This week I show you the other half of my life, ELECTRONICS!
The cross-over between farming and computer code may be small, but its also untapped! So I hope the 4 of you enjoy this!!

I am an engineer and not a farmer but grew up on a small farm. So these kinds of videos are actually the main reason I subscribed to your channel :)

Excellent! I like to keep the videos varied, some will be very technical but that is what I like also!

Had an Arduino controlling two solar powered bilge pumps on 10acre orchard... 700k litres removed so far, climate change needs some active water table management, especially on our heavy clay! £100 compared with £££ for land drains!

Random question but are those white boxes in front of the window from Ikea? I was thinking of buying them for bolts, would they be strong enough?
@FarmTheoryNI
@FarmTheoryNI 7 месяцев назад
Yes they are!! Definitely strong enough.

Very interesting video, nice to know what we're paying for with gadgets like that. What you call simple doesn't seem to be to me.

Great device especially for contractors..very hard to know what slurry is going out.thicker slurry slower coming out or thinner slurry too fast .great invention

It's very useful. A have a version for my slurry tanker and I use it every time I spread.

Fab work you’re doing there, Would these work for umbilical too? Is the app only android or iOS too please?
@FarmTheoryNI
@FarmTheoryNI 7 месяцев назад
These are designed for an umbilical. App is android only for now, it comes with a dedicated tablet. I could make it available for iOS but have never needed to. (It could take me a week to get it working. 🤣)

Very interesting to see some of the process of your electronics building. How did you get to this point? Did you do electronics at college/uni or are you self-taught? It would make an interesting little story video on it's own from the pov of someone young looking for a side career to farming especially as everything nowadays is controlled by black boxes. The original aircraft black box is also orange. Liking the server bit so you can have a good idea how much slurry your devices are responsible for.
@FarmTheoryNI
@FarmTheoryNI 6 месяцев назад
Sure, good idea for a video! I'm self taught, lots and lots of projects. 😅

Just there at the very end you talk about the chain of data. Is it the phone that provides the gps location or do you need a gps system on the tractor? Is it possible to look at the data for a certain field say for the whole of 2023 and see how much slurry it got and what grass it grew?
@FarmTheoryNI
@FarmTheoryNI 7 месяцев назад
It's the phone for this system which would total it for a field. However these boxes also link to my GPS systems also which would give you better variable field maps.

I am a little curious why you're not using a pico-w. It has the bluetooth (+wifi ) function built-in.
@FarmTheoryNI
@FarmTheoryNI 6 месяцев назад
There was originally a reason, I think I was because the touchscreen library didn't support the Pico Bluetooth at the time.

There is a speed reading in kph on the screen. What’s that part of the unit about?
@FarmTheoryNI
@FarmTheoryNI 7 месяцев назад
You set your application rate and it tells you what speed to drive based on the flow meter.

How much would 1 of those cost to fit on a dripple bar
@FarmTheoryNI

The orange boxes arnt expensive, the flow meters are. Buy a krohne if you do buy one.

Just for fun - you might know this. The history of electronics can be traced back to 1874 when Irish scientist George Johnstone Stoney (1826-1911) suggested that electricity must be "built" out of tiny electrical charges. Twenty years later, he coined the name "electron".
