Today we build the subfloor for a 10 square meter shed. This isn't just any shed, it's Chef Paerau's shed.

An inspiring book with lots of ideas for a variety of garden buildings The instructions are detailed and clear with plenty of photos. As a beginner ru-vid.comUgkxlg1H4xyrEBR03VoimQHdPx6Ebmzrr0nO I was looking for a manual that would walk me through the basics with detailed instructions and this book does just that. The book caters to both the beginner and more experienced DIY enthusiast with builds varying in complexity, from straightforward projects such as the one we've completed, to more ambitious builds. Absolutely on trend, with instructions on how to install solar panels, green roofs and sweet chestnut shakes - It's given me lots of ideas for future projects!

When levelling stumps I like to use the old water in a clear hose trick. Pick your level on the first stump, bang a nail in and bend it around the hose and fill the hose until it reaches the set level. Because water always finds its own level, when you hold the other end against the other posts it will show you where your level line should be. Also really good for taking levels around corners where lasers can't get to. Nice vid by the way, Pommie Tim.

I'm no builder, but I still don't understand why timber posts in concrete is a good idea. I get that it'll still outlast the average home owner... but wouldn't using steel stirrups (?) be just as easy and last twice as long? I also get that with decking, you'll have easy access for replacing posts when replacing the decking timber in 20-30 years, but not so much with a shed?
@mickeybowmeister1944
@mickeybowmeister1944 4 года назад
In NZ we have a specific way of doing timber foundations, the wood is treated to H5 level and should give 50 years durability. One of the reasons we put timber encased footings is due to seismic lateral restraint requirement. An anchor pile for example must be 900mm deep x 400dia with a 125sq Senton post embedded. Things are changing, some designs I've worked on are adopting an Australian system called Surefoot, this is a galv metal footing with poles that are rammed into the ground at angles distributing dead loads and preventing uplift.

Ak City Council 10 Sq Metre measurement is termed in the regs as "Floor Area", not structure area, or it was that when I built a shed here in Auckland. Just think of all that area covered by the walls. I went right up to 9.98 sq Metres FLOOR AREA.
