In the future if you make your sign one color and then put a few coats of lacquer on it you can then carve your letters/numbers and then paint and the mess will usually just wipe off (as long as you wipe it while its still wet). We have a cnc router that we make two tone signs on and this is our preferred method of painting this. Great job on the sign!

Love those interlocking stencils. Seems the only work I do is to keep Momma happy. Today I'm building a catwalk from her laundry room to a cabinet in the garage where the litter box will be relocated. Those cats (and my children) get all the love that used to be reserved for me ;(

One trick that I learned making a project for my daughter was that if you have a socket large enough to fit your hooks at a diagonal, an impact driver will speed the process. With only 4 to do on your project, it probably wouldn't have saved you much time but I was doing about 30 of them. Great video. Thanks.

By making it hollow it also allows for a small light to be wired down if necessary,illuminating the numbers.great design!

I have seen a number of your videos and as a novice woodworker I watch a number of other folks like mathias Wendell, izzy swan, the woodpecker and the other cast of the woodworking community. After watching a number (ok a large number) of videos it seems a lot of the same things are being done. so I especially enjoyed this one since I hadn't seen anyone do one as yet. maybe I just didn't really look but .... be that as it may. I enjoyed it and thanks for a new project. keep it up

Glad you enjoy it. : ) However, I don't think the only reason other channels do vlogs is to increase their revenue. I think a large part of their audiences enjoy getting a more in-depth view into their weekly activity and the creator enjoys connecting in that way. I don't do it because of the time commitment, but I do enjoy doing it on my Instagram through the Stories feature.

Nicely done. Just a suggestion for signs in the future. Paint the letters first. You can be sloppy with the paint, then run the whole thing through a planer(use a very light pass if you have small inner pieces of letters or numbers) to remove all the paint that's not in the letters. Then, take a paint roller with a very thin knap and almost dry roll it on(get rid of any excess paint from the roller first) and you don't have to come back to touch it up as much.

April - great job on the post. I would suggest that you and your parents look into adding an additional sign that meets retro-reflective standards. I'm willing to guess this is not required by your jurisdiction but it makes it easier for Emergency Services to find the location, especially at night.

Hey April! New to your channel but I'm loving your videos. Just one suggestion for your followers...if you're doing this project for your folks and especially if they live rural, please consider phosphorescent paint for the numbers. Much easier for us Paramedics to spot in the middle of the night. I can't tell you how much it decreases response times! Keep up the good work April!

I'm glad someone caught that. How about a computer NIC card.......network interface card card. That was around y2k when I took network classes in HS and college and I'm not sure if the abbreviation is used much as consumer computers have network interfaces built in now.

Rockler also has a layout program for that kit to get the spacing right it is awesome I have it as well. Also paint the numbers first, I usually spray paint the numbers first and then use a little touch up roller ( by Shur I think) it’s almost like an ink roller but you can paint the flat part of the sign and it won’t bleed into the numbers or letters, you just need to do thin coats :) looks great April !
