We've had several people ask for some tutorials/demos of the Mutant Machine. So here's a complex, glitchy, noisy patch with a detailed explanation of how we put it all together, using the Mutant Machine and a Stillson Hammer MKII sequencer.

Great video, gave me a bunch of ideas to try

Martin Gore uses these on his instrumental solo albums and that's what got my attention, but I'm very impressed. VERY different from my 808-alike drum modules I already have, think they would work very well in conjunction. Thanks for this great video!

Wow this would pair up fantastic with my BIA and the other major drum modules.

GREAT video. Would you recommend this for drum or say, mutant bass coupled with Manis iteritas? I feel like digital oscillators always sound thin. Anyway, thoughts...advice?

Thanks! Hmm that's a really hard one to answer! I suppose it is quite subjective 🤔 they're pretty different creatures! I think that either would complement some digital grit from another type of module very nice in a rig. I can say that the most striking difference is that the Mutant Bassdrum is very good at making bassdrum sounds, and can also be coaxed into making warbly basslines. In a way it is a bit limited compared to the Machine, which is sort of a "jack of all trades" and can do a whole lot of other stuff. It can definitely do bassdrums but maybe that's selling it short a little due to all the other possibilities :) Does that help a little? Let me know if you have any other questions. PS I'm just about to receive a long awaited resupply of Mutant Machine (they've been out of stock for awhile). They've got a new updated look which I'll be announcing on the mailing list and elsewhere when they arrive. Cheers and have a nice day Does that help a bit? Let me know

Hexinverter Électronique Thanks for the reply. I believe that does help. Is the MUtant Machine 100% Analogue-including the noise? And what will the new ones look like? Any hint, mate? :)

@@aidanvinum no problem, happy to help! Yes indeed it is completely analogue. The noise generator is inspired by the 909, and is made with CMOS logic (not using a microcontroller). That's about as digital as it gets in it. :) check out the VCNO if you're curious to know about the noise generator, since they share a "heartbeat" so to speak. Different implementations but similar method of creating noise with those logic chips of yesteryear. Ah sure, if I were to describe the new look in words, I'd say it is more like Mindphaser. It's black paneled and has similar knobs and updated artwork. You can see some preview images and renders of Mindphaser for reference on the channel here or website if you've not seen it yet! Hope that helps!

@@hexinverterDOTnet so if I already have a Noise Engineering BIA that can do 1-2 percussion sounds, would you get the Mutant Machine or 2-3 Mutant drum modules for a small setup to handle bassline and percussion sounds?

@@GuitarsAndSynths if it were me I might go for a couple of other modules if that's my whole kit. The Machine is very versatile and can seem as though it's multiple independent drums - when carefully modulated - but at the end of the day it is only one trigger input for percussion. In that sense I'd recommend it more as a third or fourth module in a percussion system, rather than a second. Does that make sense? That being said, I know people do a tonne with just one of them! So really it's down to how many available trigger input options you're happy with.

What is mutant machine
@hexinverterDOTnet

It is a complex drum module, capable of all sorts of drum sounds and, with some modulation from a sequencer, crazy drum sequences! Watch the video and then check out the webpage to find out more: www.hexinverter.net/mutant-machine
