Great job on the build. I did the same build to a JD 322 about 6 years ago. If you search John deere 322 backhoe you'll find it. After 6 years its still going strong. I did a foot pedal hydro conversion at the same time. Hard to work an fel and move forward and backward without a third arm. Again, great job!

Nice job guys. I've got PF's frontloader on a 1983 Craftsman GT18 with B&S opposed twin it's still going strong after almost 10 years. My budget was a bit tight so I didn't build the backhoe, but now you got me itching again.

Those controls resemble some old backhoes and some case backhoes and some people refer to them as piano controls. People who use those for many years often develop huge knuckles. John Deere and some other brands of backhoes came up with conversion lever sets for their backhoes so you take the lever set off and replace it with a different lever set for different controls and the valves are never moved or changed. You just pull the lever set off of the backhoe and replace it with a different leverset and the connecting rods/linkage would go to different valves. You get at least three different lever sets for the same set of valves for Cat, John Deere and case. True story: I was on a construction job and the rental company was supposed to send out a John Deere with John Deere controls. The backhoe that they sent out had case controls on it and they had to send a mechanic out to change the lever set. It took the mechanic about 15 minutes to replace the lever sets, but they hooked up one lever wrong and I had to fix it after they left. Intead of having a plus + pattern it had a slanted X pattern to that lever. I had to move one connecting rod to fix it. Our company had to back charge my repair to the rental company. 😀

I built the front end loader using PF engineering plans with my Yamnar 1500. One thing I noticed is these tractors simply aren't heavy enough for practical front end loader use and lack power without having 4x4. Just my 2 cents. Sold the tractor with loader and purchased a Skid.

Well done! I am weighing the options of a small loader backhoe for my Wheel Horses or to just revive the John Deere 1010 ‘hoe I picked up last year! It seems like your mount does flex the rear of the frame quite a bit. Could you tie in the loader and backhoe frames for more rigidity?
@ThinkDIY1

Yeah it flexes more than I want it to. I will strengthen it up a bit. I need to raise it up about 4 inches. I get stuck driving over uneven terrain, lol

So far so good, I have around 12 hours with the the backhoe and about 28 hours since I rebuilt the engine. I have dug up and repaired my sewer line. Replaced my basement window well. Buried railroad ties to edge my driveway. Dug a pit to roast a hog. And dug up 4 or 5 tree stumps, max size was about 8 inches. Its something I dont use everyday, but when I need it I am 100% glad I have it!

I was a class A excavator operator and see a few tuning tricks I would love to try. Also when your learning to dig the deeper you go the slower you curl the bucket for maximum excavation. Excellent work, I noticed other videos of this same Backhoe being demonstrated ad they all did what yours does, Talking about the "slop or play" as the boom moves from side to side. Is this caused by to much play in the bushings? or perhaps not enough leverage at the cylinder connection? Or a flow restrictor? I wonder what changes to the design could be made to fix this issue. By the way I think your build is the nicest one I have seen so far; so I am not criticising your work in any way. Excellent craftsmanship.

This Hoe looks like the one from PF Engineering. I watched a video no more than 2hrs ago on an old cub cadet that was exactly like this. So anybody can build this exact model. Wouldn't be surprised if the loader build came from there too.

looks beautiful. Just cant figure why you would put all that effort into a project and then use single action valves when you could have done it with 3 spaced out to allow the side action. yes it would have been about 2-3 times the cost, but you spent far more on the steel and now that I think about it, you would have saved from less connections and the response would not be as jerky since the common bleed line would absorb much of the fluid stop and start momentum

Hi, I am planning to build this back hoe setup on a Bolens in the next year or so. Could you guys go over how you did the hydraulics? I have had these plans since may. And want to hit it! I and going with joystick for controls but wanted feedback on gpm pump used for this build u have an older 1977jd 316 with 16hp Kohler and plan on rebuilding my front mount diy loader to mid mount with backhoe. Yoh said hose size are to small what would you recommend 1/2"? What gpm pump did you use? Single stage or dual stage. What psi are you using? And do you find it has enough power or is it lacking? I ha e 40plus h on 2 to 11ton excavators and I am scared il never be happy lol Also if you were to start over would you pay a company to cnc cut the parts? My plasma is an junk amazon I do t think jts up to the task
@ThinkDIY1
@ThinkDIY1 4 года назад
We used an 8 gpm pump. I think 1/2 inch would be better suited, (for the backhoe) I really have to feather the controls to get fluid movement, maybe its just my controls. Once I increased the psi at the controls it seemed to help. Its just a single stage pump, probably around 2000 psi, though I have never tested it. As far as power, I wish I had a little more hp. 16 that you have would be perfect for this. I have come close to stalling the engine while digging. I've dug a new window well for my basement, buried railroad ties to line my driveway, dug up sewer lines, and dug up various tree stumps (biggest was about 8in in diameter). for tree stumps i really have to use the teeth to chop the roots before i can really dig them up. The loader on the other hand is perfect! It has lifted and carried everything I have thrown at it! I absolutely love this for what it is. A lawn mower that is now a loader with a backhoe, and is 100% Hand built. If I have the chance to build them again on a different size tractor I would. 300 or 400 series. the hydro transmission would be super nice, lol It would be nice to have the parts cnc cut, but no I would not have paid anyone to cut them for me. My plasma cutter was only $300 shipped to my door. Our next project is a DIY cnc plasma cutter, we will definitely give the cheap plasma cutter a work out!

Going with larger rams where possible will slow the jerky actions. I put 3" rams on both the main boom and crowd arm. Using Grizzly rams, I had a limited choice on sizes. They now show 2 1/2 X 10 in the lower priced rams for the bucket and stabilizers. How does yours do when swinging right? Video made it look like it might not do well. Mine is on a 1973 16 HP MTD Garden Tractor.
