Hi, thanks for commenting. I’ll have to a show and tell video of the van soon. I fabricated the mounting frame myself, most people just use a couple of lengths of plywood. Mine is bespoke to my bikes, you can figure the length and width out by placing the bikes on the ply and just measuring the footprint. I used a sheet of 12mm phenolic ply but normal ply is much cheaper (I’d also suggest using 15mm or 18mm. I bought the sliders off Amazon - fitting them is fairly easy once you see them, they have plenty of holes.
Hi Bruce, thank you 😊 I drilled, screwed, and glued the joints. I also screwed on some angles gussets, and a couple of plates in the corners, just to make it really secure. It’s been good so far, just over a year and with a lot of use. If you look closely in the video you can see the gussets and corner angle plates.
Hi John, thank you 😊 I used 1200mm rails. I could probably have gone longer than that but they’re fine. Obviously a longer rail would bring the bikes out slightly further.
Looks really good mate. Nice work. I'm considering making one myself. How do you plan to fix it to the van floor out of interest? I'm considering mounting a Unaka low profile mount to 8020 so I can move the fork mounts to suit other bikes. I'm planning on creating 2 trays and ideally I'd like to be able to carry 5 bikes in total. Although I suspect that may be very tricky for space.
Hi, thanks for commenting. There are holes in the base of the steel frame for 6mm countersunk screws - I’ll screws these into M6x13mm insert screws that are screwed directly into the plywood floor. It should look nice and neat. Most people use plywood battens and 90° angle brackets, and screw directly into the floor. Being able to move the forks sounds good. You could also build a full width single tray to accommodate five bikes. Cheers Neil

Thanks you 😊 I think it was 15mm. Couldn’t get 18mm for love nor money at the time and had to go with what was available. It’s not cheap stuff that’s for sure. Worth it though 👍
@@chasetherainbow never been any problem with hex board had about 8/10 sheets delivered weekly for the last 6 month so not sure why you had a hard time
@@modevans3569 we were still having all those post-covid supply chain issues in the early part of last year. I couldn’t get any 18mm anywhere at that time.
