An eclipse party is a must. I experienced the total eclipse in 2017 and it was magical. Just open up the resort and charge a reasonable entrance fee and people will come just to view the eclipse. It does not matter that there isn't anything else at the resort yet. Just do it

Mr. Carriker! My wife and I, and our two dogs, have been planning on Desperado for the total eclipse for some time now (I think on the second or third resort video). We have our own self-contained camper, and we just need a place to park. Also, if there was a firebox smoker, a number of briskets, mesquite logs, and 2lbs of dried pinto beans, I would be happy to donate time to smoking said briskets and slow cooking said beans to feed the masses gathered April 8th, and this cooking of meats would not be in lieu of the compensation you need for Total Eclipse camping. If my services for smoking meats are acceptable, I only ask to be allowed to arrive early on the 7th for food prep. Love what you do. Can't wait to see the resort in full swing in the coming years.

Matt, you have got to get word out about your ranch having space for people to see the eclipse. I read articles about towns and cities in Texas being worried they wont be able to accommodate all the tourists that will be around, yet you have basically infinite space for them AND free parking. You can clean house and get a ton of publicity / advertisement.

Grade out the runaway and have bush pilot fly-ins. We are always looking for fun destinations. Devise landing/tie-down fees to help with insurance and other expenses. 😊

Folks especially campers are a resourceful bunch. They'll bring their own games are enjoy the company of the other campers. Relax and enjoy all those folks having a blast at your resort! Wish I could be there for it.

Port-a-potties, and eclipse party with music and whatnot. Make it a Saturday-Monday thing? Tent camping allowed at your own risk?

Matt, the resort needs a (bon)fire pit!! All that pallet wood can be used for that (make benches or mark out the sides of the pit with usable wood, burn the non-usable). It'd be awesome for the "Night in the middle of the Day" Solar Eclipse party!

You should get the demo construction shirts in high viz orange and yellow for trades men to wear

I love those Desperado Construction CO shirts, might try and get one.. Regarding the event, some food trucks could be a great option and some portable toilets and showers.. Just for those days..

Agree with the other comments. Portable toilets and showers can provide the bare necessities. Some music and food trucks would make it a full on event. People are excited for a Desporado Ranch experience and the eclipse offers a great way to have a soft opening. We will deal with the inconveniences to see the eclipse and have bragging rights for attending the first open event. Keep up the good work. We love you!

Matt you should make a line of clothes for people in construction/industrial work. Tough, durable clothing moisturizer wicking, breathable ect

Not sure how far you want to go with it, but SmarterEveryDay released a video about a week ago about the eclipse, and in the video he & a teacher demonstrate 10 different science-y type things out in the open that you could EASILY duplicate & build to a larger scale to have fun with the eclipse on your property... would be great for families visiting & the bunker crew to experience!

$20 to park, have porta-johns and some food trucks. Music always makes things that much better

I saw a total solar eclipse in the late 70s in Oregon! It was an incredibly eerie experience to say the least! You’ll love it, Matt!

Food trucks and merch sales a must! I would suggest "pre-sales" and no entry without a ticket. Imagine how many people will come without limits.

Airbnb teepees would be a great idea for camping along the river. Would definitely bring a unique experience. Plus they look cool.

We lived in Oregon and were in the path of totality for the 2017 eclipse and moved to Texas and now also in the path of totality for the April 8th eclipse, it's such a cool thing to experience!!! Just get some porta potties and let people dry camp, would be so fun!

One thing you could do is after you sheetrock the walls you could hang the "pallet wood" from the floor up to about hip high to give the place some rustic character

If you’re going to have a solar eclipse party, best to get a bunch of sun viewing glasses to maximize the experience. Amazon has a large selection of them.

If you're not going to be using the range during the Eclipse Picnic and Concert, the berm and the railroad ties wall would be a very cool backdrop for a stage. The sound from the speakers would probably bounce off of it too.

You need to dam that river up and make a lake. You have enough rock. Yeah that shooting range area would make a great place for a band and stage. ❤

Bring some porta-potties, get some food trucks or catered BBQ for lunch, a bunch of plastic tables to eat and chill at, host and support a local band to play some music, and then do some merch raffles. It can't be too hard. All the building suppliers near me do it at least once a year. Maybe invite HeavyD and Cleetus to bring some cool toys for people to tour, like what they do at military bases and stuff. Oh, and by the way, maybe you could look at making some double-wide storage containers as nice converted somewhat temporary cabins. Obviously not in time for the solar eclipse, but just in general.

