Stuck in life's fast lane? Have you tried cabin therapy?
I am no Henry David Thoreau. Not sure about the two years alone in the woods thing...but a place where we can get away from it all? Yes, please!
Wouldn't an off-grid mountain cabin be great? A place where we can enjoy winter activities, wildlife, access to miles of trails, and amazing views! A mountain stream and huckleberries?!

I love it when sons are on the worksite. It shows them good work ethic! I wish I had my son all through my cabin build 😩 Great work!
@tinycabinpnw
@tinycabinpnw Год назад
Thanks! It is a great way to model a solid work ethic. Early on as a parent and DIYer I thought that my kids would need to be at a certain age before they could learn from anything I was building. I’ve now seen that they do pick up more than you think and it’s worth spending the time to include them in the project.
@kaipaioutdoors

@tinycabinpnw Absolutely 💯 they pick up more than we realize and they are very good imitators.

That’s really cool! It’s impressive that you also included your son in the build too. I want to build a fishing cabin myself. I’m a little intimidated because of my lack of experience. What’s the best way to ease into cabin building? Just go for it? Read some books beforehand?
@tinycabinpnw
@tinycabinpnw Год назад
I completely understand the intimidation. I've been there myself. Going forward I'm going to try to do a better job on this channel of going through all the steps in more detail to help anyone who wants to follow along. Very Nicely done, sir. Is that going to be a full time homestead or a weekender? I'm still digesting zoning codes etc.
@tinycabinpnw
@tinycabinpnw 11 месяцев назад
For now it will primarily be a weekender, but I want to set it up so we could live in it full time during the fall and summer. Winter would be a bit more challenging to live full time because of the snow depth.

Unfortunately, all the lots in the area I built have all been sold. I've seen many cabin builders mention they used landwatch.com to find their properties. I basically stumbled into finding our lots through a friend of a friend. Here are some videos describing how some of my favorite cabin builders found properties: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-CZCBuqwquIY.htmlsi=yLiO2Ak2J3q1WkQs ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-R3D5sY8WPOo.htmlsi=aM3QE6anJsSueCha

@tinycabinpnw

I will have a wood stove in there but winter snuck up on me before I could get it to the cabin. Unfortunately it will be late May before I can get in there with a vehicle. Here’s a video on finding my stove: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-K8ukr77Yeu0.html

what size, square ft is your cabin, 16x20 ?? what pitch is roof? thanks for your video. lookin good
@tinycabinpnw
@tinycabinpnw Год назад
Thanks for the kind words. It’s 12x20 and the roof is 10:12 pitch. Those dimensions allowed me to use full 4x8 sheeting in several areas. That pitch allow me to use 12’ roof sheeting without cutting

no proper vent? moisture issues down the road
@tinycabinpnw
@tinycabinpnw Год назад
Yes, venting is a challenge with this design. It was a tradeoff between maximizing R value and adding a bit of venting above the insulation. This one of the reasons I went with Rockwool insulation in the ceiling. If condensation does occur, the Rockwool does allow drying to occur back to the interior without degrading thermal performance.
@chrisclark2017
@chrisclark2017 Год назад
i would rather have lower r value with ventilation. moisture will ruin the building. that is going to sweat.
