Just a suggestion,but I would have made the lid wider at the sides to stop rain from blowing in ,and also puts some grooves on the front for the birds to cling onto while climbing up to the perch.
Great work! Just a note for any future nest boxes you build, birds can get their feet caught in the chicken wire inside the box so latest thinking is cut some grooves on the inside of the box using a router.
I've seen Eastern Rosellas nesting in a hollow wall with an entry hole no more than about 5 or 6 cm wide, so if possums are a problem, the entry hole could possibly be a lot smaller.
Hi Roger, I just looked at your video of 4 years ago. I wondered how you went with the Eastern Rosellas? Did you end up getting some visiting/nesting there? I’m in the process to build one myself for Eastern Rosella’s - same, dont see much of them, just a couple - so Im going to give it a try. Jo Scott
Hi Jolanda, no sadly. I also think I made a mistake with the entry hole being too big and not ensuring that the base of the box is hinged so it can be opened and cleaned out yearly. Also someone pointed out that using chicken wire on the inside for the birds to climb out is dodgy as their feet can get snagged. But all part of the learning process..... 😀. I'll have to come up with version 2...
