Erin, you are very talented at filming and editing. You make wiring of a solar panel interesting and artistic. If you ever wonder if we appreciate all the extra effort you put in to your videos...the answer is yes.
Nothing makes trouble shooting a panel, or machine, easier than a clean panel. 37 years as technician and I have seen the good, the bad, and the ugly. But not here. Here you have, Josh the good. Josh the dancer, the bad! (Never stop dancing 💃) And the beautiful, mis Erin! Like others are saying, your skills and attention to detail will pay off over time. You can see if in every inch of this build and every laugh from your family. Even the animals feel the love! Love and prayers to your family from mine!
Wayne, What did you think of Josh bonding the ground and Neutral together in the inverter and treating the Main service panel as a sub panel? I would have bonded the ground and Neutral together in the main panel, but not the inverter. I'm just not sure what to make of that. Thoughts?
@@gosolxsolar I'm a low voltage guy and and won't pretend to be anything more. But the service anchor for ground and neutral is on the input so I THINK it is just a preference. The way he ran it meets code for his area. That I'm pretty sure of.
Also an EE and thank you Josh for sharing your skill and thinking on this. I did understand everything you said, lol. It cant be easy to do this all on camera, and still maintain such professional standards. Kudos and thanks.
I know nothing about electricity. I have no intention of installing solar panels. So why I am watching this? My favourite YT channel and family that’s why 😁 Sending good wishes to you all.
I agree with you, Susan. I also am quite clueless, but wait eagerly for every video to drop. It is now part of my Sunday routine. The most wholesome channel on YT!
The song you played “I like to be with me when I’m with you” so reflects your relationship with each other. Keep up the good work and enjoy every moment you have together.
Older folk here... In this day and age, it's so refreshing to see younger folk with such an unwavering sense of determined "will" to succeed proper through "hard work". So many excellent life skills are demonstrated on your channel. Good on you two and your family. Cheers!
Josh I love watching you work . . .I so admire a true craftsman. Retired from an Electrical Utility . . .the outside world does not usually know the value in your skill level. More of our young people should hunger for your skill level. It’s a gift and your wife is very lucky to have you. On the other side of the coin she is such a beautiful compliment to you. Her banter and keeping you on the straight and narrow is priceless. You two are blessed beyond measure to have each other and I truly hope your kids can see what a blessing they have and learn from you both each day. How beautiful (not perfect) life can be when individuals care about the other more than themselves. Listen closely viewers and you will hear in the laughter and see in the facial expressions how much they truly care about each other. Every video I watch I always end grinning from ear to ear . . . .thank you for sharing your beautiful life with the world. 😊❤️
Can you imagine the look on his employers face when Josh said im resigning. I bet there life flashed before there eyes like what in gods name are we going to do without you Josh. NOT MUCH LOL
Love watching Josh do the electrical. You know he's adding every redundancy possible for his family. Would not want to pay someone to do all that work. Good job.👍
Seriously he takes it to 11. I've never seen an electrician try this hard. I do networking and my home setup isn't exactly beautiful because no one is ever going to see it.
@@motaman8074 haha I understand what you say. I'm an electrician from the Netherlands ( well actually I install security systems and CCTV but the basis start with electrics on school and stuff ) . And the things how they do in USA is so different then here in the Netherlands. For example we use for almost everything pvc based , so the cases and boxes and the tubes. In USA it seems that everything is from metal.. I don't understand why.. . And i can give you so many more examples but I guess you get it.
There is no one else I would watch connect wires like Josh. It’s like a dance. He is so neat and organized. Your Electrician skills have certainly paid dividends during this build. A pleasure to watch.
Great camera skills! I now get excited about installs that I have no clue about. Josh has such knowledge and can explain so well. You two are a GREAT team!!!
I am glad Josh knows what he is doing. I am not an electrician and my brain is like scrambled eggs after watching this video. Great job at explaining what you are doing though. I loved the look on Josh's face when Erin said we should have hired an electrician, it was priceless. Love watching how you two work together and the love you have for each other. Great video and am eagerly awaiting the next one.
Wow a ton a work; plus filming plus editing plus posting ... The video explains the setup of a professionally installed off-grid electrical panel very well.
As a retired electrician i admire Josh for sharing. It is slow as he said to film but what a learning path for all who watch. By the way Josh the bonded and isolated ground has confused many a folk. You nailed it.
Thanks Erin for not losing a step in Josh's work. Very interesting and mostly very informative. Thanks Josh for coping with her! Been watching every single video about your solar system. Thank you both! Great team work!
Watching an electrician work who knows what he’s doing is like watching an artist paint a picture. I’ve never been able to strip wire with lineman’s pliers!
As an Electrician in the UK I took great pleasure in watching this. I used to love building panels and running cables in like this. IT is the only time you can really show quality and pride in your work. Everything else is hidden for us. Dressing cables is all we have. Great work Josh, PS, we bond exactly the same way too with Earth to Neutral at point of entry
Thank you for taking the extra time to do these tasks in order to show us how its done. It is very much appreciated. Especially when you two wrestle and tickle each other. Love it! That's a good healthy bonding.
Hi Josh. I've been an Electrical Inspector in Canada for over 40 years. We also ground the neutral (or negative) at the service entrance and isolate it at all points downstream. BTW, you do excellent work. Love your show.
Is the inverter the service entrance? Or, is the service entrance the adjacent electric panel? I'm currently scrunching my face up trying to absorb the idea that the inverter could be thought of as the service entrance.
