Yes Rob, 'outstanding' is the right word. If I had the time then I would have maybe just wood routed some 22 - 25mm mdf to wood slot depth and kept it flat and then left it at that but with you, and with all this intricate woodwork, there is so much more in terms of creative elan and, quite literally, a whole third dimension to this project. 🔨📏📐🏁🏁🏁
Thank you for sharing this masterclass Rob ...if i did this, there would be lots of shouting and flying tools 😅 ile definitely be saving this one to my playlists ...and also sharing it 🤗
Awesome!!! Thinking of building a single track myself. Maybe not quite the work of art this one is . But I’ve always wanted a rally type course. Great work Rob!!
Great video again Rob. Just wondering why you use 6mm and add the joiners rather than a thicker piece of MDF and not need the joiners. They seem like a weak point.
They are a weak point if you use the board like a table. But during modelling when you are lugging the baseboards all over the place on your own, the lightness of 6mm really helps. The boards can be stiffened at any point with longer joiners screwed and glued ether side of the track under the 'grass'. But like you say, if you don't mind the weight and extra cost of the thicker baseboards, you can make them from 9 or 12mm depending on slot depth (7-9mm). Once the whole thing is made and finished, the thinner boards don't matter, so why have them thicker and heavier than needed (unless you want to stand on the track). Also having the slots open means you can't get any bits falling and getting stuck in the bottom of the slot.
