This was incredibly helpful! I am in full support of what AnyType is trying to do, privacy-wise, but the learning curve has been very steep so far! Thank you for explaining this clearly and concisely.
Thanks, hoping to see more Anytype videos as the tool continues to be developed. I'm also hoping to figure out how to set up ability to sync across desktop pc, android, ipad...
Syncing should be pretty straightforward... I believe the default is 1 GB of cloud storage, but it's tied to your account, so you should be good to just get it on multiple devices and log in to all of them... I think XD
Thanks for making this so quickly! I have found that Anytype has “challenges” with Objects like Notes, as in I would go and set up Relationships for a set of Notes on one page (and for example add on for Area assignment) but when I go to that actual Area page I designated and try to query the Notes by that Relation, it does not offer those custom fields. It is very limited to Tags and such. Hopefully Anytype will fix this soon, otherwise using Anytype more flexibly is a true challenge.
For sure! I realized I had slacked on content for a bit, so the request got me going XD Yeah... querying by relation is something critical I'm realizing, and I'm glad I'm not alone (although not glad it doesn't work for you, of course). Tag grouping would also be cool, since all tags for every kind of note show up as options. But I'm glad you're testing it out!
found your channel while installing anytype won't be using it only to configure my anytype, but also my obsidian (won't switch from obsidian to anytype) nice video man
Can you share a template of this second brain you built? The one major problem holding me back from switching to Anytype is the lack of pre-made templates available anywhere...
why why why are sets not added to my dashboard page? I add a set to my dashboard page but when I return it's disappeared. I'm really getting more and more frustrated with this program
You may creating a new set when you try this? If you type /set, and you want it to appear fully, choose the "inline set" option, rather than just "set." If it's still being a problem after that, it's probably a bug.
I recently started using anytype (my daily driver is obsidian) and it was super buggy, I was trying to create a database of books and what to read but it didnt let me search with CMD + f and this was super frustrating, is searching database an option? I then tried to copy a database block and couldnt, is this just me?
Oh, good point... yeah, I don't know how good the search functionality is.... Copying a database block should be possible - it might be rough in terms of explaining how correctly to do it, but I think if you highlight and copy it, it should work...
Why choose Anytype in 2023 vs Obsidian, Heptabase for example? I dont understand the point to dont have whiteboard/canva in 2023. Bit sad, because i like the background of anytype.
Anytype is free, which is a big win over something like Heptabase. It's also offline, which is better than something like Notion. And it has databases, which Obsidian requires lots of plugins to do. I don't necessarily believe that there's one end-all be-all tool out there, but I do think that Anytype is high on the ranking of tools in general, given how many criteria it meets.
@@pianomacpowerOne huge thing that I think the good thing in notion or some other apps is about the sharing function. The aesthetic is great and so on but the beauty of it is to share if I want to. Anytype is great with all that features but only offers to share it in a pdf or other rigid format which doesn’t shows any of those links between my pages and knowledge. It becomes kinda awkward if I want to share something to others. I’ve heard that Anytype is considering to add a sharing function but there is no news in the near future of it though.
I'm... still working out a system. I really like Anytype, but I feel like it's not built for me. I don't really like complex databases for storing notes; I much prefer plain notes. I guess, I'm a little overwhelmed with all the different note-taking stuff out there. While I'll keep showing off what Anytype can do, I'm hesitant to commit myself to a system right now.
@@pianomacpower I understand this maybe you can take a look at capacities. It's very similar to anytype but in a way its much less complex but at the same time as capable as anytype
@@InducingMusicYeah.. I've looked at it, but it lacks offline mode, which is the big killer for me... I just had an outage yesterday, and was really glad I could work with all my info XD
@@pianomacpower Same thing here, been looking for a Notion alternative for a while now, and Capacities and Anytype were the 2 main options I'd finally narrowed it down to. Not going to lie, I was leaning towards Capacities (do I *really* need it to be offline...) and then the outage happened and I was like "Yes, yes I DO!" Capacities basically made up my mind for me; so nice of them. ^^
As far as I can tell, you'll have to pay for additional cloud storage past a certain point, but nothing more. For now, storage is free, and getting extra storage is also pretty simple.