@@gosolxsolar The service entrance is at the first disconnecting means after the supply conductors enter the building. Is this case we have a DC service, so the negative must be connected to the ground electrode. The output of the inverter is not a service. However, it is a new and isolated system, similar to the secondary of a single phase 3-wire transformer. So the neutral must also be grounded at a single point, and isolated at all points downstream.
You can tell Josh is a real electrician, by the work his install is all level , evenly space , strapped and bonded . Very clean install your work looks great
Josh's dance moves helped, I had to take a headache tablet because it blew my mind installing your solar system! Thank goodness Josh knows what he's doin because I didn't have a bloody clue! 😁 xx
Josh! I could clearly understand every word you spoke. Now as far as understanding what you meant with the electrical jargon, I didn’t get that part, but I love watching you work out the details of your solar system. Erin, your camera work is so beautiful! Good on you both
All I can say is...you guys make a great team, when two smart people get together amazing things happen ! Thank you so much for sharing your incredible experience
You're a real electric magician Josh ! We love to watch you're family .I'm always watching with my family . We love you guy's! Greetings from Holland 🇳🇱!
After spending the last week with a solar salesman trying to get my business all I can say is be so thankful Josh is an electrician. Your explanation an quality of work is so much better! If you ever find yourself wanting a second career solar installation needs people like you. This video was ten times better than over an hour with an “expert “ who really wants to charge me a lot of money!
watching you two having fun while getting all this done is the greatest. Love the attitude of NO Shortcuts in building your Home for your family. Do it right the first time. I'll be waiting for the next installment of this channel. Chuck needs to be on site ifin he gonna be the supervisor.
Being an aircraft technician I love seeing Josh wiring up your house. I’m a huge fan of renewable energy. Even though we’ve been told our property is not suitable for solar because of all of our trees your design (panels far from the house) has inspired me to look at this option after looking at the back side of of property where we don’t venture often. So thanks for the inspiration
23:20 - Thank you Josh and Erin for documenting this process. It's really great to see what's involved and I love the entire project. It can be frustrating at times to film and work, but keep it up! It's amazing!
Love to see a man in his element, you can see the years he has put into his craft! Well done, even though you have to put up with her in the way....lol.
If you and Josh get along as well off camera as you do on, you are a great example to your kids what a marriage should be. Love to watch your family grow.
I have worked with electrician for 40 years, and from what l can see you know your stuff. We love watching you guys and always look forward for the next video
Incredible photography! Erin, you have become one of the best cameraperson I know. Once you finish the house I think you will have a great future in filmmaking
About 8:37 in the video tells it all for me. Josh wiring up his new panels, chickens in the forground. Livestock in the background. These hard working people are totally self sufficient. Think about that in these present and uncertain times. Keep it up guys. God bless you and your beautiful family. Mike in south central pa
josh this retired electrician appreciates your detailed descriptions of the work. I was only required to do bushings at 1 1/4" and no bond bushings in disconnects. thank you.
Also... Hats off to your film making tolerance while installing.... All the other electricians out there know what I'm talking about. That being said. Well done to the editor!! Great job of filming most of the important steps of the installation.!!!
I understood everything he was saying. I agree 100%. He's been an electrician for years. Did this stuff day in and day out. He makes it look easy because he has a ton of experience and obviously cared enough to be very good at his job. Trades are definitely underrated. Respect to Josh! 🍻
I feel you've done a great job filming the larger details that aren't covered in the documentation without getting caught micromanaging the viewers time. I think between this video and the documentation I feel more confident that I could undertake this type of project myself and succeed. I really appreciate all the work you both do in making sure your home and your channel are built professionally.
What's awesome are just the how the videos are edited!! You watch some lame show on tv and I think Erin does such a great job. Honestly a show like this would be refreshing as a television show. Has so many great elements of fun, family, caring, love, working together, and on and on and on. I for one always check back looking forward to the next video, both the build and after show!!
I think the company can give you tech support . If its just a few panels its a piece of cake . But what josh and irene have going on is not a few panels .
I have to add: I work at a University where all electrical installations are done to commercial standards. Your home installation certainly looks like what i would expect in a commercial application. I have watched this video multiple times and wished you could do my house over, but I know I could never afford you. I do I/T work and my I/T setup at home looks much like I would do on a commercial job too. It's a pleasure watching you work and watching your family... Blessings and with much aloha from Hawaii...
I know it is alot harder this way, but I enjoy how you actually show what you are doing and explaining why you are doing things certain ways. Keep safe,
@@sgreen9056 Its hard to say exactly. Labor rates vary, and different products may take more or less labor. I’d would use those numbers as a very rough estimate to gauge what labor for solar could cost. I can say for sure Josh’s skills as an electrician saved them several thousand minimum!
One thing is for sure you TWO are NEVER Boring LOLOL even when installing/modifying your whole electrical system. I am sitting here watching and wondering where in the heck does one begin??? LOLOL Now, if you want to talk about quilting which is what I do and some of them have been pretty tiny quilts on up to bigger ones it can be a total nightmare putting them together. I am so glad that when my home needs plumbing, electrical, etc. I just look someone up in the yellow business pages and dial a number LOLOL. So EXCITED about your solar panel update for sure what a blessing and gifts you two have. God's blessings to you all and GOOD JOB!!!
Erin, I like your prowess with the camera and editing. You do a great job. And come on, Josh, you gotta love that beautiful wife up in your face while you're working.
You guys are a big inspiration not only for A frame houses living off grid but the relationship between you two . Its really amazing , i wish i will have that kind of bond with another person one day :D Greetings from Serbia
OMG! Josh shoulder dance compilation! At 1st i was in shock! took a wile to realize, this man makes shoulder dancing look awesome! lol That was a dream come true! Thx u.
