When you cut the slot with the router, did you do it prior to cutting the oval shape so you could use the straight edge of the board? Tx again!
You can make a template, but what I did was traced the top and offset my line just over the width of the rabbiting bit. After that I used the router by hand to carefully bring the cut to my line. I left the pencil line and sanded a small taper onto the insert. Again, you can make a template for both pieces and get a perfect fit, probably in less time. Good luck
