As someone who works in the lumber industry, if you go out of your way to get clear cedar, you'll be paying a significantly (underscore, underscore, underscore) higher price and you'll be waiting a looong time. My suggestion is just embrace the knots, they bring character to the wood. And they'll be the difference between paying 3-5 dollars a foot and paying 15-25 dollars a foot.

I lived in Finland for a few years and built a few saunas with friends. Saw dust makes for excellent breathable insulation in a dry place like Finland.

You build a few saunas and still, you didn't see anything peculiar about this particular project?

Normally here in Finland we don't put lights in the ceiling. That is the toughest place for them from heat. Also keep in mind that the steam can not be let out and I think you punctured the foils where you put the lights.

great project. is the room between the wooden wall, inside, and the aluminium barrier foil a problem in terms of condensation/moisture??

Very cool. I am interested in knowing the cost of building and the number of hours it took. I own a JNH Lifestyles sauna and would like to compare the total cost and time of building it to my own experience, which was a total of $1900 delivered and only took 25 minutes to set up?

I’m building a sauna in my basement that will be 6.5’ wide 6’ deep x8’ high.. I’m gonna be using the huum mini hive 10.5.. I will also have a glass wall.. I’m wondering if my 10.5 kw hive mine heater is gonna be enough. Do you think a hive 12kw would have done the job in yours (instead of the 15)?

I've done a load of reserach on building my own sauna and this video was by far the most helpful. You got all the things that a lot of folks don't do - venting on an exterior wall, air gap between cedar and vapor/foil by installing sleepers underneath. Well done, my dude.

The cost seems like a lot, but I do think having a permanent sauna is a lot nicer then a kit. I wonder what the pre-pandemic price would have been.

Great looking sauna! Building mine right now - have been watching your build. Ordered the aria vents too - thanks for that tip. QQ - what size brads did you use to nail the clear cedar to the furring strips?

High ceilings are a waste in a sauna basically when you're sitting on the highest bench the ceiling should be a few inches higher anything higher is a waste of money in materials and electricity to many cubic feet and all the heat is out of reach but money doesn't look like an issue for this guy baseboard in a garage? ...... please 😜

Great stuff! I would leave a gab between first panel and a floor, so the air can go to air gap between panel and aluminium foil, air will dry the condensation water if there is some, sorry for bad english :)

Nice work! What is the distance between ceiling and upper sitting level? I have build a few saunas myself too and noticed that 110cm is the perfect distance. And as much stones in the stove as possible, if it's a wood burning. I have 250kg of stones in my stove and you only need like 50C temperature to get the perfect experience.
@DaveyStruggle
@DaveyStruggle 7 месяцев назад
I’ll need to measure that. But they are 8’ ceilings. Which I would have done 7’, if I was to do it again. Stones really hold that heat in well. I think I have about 550lbs.

Question(s)- why did you do tile flooring? Or at least not put heating in the floor? Wouldn’t that make it a colder ground? Also, was a there a particular reason you put the tile direct to the concrete foundation instead of floating it? The flooring is something I’ve been going back and forth on for a while now, and I was originally going to do a raised floor and insulate beneath and use the same wood as the walls so the material and temperature is the same throughout. But the tile option is a good one to, but I’d be worried about getting the floor up to temp so it’s not cold on your feet Either way, looks amazing. Well done 💪
@DaveyStruggle
@DaveyStruggle 9 месяцев назад
Tile floor mainly for the look. The tile stays about 85 - 95 degrees while sauna is in use. The cool floor doesn’t bother me much, but my kids love sitting on it during our sessions. Good luck on your build. 🫡
