should have put cross bars between them. You actually really still need them. That's how I built a grapple bucket that I'm very happy with.
@berryb745
@berryb745 Год назад
the build is great, you need to round off the tips more, not so blocked off,like how you would whittling a stick, rounding off the prongs the entire length will improve it immensely.

I wonder if having some tines longer and others shorter would work, sort of like the teeth on a excavator's bucket break up the soil and the rest scoops it up? Even though this implement didn't meet your expectations, I think it could still be improved to do the trick. Weld every third tine tip back on to extend it, see what happens. It might allow you to carry a bigger load. Might not work for reaching the back of the compost bin though. :( Thanks for taking us along for the ride!

I think it needs gussets on the tines and shorten every second tine by 1 third and it will likely work
@CountryViewAcres
@CountryViewAcres Год назад
I thought about the gussets, but I knew that would add a few more hours, so I didn't do it. I also considered alternating the tine lengths. I think my biggest problem, is I built the frame the same way a pallet fork would hook up to a quick attach. And it doesn't tilt back as far as I want. I should have put the quick attach plate on at an angle, so it could tilt back more.

Looks like you got it working as fine as most. We had a Ford 2N with a tined trip-bucket when I was a kid and yours is pretty close but has the advantage of quick-connect. It loaded a lot of cattle manure. Tines were more narrowed on the sides from the tips back to the rear wall. Some were bent too, lol. They may have had an inverted 'T' cross section so had a little flange on the bottom of each tine, but it's been decades since I was around that tractor.

@haroldhaugaard410

If you start on the tip and taper on the top side of your tines going back in the same direction as your 45 degree taper, but change the taper. I drew a full scale side view and started the taper at 1/4" at the tip and went back 4" to the top of the 1 1/4" square stock. I believe the taper works out to be around 14 degrees. I think you have a good design but the taper needs to be quite a bit more. Good luck.
@matthewwarfield4302

Nice try Evan! Just a few thoughts... 1) Are clapped out skid steer buckets too much money in your area? Would make a good start for future implements if you don't care about the cutting edge. 2) Cut back every other tine. Still gives you the depth and "holding capacity for the load. 3) Try dragging with the tines down instead of pushing. 4) Get or make a bucket level indicator for your loader. Looking forward to see what you come up with!
