Man , I have watched 30+ custom kit builds and No-one comes near your paint job and end product..This was an A class instructional video to boot...carefull , well arranged and lit camera angles etc..In all respects ,from enviroent , build , production and sound track this was all A+ dude..keep on truckin more excellence.
Beautifully done! Very nice result! Piet Mondriaan style looks very good on a guitar, I painted my cheap acoustic guitar in a similar way in 1986. Regards from Holland.
Beautiful tribute to Frank Lloyd Wright! I have a cheap Strat that will be getting this treatment soon. Just to as beauty to my guitar wall! A piece of ART!

Nice idea. I did not think of Frank Lloyd Wright, but you are right. He influenced the De Stijl movement.
Oh wow you really had bad luck with that kit. Awesome end result regardless though. Very cool! Lovely playing as well. Regardind the kit: I build three Harley Benton kits already (SG, Strat & Telecaster) and have three more lying around here post Christmas. None of them had such major issues (i.e. dot allignments, wide open grain/pores or dark spots on the neck) They are by no means high quality in terms of the materials and the soft wood of the body can be a pain in the butt if you go for high gloss finishes, but for someone who likes to build stuff and create his own guitars without having a big workshop they are a really affordable starting point.

Great work! I hope to try the same or similar. I have a few questions about your process, if you don't mind. 1) What type/grade of abrasive did you grind down the paint edges? What about prior to applying lacquer? 2) When masking for the black stripes, did you slightly overlap the colored rectangles? 3) Did you use standard painters/masking tape, or the type with extra adhesive to prevent bleeding thru the edges? Thanks!

To be honest I do not remember every detail. 1.) I used wet sanding paper for the paint but I am not shure about the grit. I think something about 400. You will probably find better hints on the Internet. 2.) I did not leave space for the black stripes when painting the colored areas. So the stripes are always overlapping on both sides. They cover the border between the fields. 3.) I think I only used standard tapes and painters. The most difficult part are the edges, where the tape is always overlapping. So you probably will always have a little bit of bleeding. You can correct a bit of it with carefull sanding. After all I did som slight corrections with a permanent marker pen. But if you do this, you should check if the paint is going well together with the marker. Best is always tintry out things on a piece of wood before doing it on the guitar. Besides all this, my best advice is to carefully fill the pores in the beginning. This did not work out very good with the method I used. Today I would suggest shellac with pumice powder (I hope the translation is correct). But this also depends on wich paint you want to use.

Grit 400 (probably) is used after every new layer. At the end you will use more stages of grit. e.g. 400, 600, 800, 1000 or even higher. Just look for some tutorials about finishing.
Habe die "Tele" gebaut, vorne hellgrau seidenmatt, hinten und seitlich Mahagoni gebeizt- sieht edel aus und spielt sich prima. Ich nutze sie mehr als meine PRS.
Dude, put some proper Fender kit in (picks, trem, new electronics, tuner & tusk or graphene nut), and you can sell these babies as custom Fenders for God knows... But seriously, I really liked this video, got some great ideas for my own diy kit build. I’ll probably do an urban digital camo/white sunburst.
