Hurricane ties become less fun after putting in a thousand and going up and down a ladder/ moving it ever minute, having to deal with a hose, a positive placement gun and posi nails (which will bounce off if it hits in the wrong place so you have to wear safety glasses and keep your mouth closed), trying to get into the space with the gun to nail the clip (harder en it sounds), wall obstructions (aka not being able to get in x spot because a wall is in your way or a literal trash pile), etc. I know because I put too freaking many on for 3 days straight once. I cut my hand, fell of a ladder, and my body was torn up afterwards. Let's hope I don't have to go through that again, but with my job as an apprentice I never know. :)

coulda been raining... idk id say that's the worst. me and my guys work in the rain if possible, we keep 3 ez up canopies and tarps and set em all up the day we start the job... only thing getting wet is us.. 😝

2:10 ish.. the ledger board over the brick.. the brick has obviously subsided at the right corner.. see the repairs on the facade... Will the deck be leveled to a spirit level or to the building lines?

I have found that if you lay your joist hangers first.. your chewing up alot more wood making the tops level for treck decking.. remember.. every joist hanger is the same size.. but not ever board is the same length or thickness.. having the top level is so important with treks because its so bendable, you'll feel your dips n bumps. Specially when you roll a ball lol

Good thing you got the footers done BEFORE the rain. Trying to bore holes in wet dirt is fucking hell. The bore keeps getting stuck and shit. I know from experience 😅

Can you please give us some advice? We had a deck built just 3 days ago on the south side of the home with lots of sun. It has yet to be stained & today we noticed that a lot of the boards and 2x4 railing tops are cracking and some floor boards are cupping!!! We are in disbelief this would happen in 3 days. The wood is pressure treated pine from Home Depot. Is it the installation? The wood? That it’s on the south side and had intense sun for 3 days? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hey, Im not an expert so maybe reach out to "Doctor Decks" Jason is awesome! But pressure treated lumber will always shrink and inherently crack, its just part of the process. I do believe a lot of people let their pressure treated lumber sit for a bit before using it to allow this to happen before assembly. Hope this helps

Next time make sure the grain of the decking crowns down. The ends should look more like a frown than a smile. It helps control the inevitable cupping. And the cracks are part of using pt lumber. Staining/sealing should be done after a min of 6 weeks to up to 12 on shaded decks.
