Building A Plane
Episode 1
Firstly - apologies for the sound - I took the wrong mic with me. This will be sorted for future episodes.
Please bear with this episode. It is longer than I originally planned, however, I didn't want to shorten it to the point that it would detract from the experience. The intention is to capture the entire experience of building my own plane. Future episodes will be shorter but I just couldn't find the right place to split this episode into two.
Episode 1 starts the night before the collection of my kit and follows me on my journey to collect my new Skyranger Nynja LS 600kg kit from the factory to bringing it back to my home base where I will be building it.

Thanks a lot Matt. Yeah there’s not a whole lot on “what to expect” so I figured an honest account might assist people in their decision making. I’ve just finished the first day of the build today and it went very much as I expected! Thanks for watching! This first episode was long and tedious but I really wanted it to be “warts n all”

Very watchable, watched the whole thing. Before you got the kit, did they say anything about waiting lists. I think when I spoke to them at Sywell LAA rally they said 2 years, but that could have just been factory built as I was asking about that.

Great to build your own aircraft, I have been involved with building other peoples aircraft / restoration and I am now about to get fully stuck into one all for me. You eyes at one point may me laugh as they looked shocked. The rule of building is enjoy the journey and look forward to the destination.

Thank you for watching! I really enjoy your videos! Thats brilliant - what are you building? I must say - I am thoroughly enjoying every aspect of it. It is already fast becoming a "core memory" for me. Yes - I was a bit overwhelmed at first and I am glad I got that across. It was a genuine reaction too as it hadn't really sunk in what a task I had taken on until I got there to pick it up and the first part of the build, I was very nervous but now I am thoroughly enjoying it.

@@LetsGoFlying I am currently waiting for my wook kit to arrive from Canada but already made a start with the tail feathers and a jigs, for the all wood Fisher Youngster biplane. SSDR. Have been involved with others builds and my own restorations, I know the feeling of am I really going to have to do all that, just do one task at a time. A bit like eating an Elephant, one fork full at a time, before you know it you reach a mile stone and it gives you drive to go forward, then the next thing you know its finished. For me I am addicted to engineering so as I finish one project I already have another in mind. You will do okay and there are planty of others out there who will give advice and better still encouragment.

I'm really glad I found your RU-vid channel! Just in time to watch you start building your dream! I'd love to have one of those planes! Perfect with room for 2 and full enclosure, nice looking panel and hopefully room and useful load enough to carry some camping gear or whatever for some back country flying. You mentioned an inspector coming to look things over just after you picked up your kit? Are they there to make sure everything ce with it that is suppost to or some other reason that early on? Thanks for posting your progress!

Hi Nick, what options did you go for? I'm just sorting out funding for my kit and hopefully will be ordering the 600Kg Nynja shortly so will be watching your build with interest. Had a long chat with Paul at the LAA rally a few weeks ago and can't wait to get started.

I'm seriously considering going for one of these, others on my list include the groppo trail, maybe the new sonex high wing if is out next year, but the Skyranger seems to be the most time efficient and cost effective, this series will definitely help me make a decision. Here in the US we have less restriction so an auto conversion engine is possible (cheaper), as well as custom wing tanks, but not sure I want to do the extra work!

Ahh amazing. Well I’m going to post regular updates - much shorter episodes probably twice a well when it’s underway covering as much of the process as possible. I hope I do the project justice and you find it helpful 🤞

What we're the other aircraft being considered? Curious as you memtion the 600kg rule which wouldn't apply to this as its an amateur built aircraft under the LAA or BMAA. Sub600kg apply only to factory built aircraft
@LetsGoFlying
@LetsGoFlying 2 года назад
I was considering the Sherwood Scout and the X'Air Hawk. The Nynja is already tested to 600kg and the new microlight weight restrictions have increased from 450kg to 600kg. The Nynja I am building will have a maximum take off weight of 600kg when I have completed it. It doesn't make a difference if it is factory built or amateur built.
