Great job man. Very straightforward. That would work just fine and better than buying if you do this sort of thing all the time. I'm actually making one from an old cctv camera I found.
Now you can digitally magnify on top of the lens magnification.. youre usually able to distort the image and readjust screen resolution to compensate to a certain point where the screen resolution is reached but by then it would be issue of light rather than magnification..
Ted, thank you for good patient teaching and for good illustration of lathe work. Using a sink drain for focusing is brilliant! Also impressed with your clear understanding of magnification - that is not very common. Curious about the tube section between lens and camera chip: did you paint the tube insides with flat-black paint to reduce internal reflections?
