My name is Brian and I love to surf!
I'm your average surfer who's passionate about my surfing and am always striving to learn more about surfboard design, ocean knowledge, and how to maximize the stoke out in the water. I'm an amateur board builder and love the challenge of making boards that perform in the water. It is such a humbling craft and I just love it!

I made a whole factory out of 40’ containers 25 years ago. Shaping bay, sanding room and 5 down racks for glassing with quit a few up racks to rotate glasswork. Our crew were pumping out heaps of boards with low overhead. Good to see it’s working for someone else.

Nice video thank you! Quick question though, how did you set up the air filtration system? I'm building my first surf workshop and trying to figure out the ventilation system seems to be harder than expected (Working in a basement).

Very nice board room! would love to find a low cost location to run a little board shop business in retirement. Just built an indoor shape room in my garage to start but would like to set this up near a busy two lane beach thoroughfare….thx 🤙

my automatic vac switch broke after a few months. I discovered that the shop vac hooked up to it exceeded the switch rating. Pay attention to that on your next shop build.

Such a good video, Thanks for sharing!!! I'm just trying to find some land to put a container on now ;) what size box tubing did you use for the stands?

I used 2.5" and 3" trailer hitch tubing. It is way overkill for shaping some blanks on but they slid in and out with such ease I just went with it. The container works well but is a little narrow feeling. I furred the walls to insulate mine which took up about 8-10" of valuable space. Overall I'm real happy with how it turned out. Hope you have fun building yours out. Be sure to send me some pics or a video when you finish. Everyone has their unique layout variations and I'm always looking for new ideas!

Great Build! Especially cutting and welding your own racks. Are they adjustable to different heights and lengths? Also I really like the idea you had on how to hang your sander/polishers. Can't stand unpainted peg board though, drives my eyes crazy. Any changes or updates to the bay since posting this vid?

Scott Mietz the racks are full adjustable and I also can insert glassing stands into them as well. The unpainted pegboard is a bit frustrating at times but there’s not too much of it showing with everything hanging to block the pattern. I’ve since added a vacuum system which helps a ton.

How did you ventilated the room?

Joshua Montgomery I have a turbine style vent on the roof of the storage container and side inlet vents on each side of the container. It creates a natural draft. You can see the the turbine and the side vents in the video. I had them installed before the unit was delivered.
