This is the 8th and final video in the "Building a Slide Trumpet" series. In this video, Art buffs and lacquers the instrument and then a friend comes to the shop to make some music.

The Brass and Woodwind Shop The Copper Bell really makes this Soprano Trombone look quite snazzy in contrast w/ the Slide, & the Handle helps w/ moving the slide. Bass Trombones often have a Handle attached to the Slide to make it easier to move.

I've been following your videos on the slide trumpet and it's inspired me to start doing instrument repair and customizing .I'm an auto body technician by trade so I'm familiar with welding brazing MIG welding TIG welding etc and the choice of tools you use are very similar to tools in paintless dent repair and I do have an older baritone missing a tube on it. So I think I'll try to fix it in the near future thanks for your inspiring videos you are a true technician.

Awesome job! I’m gathering parts for a copy cat! I’m having a hard time sourcing a slide with a small enough bore, though. And my bell came off a cornet with a shepherds crook so it’ll be unique that way!

Try looking at antique malls for old trombones. You will probably be able to find one that is so bad that you will not feel bad about cutting it up.

Thanks for the tip! I found an old one the other day, friction fit slide, brass tubes with soldered stockings. I believe it was stamped “wizard” brand. But they wanted $275 for it, which is more than I wanted to spend for this project.

Nice job! I was wondering why it looked so strange then you showed the bass trombone where the entire slide assembly disconnects from the bell. Why did you choose to make that a rigid soldered connection?

I soldered the bell because the end of the bell had quite a larger bore than the slide tube. If I would have made a collar, it would not have a tight fit and would rotate while it was being played.

I have 2 trumpets with really bad tarnish all over. I'm going to hand buff them to a shine and relacquer. I'm curious, what solvent did you use to clean off the buffing compound? Would a bath in dawn dish soap and water work before lacquering?

Denatured alcohol or degreaser work well to clean the buffing compound before lacquering. Donot use dish soap because that will leave residue.
