Building a Swing Set 

Oh you could have three adults easily. Just make sure your swings and swing hardware can support the weight. The frame, lumber, and brackets will likely not be the first point of failure. Also, make sure you anchor the legs to the ground. If multiple people get swinging together, the legs can come up.

The lag bolts come with the brackets. The eye bolts for the swings-just at Home Depot.

I didn’t dig holes, except to level the structure. Just be sure to anchor the posts to the ground.

@@brianapel8404. Proud parent of a special needs son who swings with the force a jet. Tried 15 inch anchors but still some slack (wife labels it ground shaking/boom) and skeptical of holding over the long run. Thank you so much for the response.

Not exactly sure, about 7’ maybe. I can measure. I don’t remember final cost. Couple hundred I think.

For the legs? Probably shouldn’t be an issue. For sure you want cross braces.

Went with the 10 footers. I can always lower with some more chain for the kids. They’ve hit a growth spurt.

You can. Instructions didn’t require it, as long as you anchor the posts. Just keep in mind then that the swing set will be lower to the ground and thus less fun. ;-)

I would email or call the bracket company and ask them. I suppose you could glue and screw/bolt a 2x4 to a 4x4 to effectively make a laminated 4x6... I would be careful, though, I don't know if that's as safe as a 4x6. If you do, just make sure the screws/bolts don't end up being in the same place as the swing hardware. If the bracket company has nothing you can do, I would return what you bought and look for different brackets that work with 4x4s.

Personally, yes, but the manufacturer of the brackets says 8’ legs and 10’ beam. So it’s an “at your own risk” situation…

The actual dimensions of a 4x4 are 3-½” x 3-½”, but there shouldn’t be any gap when you fit them into the brackets… they should fit pretty snug.