The Demolitia don't need no stinking amenities. Now I have to go order merch. And again I appreciate the sacrifices you have made for this community and can't wait to see the eclipse from the coolest place in the universe (that might be a great tagline)

you overestimate the expectations of campers. I'm going camping next week for spring break with some guys from school. Most places are shut down for winter. The one that's open has no running water and vehicles aren't allowed due to mud, so we have to carry everything in 2 miles. 10 guys are excited for this. Just advertise your land to tents and it will be fine.

I'm going to turn 40 fall next year and I'm planning on a trip to Texas (from Finland) possibly, so you better get something ready by then Matt! ;)

In the long term, as there will be kids staying with their parents I think you need to consider activities for them. Archery, paintball, airsoft and maybe even go-karting. I think you may have room to build a reasonable track. An eclipse party sounds like a great idea. Charge for parking, camping, RVs and even get mobile food trucks in and take a percentage of what they earn. As mentioned a big bonfire and music would make for a great attraction.

Don’t know if someone has mentioned it but you could use the pallet wood as a headboard for the bed, or a feature wall behind the tvs.

I kinda like the pallet wood, put a breathable barrier behind it to keep the bugs out.

You are an inspiration to many. I love the way you keep everyone involved, from camera man on down to your employees. You traet everyone with respect and treat them like family. Hats off to you. Loving this tiny house progress. Bummer plank wood couldn't stay because it already has the ranch/rustic feel but get it. You'd also have to source a lot more to finish it which is more of a pain than putting up sheet rock. Totally invested and look forward to seeing it completed.

In my area of Texas we have some awesome food trucks. I’m sure there are some in your area. Why not just use a few.

That river looks a lot healthier than last year. I'd have to talk my wife into the trip to see the eclipse. DR is only about six hours from Wichita Falls.

Make it happen Matt. Been to the Bunker about 4x now need to visit Desperado Resort! Porta Potty’s and an open ground for social / meet ups with other demolitias with some music will be perfect.

Build a stage and have a concert in the evening within walking distance of the campground using good local cover bands ❤

I think you should have a food truck festival at the resort once a week to build up hype and also get people to travel there.

You asked about ideas for restaurants and stores. Here’s something that would work great… a Vending Machine Restaurant. Videos of places that are just vending machines are available on RU-vid. Most are from Japan but pretty similar in concept. All you have to do is stock them with any kind of food you want and visitors can buy a meal and eat it there or take it back to their room, RV, or camp site. When it’s busy you can keep it stocked up, when it’s slow or closed just put the food back into storage. You can make a deal with a restaurant in town to make food and you can sell it there and advertise the restaurant too. It can run 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year if you like. All you need is a company to install it into a building on the property. You can have it built off site and transported in, making it possible to sell if you decide to sell the Resort, or you have no need for it, or just move to a new place in the resort. All you’ll need is 1-2 staff members to keep it stocked and having the ability to fix it. The building would have 3 sections, the vending machine area with sink and microwaves, the stock/storage room with fridge/freezer, and the dining area. You can also have picnic tables outside for outside dining. You can use this idea for Convenience store items too (pop and chip). Maybe even tackle for fishing. The option are almost limitless. Hope that helps. 😊👍

One thing that might be pretty cool would be to invite some camper van youtubers or youtubers with camping focused channels. They could probably help with some cool camping setups there near the river. Either way I'd love to come visit for the eclipse! I can car camp in my SUV or bring some tents and all my camping gear.

I would seal the walls with plywood or osb, and then use the palletwood to cover that

hats are like a good old pair of jeans. They are the most comfortalble about 15 minutes before they fall apart completely

Wife, 3 kids and 2 mastiffs are waiting for the desperado to open up, just let us know how to reserve a spot. We have our own generator and everything so just need a spot to park and wait for the sun to disappear.

Food Trucks, Beer Tent, Porta Potties, and sorted. I owned an Inn in South West England for the Total Eclipse in 1999. I tell you it is a surreal and spooky experience. The sun sets in the East, the birds come in to roost. Every thing goes a silvery darkness, then the dawn happens 20 minutes later with the sun rising in the West and you get a Dawn Chorus! As long as the sky is clear, you will see the 'diamond ring' as the sun comes back into view.

Since you do have the range I think you should advertise to your gun customers and those that camp and call it the “Shoot the Moon” event and then you can post it on your channel. I would totally watch that. True campers don’t need amenities, they bring them.
