Every time I see someone building such a wonderful instrument with total dedication, with patience, with craftsmanship and with precision, I am completely thrilled and grateful for being able to witness it. Thank you very much, all the best for the new year and greetings from far away Germany 🤗🙏🙋♂️
That was a real treat to watch. Absolutely beautiful !! Back around 1990 I purchased a D-18 Shenandoah kit. Had it assembled for another 100 $ The gentleman doing the work then asked me if I wanted any extras ? Ended up using abalone mother of pearl for the inlays. Decided on using the big hexagon's on the fingerboard like on the 45 models. The 12th fret was solid abalone with my name engraved in it. I had a total of just under 350.00 $ When I picked it up a month later, I couldn't believe how amazing it looked and sounded !! It was a short lived relationship though. Life happens and things turned upside down and I was forced to sell it. I Kick myself to this day for that one !! I'd like to purchase another kit and put it together myself. I believe it would be very satisfying and maybe help me to get over that D -18 !!!
WOW!! Great 1st build, fine precision homemade tools/machines. Love the passion in your work. You've motivated me to start my build this year, I'll be happy if mine turned out half as good. But first go to clear the garage. Lol...
I’m not a luthier. But I could complete my first ever violin 🎻 project. Without people like you on RU-vid it wouldn’t be possible. Now I’m thinking about making a guitar 🎸. Good tutorial. ❤️💙
Whew, lots a lot of work/and looks amazing. Hand made anything, /got a friend that does hand made leather goods; always comes out full of heart and soul. lovin it!. Great vid, -Cheers
Thank you! I spent about 6 months on my first guitar. I didn't have a teacher but I learned from online luthier courses. Yes the bending machine and the gobar deck were built by myself.
Thanks so much for making this video!! It's exactly what I needed this morning as I sit in awed contemplation of my instrument, the incredible craftsmanship that goes into these is not celebrated enough!! Thank you!!
@ 4:04 eye CT. 91 clothespins? Why? U took the time two reinforce all w/ rubber band sew eye had two. Hope your finger healed ok. Just finished watching @ -25% speed, (then) ewe said "background music" is by this instrument! Superb video! No stupid humor; RU-vid video makers, this means some of U! Quality throughout handcrafted guitar instruction video. Thank you for sharing your beautiful instrument w/us. Please ignore my spelling humor, ssshhh O_O
Thanks for the nice words! Really appreciate it. Yes the rubber band enforced clothpins are applying pressure when gluing kerfed linings. I hurt my finger by using the home made drum sander and it healed well but it was a horrible experience.
a Master Craftsman Guitar Builder..But PLEASE be careful with those sleeves ..I know u understand the dangers .just thought I'd remind ..Beautiful instrument ..
I know this is an older video but this was awesome to watch. What are those long white (maybe fiberglass) pieces you used to hold the reinforcements in glacé while the glue dried?
Thanks Kyle! Since this was my first build (and I'm new to woodworking), I spent bigger % of $ on buying tools. The material of the guitar itself was actually cheaper, roughly less than $300 if i think about it now.
Go for it Ankit! It was a lot of fun building a guitar! I always want to build a koa guitar. Koa is expensive so I will leave it later when I'm better at it.
There is shop near my apartment, they made atleast 2-3 per day, never seen them to give so much time and dedication to a single guitar, They randomly made them and sell, but this, this is with love, I know the difference cause I have seen them both. The ons who will have that guitar will never regret.
Gorgeous, thanks for sharing this. Two questions: how many hours did you invest? What previous craft, skills, or experience allowed you to achieve such good quality on your first attempt?
Perhaps I,m wrong.... but taking a look at guys in retention camps and political restraint around the world who have nearly nothing for tools , none of the perfection assuring braces and forms we use , and the fact that their product appears very similar... and sounds pretty close tells me where the real skills are to be seen. No offence to this guy.... I just finished watching a refugee build a beautiful thing with nothing.... thats where I see real talent.
lovely build - a little to quick for my taste, to see any of the actual work... BUT: I love all those fixtures... like the clamping down one with the rods... genius.
"Gobar deck" is the name. It's a simple device so I made it myself with plywoods and steel threaded rods. The white rods are 3/8 fiber glass round rods. You can buy from online luthier suppliers like LMI and stewmac. Thank you for watching my video, David!
how to fix a sunken soundhole which warped the top of the guitar all the way till the f cut? will adding blocks of wood as support columns help to push back up the sunken soundhole? or a straight longitudinal beam that'll push between tail and heel blocks relieve the tension? please guide thanks!
Thank you! That's a heating blanket I found from AliExpress. The exact item I bought is not available anymore. It is similar to this: a.aliexpress.com/_mKI4Kh7 hope it helps.
Wow!! I am trying to learn guitar building and I am blown away by your resourcefulness and what you produced with simple, low-cost tools. The clarity and sonic perfection of your instrument make me so inspired to get back into my shop and learn to use my CNC machine and other tools!! Thank you!! I would LOVE to see a slower/normal speed version of this video!!
Good idea. I sometimes image when I became old and moved to a small apartment with my wife and I can't afford the places that power tools take (and the noises they make), I would do the hobby with only hand tools. No need to seek for efficiency because I got plenty of time to spare 😀
this rapid mode of the video has a negative result. It made me dizzy very soon. Why? Why dont you play the video in the normal speed. I had to abandon it ...
la rapidez del video no deja apreciar los detalles de como se hace la obra. parece algo de la isla de la fantasia. le sugiero que grabes un video en tiempo real...
@@SmiTTyy-sh8nc I would have more fun building my own acoustics and learning a new skill. I just swapped out the saddle, nut, bridge pins with all bone and threw on some new strings on my japanese lawsuit guitar. I'd imagine I would have to save quite a bit to get all the tools necessary.
@@madmusicianmagician I hear ya man !! I bet it sounded like a new one after your tune up. I have an old Washburn that I've been trying to get dialed in now for a while. I've almost got it where it needs to be. The truss rod was frozen and it had a pretty bad outward bow going on. Got it freed up and in the process of fine tuning her. I guess a guy wouldn't need all the modern equipment but it's just going to take a lot longer to get there. But yeah, I'm definitely going to build one myself. Take care man 👍
